"come follow my lead, be who i wanna see" is max telling nugget to follow along rather than deviate from what they're used to the "voices" are just the people who decided to aethos-ify him for the mod and by extension, max design pro cuz now he's canon in the mdp lore!! the "swipe up and down" part refers to youtube comment sections and shorts, both people who love or hate him. the ones "lurking in the background" refer to anonymous trolls or others hiding behind a persona or avatar the "many eyes" are, of course, viewers of max design pro. also a slight reference to sturm's lyrics. he wants nugget to be the "pawn they hope you'll be" and be "constantly exploited" so they continue to make the same type of content. the "till you've been fatigued" refers to just overusing a trend before it becomes stale "we've just stayed content right at each other's sides" is a double meaning. ofc they're happy to be with each other (atleast until now) but i use "content" in the sense of youtube content. brainrot or slop, if you will "brought to life by my design but who's to say it's my design both puppet and puppeteer" refers to max design pro, the youtube channel, bringing max the monkey, the character, to life. since both the channel and character are referred to as "Max" i wanted to bring into question how much of him is the character or the creator. that's the point between the "both puppet and puppeteer" line he also questions if it's his designs as, of course, a lot of the mdp content takes stuff from trends like minecraft or the amazing digital circus. could max really say these are HIS designs? him saying the strings that hold him are soothing show how he's willing to be a "puppet" for this world, while the strings for nugget could leave a bruise because he's unwilling and fighting back, being harmed in the process even if the situations that happen to them in the max design pro series are artificially made in order to entertain people, max knows that their love isn't. the "they say ignorance is bliss" part is supposed to be max convincing nugget to stay ignorant of anything beyond their world. he'd rather them hide in the comfort of what he's made rather than expand to whatever else is out there, he tells him to "fall back down to earth" to get him to stop thinking of anything beyond what they perceive as "earth" (i'm not actually sure if the mdp lore takes place on earth. i mean there's talking animals and chicken nuggets so unless this is a sonic situation there's a good chance it isn't. but i think "earth" can just refer to the ground in general soooo he's just telling him to be realistic lol) he still truly loves nugget, so he wants to show him everything he's worth. max believes that he's the only one that can do that, therefore anything other than him would be "lesser" the "some minds hide from cruel truths" part extends on this idea, wanting to find comfort in something familiar than face these cruel truths and fears. he tells nugget that he can find comfort in him, but nugget refuses to because he sees things as they are. the "won't you say how proud you are of me" is a silly billy reference. i think that was pretty obvious. "setting him free" obviously doesn't mean what nugget believes freedom would be. but to max, he views this world he lives in as freedom. the "so why would you reject me? reject what i've built for us?" is also meant to question how much of Max is the creator of the show, or the main character. it implies he built the world for them, but also outright stating nugget "rejected" him in the sense of a love confession. obviously this isnt true because nugget still loves him, but that's how max's viewing his response. "you're all that i have left" is max truly believing nugget is his only option. despite the friends and family he could turn to, he can only see a future where nugget is around with him i didn't write the "time is ticking" lyrics so this is just my interpretation. if dr. fox sees this and wants to correct anything then feel free to. "time is ticking make a choice dont start dreaming" is max telling nugget to either press the "help" button or not. ofc he has a limited amount of time to click it so he has to stop "dreaming" "i need you, i heal to your love" further shows max's dependency on nugget "but the silence of your voice keeps me freezing" probably refers to how nugget doesn't speak during this part in the song. but also i thought it fit perfectly here cuz i didn't write any lyrics for nugget in this cover. "i beg you, i bleed to the lack of you" also just re-inforces max's dependency on nugget. "bleeding" or otherwise being harmed by the absence of nugget probably aint healthy and ofc i didnt write the "after all of the wasted years" lyrics. those are pretty self explanatory "your rejection stings" is a reference to lumora opalite's english cover of sad girl s*x with the first line "your rejection stings". i thought it'd fit and also i thought it would be hilarious to reference that song out of anything else. "yet promises so empty make me doubt you" is max's false perception breaking, just for a little bit. he believes nugget isn't intentionally running from him, just scared and confused. but now he's beginning to doubt if he's right or not. but only for a little bit! the rest of the lines are just him telling nugget that they can never be separated, no matter what happens. he just says it in a way that sounds kinda ominous!!!! "darkened clouds" and "rain" are usually used negatively and conjure up a sad image in most cases. and to the audience and nugget, it probably does. but of course, sometimes rain can be used for something positve, and for max, he's viewing it as a form of relief, clearing away his doubts and worries. though it still reminds him of horrible things, he still sees the beauty in others. unfortunately now's not really the good time to do that, as his messed up perception ruins what he considers to be "beautiful" also the "all the horrible things / beautiful things" line is another reference to "any terrible things reminding that we're falling back to us" line from sturm's lyrics. when i originally wrote these lyrics for the kasane teto cover, i just decided to use sturm's lyrics at the end as i hadn't written any lyrics after the "all i need is you" part. i wanted to write my own lyrics for this cover, but i left that reference in but tweaked it to be more original. i also switched the order of the "horrible" or "beautiful" things for the different endings. in the bad ending, he focuses on the negative things in his life before looking forward to a better future in the good ending, he focuses on the positive things in his life he already had, but that was soured by what he did to nugget which he can't "take back" i was originally gonna write "til the glue runs dry" but i changed it to "let the blood run dry". the blood is meant to act as a glue "combining" them together, calling back to the "then we can finally be one" line from the official lyrics. the rest, where he says their souls, minds, and hearts will join into one extends on this. "the division between fact and fiction are blinded to me" is max admitting he's wrong. he's finally realizing that maybe not everything is going the way he wants or expects it to be. also im pretty sure it'd be grammatically correct to be "is blinded to me" and not "are blinded to me" but like whateverrrrrrr he's lost and confused in the world ("all of the pressure" had broke him, left him to find his own meaning) and wanted to find solace in nugget, believing he was the only option. problem is, he did it in a really weird way!!! but now he's realizing he didn't make the "right move". he gets cut off when he says "I just wanted to-" because... well.. tbh i didn't really have any idea what to put there. BUT I DO HAVE A REASON WHY I KEPT IT LIKE THAT! There's so many things that he'd want to tell nugget. maybe it's too hard to put into words. way too many words to fit the lyrics. i also like to think that they're still somewhat following a script, but in the good ending he's breaking the script. he can't break it completely though, he still has to stay within the same melody (except for me changing the bad ending lyrics to have more notes at the "i've fallen victim to" and "we'll see will push us through" lines but think of that as him having a lot of fun with the role) so he gets cut off instead of the rain reminding him of pain, it's the stars. both from the sky, but one of them has a sadder connotation while the other is more... not necessarily happy. just sort of mystical or mysterious. which matches the more melancholy vibe of the good ending's lyrics where he has his regrets his actions have hurt nugget and though he never wanted it to happen, simply apologizing couldn't make up for what he did. but thankfully nugget chooses to forgive him and then its the good ending yippeee!!!!!! i have not watched a single max design pro short except for the ones with references to twiddlefinger, and even then i haven't watched those in forever. so sorry if there's anything here that doesn't completely match up with the lore!
