Been following your channel for years, back when you used to vlog your family stuff before you started covering amateur radio stuff. Its been cool to see you get into this and get a lot of followers. I also do amateur radio so that worked out great. Kudos.
Josh, at 50:27 you asked about what people use the memo pad for if they use it regularly. I use it while hunting parks or special event stations when more than one is on the air at a time and there are pile ups. If I don’t get through then I can flip through the others quickly to try a different one and then come back around once they call QRZ and I can try again.
I just got a 705 and try to learn how to get on D-Star but I have a headache by the 20th minute mark of this video and by the 30th minute mark I was ready to pay someone to come my house and setup the darn thing for me... Whoever designed D-Star must be a sadistic person who didn't want any newbie to sign up for the system. It can not be more complicated and need more steps to accomplish a process where you can hit a button and talk to a mic will be the end result after all these hoopla... Please count how many steps needed to accomplish this... While watching this video all I learned is that the system is so complicated that even befuddles an expert who's trying to teach the system...
D Star downloads, instead of removing SD Card can you download directly to the SD Card while in the radio if you have your radio connected to a computer? Also I continue to get an error page when selecting a location by zip code.
By the way, the download from that website no longerr works it appears. The box where you choose your radio never comes up now. Tried from 4 different browsers.

I am able to have qso's, but I am not able to unlink, on either radio...m also my messages always come back "RPT?" even though I'm connected. I made a short video best explaining my problem. Could you please take a look at this and see if you have any insight? Thank you!

Hi Josh, any chance of a 705 comparision to a X5105? The 705 is nice but not everyone can afford it and the X5105 is half the price, but they do have different features for mobile QRP. Also, which is the best on RX for weak signals when DX'ing? I have not seen a hands on comparision between these radios as yet.

@@HamRadioCrashCourse sorry, somehow i missed that on that video, also missed at the cs from icom at the top of the programm Windows you can select and display at all freg the split settings. Thanks and sorry for misunderstandng
The programming using the icom software was a bit confusing compared with other radios. When I enter a group of repeaters, I can find them, but not put them in the radio to use. You are doing that the long way, get to the icom software.
Unfortunately, Icom doesnt like Hawaii, and the Near Repeater list doesnt work here. You arent even able to lookup any repeaters in Hawaii in the 705. I guess Japan still holds a grudge over Pearl Harbor or something, lol
It does not seem to show any under standable looks more to a chating thing than how to do the headline or how to program a 705 only talk about what comes in on live CHAT not impressed
Whatcha gonna do when the cell phone service and the internet goes out ?? How will you then be able to keep in contact with friends and family during a crisis such as a hurricane , tornado , heaven forbid a magnitude 7.5 or greater earthquake , or a massive volcanic eruption ? The only way will be by radio be it a CB radio or by a ham radio . I have seen an increase in people looking to get into the amature radio service for these possible happenings .

My public safety is VHF and UHF, will the IC-705 scan these frequencies? What is the Aprox scan rate ?

You likely need to upadte the repeater list.
Strangely it has no repeaters or data base loaded, my last icom had a database loaded

Doesn't Support odd-split memories, it helps to store that kind of memories to work sattelite

Why do you program the PL tone to the downlink frequency instead of the uplink? When you pressed PTT the TONE indicator turned off.
The process is the same on the uplink click a/b. It was net intentional. 👍
