The city of Yokosuka is located on the eastern side of the Miura Peninsula at the entrance to Tokyo Bay. From the Meiji restoration until 1945 it was home to the largest base of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Today it is the location of the US Seventh Fleet's main base as well as a major portion of the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force's fleet. Yamaguchi Momoe grew up in Yokosuka.
