If I am not wrong, the dance shows how the day goes. Morning - light violet ballerinas, then Noon - yellow ballerinas, Twilight - purple ballerinas and then Night - ballerina with black dress and Moon - ballet dancer with the white costume!
So pretty, really like the choreo and mainly, that they did it (the costumes and all) like a real show!
I like your interpretation. In credits at the end of the full video: ua-cam.com/video/5ryRHXCskTM/v-deo.html this clip is from they only say "morning", "day", "night" and soloists, but it's possible they didn't go into full details in credits. What you say makes sense.
Well at the end is the dance of the hours, but I think that the ballerina and the ballet dancer are the sun and the moon 🌚 🌞 look at the costume of him has sunlights.
This is the best classical ballet academy in the world. It can't be any other way.
@@user-jh7pm7wi9n I know that, I am not a ballet novice. Still, all the aspects of the performance are amazing.
iirc, it's dawn, day, twilight then night. I remember dancing as day (in yellow) when i was a really young student decades ago.
I'll never understand why cameramen / directors / editors or whomever think people watching dance videos want interesting and artsy camera-angles every 10 seconds instead of, y'know, clear uniterrupted shots of the dancers.
To think that this ballet was danced by students and not professionals speaks volumes about this illustrious Russian ballet school standards.
They are professionals.. Vaganova is the best Ballett school with bolshoi in the world and they have strict hard exams every year that they have to pass to proceed with the next year or they are out
They are the best of the best
Whenever I watch videos like this I wish I had never stopped doing ballet when I was younger :(
Start up again, you'd be amazed how many more re-starters you'll find!
This is the most relatable thing I’ve ever read
Same, makes me wish I would’ve stuck around to complete grade 7 and 8 😢
I had that to! Its never to late trust me, i stopped but picked it up again and im doing so good i already can go on pointe so you can do that to!!
You can always start. I started ballet when I was 14, I’m 16 now and it’s very fun. If you stretch everyday and work on the things you’re not that good at, you’ll start seeing a difference in technique. It’s the passion that makes a wonderful dancer, so please start ballet again.
Finally! I’ve always wanted to see this danced for real, not the comedy version that Disney did in 1940. Whoever choreographed this, really did justice to the music. It deserves to be seen on more mixed bills by more companies.
Yes, absolutely!
My first exposure to this music was watching “Fantasia” ( which is a wonderful movie IMO), so while these dancers were beautiful to watch, I couldn’t help seeing the hippo, alligators, elephants, and ostriches (and this is my favorite scene from the movie❤).

And yet the Disney animators had clearly seen a performance of this ballet in action to animate it as they did, it makes it even more impressive that they managed to translate these motions onto animals.
It was choreographed by Vaganova Academy's rector Nikolai Tsiskaridze who used to be a premier dancer at Bolshoi
These costumes are so pretty!
This dance is so beautiful, and I think it's amazing that these girls are just students! After I saw this video I asked my ballet teacher if she would teach us this for repertoire, and she said she might actually do it once we are back to in-person school instead of online. I'm so excited!
Eep
Gorgeous costumes. Gorgeous dancers. Gorgeous music. Oh the gorgeousness of Russian ballet.
Oh, yes!
Will never be surpassed. Bravo!
'Gorgeous' must be the ideal description, coming from whence it so obviously does!
That was absolutely gorgeous, every single one of them are so very talented, I really enjoyed this!!
The neat, tidy, light, graceful elegance of the Vaganova style!
lets just take a moment and appreciate how beautiful the costumes are! the head piece is so gorgeous I can't--- the dancers look so light in them too...
I was privileged enough to go to school here (1989) and absolutely loved the experience. This is such a fine example of incredible training; the discipline and culture is second-to-none and why, year upon year, countless graduates are of such a high standard.
On another note, has anyone noticed how the clock above the door shows a different time in consecutive camera shots? 🤔 Congratulations to the editor 😂. This does not change the outstanding quality, only demonstrates the School’s incredible sense of pride in what is released.
THE DRESSES OMFG
Absolutely extraordinary! And I'd never seen Dance of the Hours (danced to) before. It's completely new to me. Just perfect, beautifully executed.
there is a film with Rex Harrison (from the 1960s?) where the actor appears to dance this piece
Thank you Nikolai Tsiskaridze for bringing so much beauty to this world. And wishing Yuval Cohen all the success at Philadelphia Ballet where he is now a dancer.
Classical ballet belongs to Russia. The music may have been composed by an Italian but they dance to it like no one else. Culture in Russia is part of their soul
Okay can we take a second to talk about those costumes?
Nikolai Tsiskaridze's a great teacher👏👏👏 - - and all of his students had learnt a lot under his excellent tutelage - - and still do. I ❤️ love watching this show. Thank you for sharing.
He also choreographed this ballet. He was and still is my favorite dancer
Oh goodness, this performance is unbelievably beautiful. I got chills even seeing how delicately lovely their costumes were! This is a magnificent performance, and I can only wonder how it looked on stage 🥰🥰🥰
I haven't seen any comments applauding these dancers for what is plain to see: THE IMMACULATE SPATIAL AWARENESS. 🔎 Look closely: that is some 30-40 dancers in a small box of a studio, fully extending their legs and arms with dancers just centimeters away on each side. One wrong angle and there is the force of a pointe shoe in a dancer's (now broken) nose! ▶️ Look closely again, how neatly they are arranged, how they keep the spacing. If two dancers are slightly too close, always one of them will correct the spacing. Look for those moments, because it is there that the geometric beauty is being carefully, carefully safeguarded. ⬜ 🌌 🔴
I'm not going to cryyyyy😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 ugh I swear these costumes are so hypnotic!!!!!
I am a huge fan of Russian/Petipa/Vaganova style my whole life! Such incredible artistry and stage presence even in kids
A beautiful reconstruction of this ballet in all the senses: technique, artistic interpretation, musicality. Bravo to Nicolai Tsiskaridze and all the teachers of the Vaganova school
My toes hurt that's an inhuman number of bourées. You do t have to be well known to be a superstar these girls are better than I've ever seen in person. Doing it right!
I have so much respect for each of these beautiful talented dancers I’m clapping my hands off here , amazing bravo !! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️❤️❤️
Just breathtakingly beautiful and very inspiring.
I've watched this video so many times and i JUST now noticed that there are 24 dancers, and their headpieces list out the hours of the day corresponding to their time in Roman numerals. Duh.
This is absolutely stunning how beautiful and talented they are!! I hope to be like this later in my ballet years!!
Magic! I keep watching and loving this performance of yours at least, once a week! A border of perfection, indeed! From all I've seen of The Dance of the Hours, this is the most remarkable one! My best congrats to all of you! From the northeast of Brazil, a capital called Recife (reefs)! 👏🥇👏🥇👏
All so gorgeous from the costumes to the performing.
Well done!!!
Beautiful...so exquisitely danced...such delicate lightness in their steps...took years of training! 👏BRAVO!
What a beautiful job! It is so nice to have close up views of these exquisite dancers in action. Art and athleticism at its finest 💖
Simply divine, wonderful and perfect.
Congratulations to all of you. I loved.
THIS COSTUMES ARE BREATHTAKING! 😍😍😍
No questions Russian ballet! Is the best in the world 🌎! Talented 👍 teachers dedicated young dancers bravo 👏 !
So many people forget that ballet grew out of the opera. I’m a retired professional ballet dancer and it amazes me how many people in my own former profession forget how the origins of our art form are in the opera house. This ballet was part of an incredible for act opera, called LA GIACONDA. And to this very day all of the most legendary European companies are still attached to their original opera houses, for example La Scala, Paris opera, the Royal ballet , Deutsch opera on du Rhine, Vienna Opera ballet, ect. That’s why this piece is so important because it reminds us of where we came from.
That was positively devine! My congratulations to everyone, dancers, teachers, costumers, musicians. I was absolutely enchanted.
Grazia , eleganza , leggerezza , femminilità = Danza Classica Femminile !
I loved the music, the girls dancing they all looked beautiful, the surprise guy dancing, adorable, the whole thing was great! 👍😃
Well, they certainly give certain famous ostriches, hippos and alligators a run for their money ! Truly gorgeous ballet, wonderful dancers and lovely costumes.
😆👍
Dance of the Hours (Italian: Danza delle ore) is a short ballet and is the act 3 finale of the opera “La Gioconda”composed by Amilcare Ponchielli. It depicts the hours of the day through solo and ensemble dances. The opera was first performed in 1876 and was revised in 1880.
All Prima-ready! Brings me great memories of my dancing many years ago - dress rehearsals and practice, practice, practice! And finally the main performance at the Academy of Music! Great memories; beautiful dancers!
Absolutely GORGEOUS! I think Ponchielli would have loved this...
I thoroughly enjoyed this, it was beautiful. I’ve had this song stuck in my head for days, with no idea what it was or where I heard it, and of course not having any words, it was very difficult to find, so bless you all for posting this.
That being said where I heard it before was the original Disney Fantasia movie the sequence with the dancing hippos and alligators which then made me realize that what I actually wanted to listen to was the carnival of the animals by camille saint-saëns from Disney’s Fantasia 2000 with the flamingo with a yo-yo
so you know it’s been a good night filled with beautiful music and imagery!
FYI - there is a small mistake in the title. The Dance of the Hours music is from opera La Gioconda by Ponchielli, not ballet La Gioconda (there is no such ballet). In the opera, the ballet is performed during he scene at the doge palace in Venice where the opera takes place. There are different choreographies, basically every theater uses its own choreography, but here Tsiskaridze used and maybe modified Petipa choreography, apparently from the 1883 production of the opera. I am not sure if Tsiskaridze recreated it based on sketches or if Mariinsky used it before. At any rate, it's beautiful, I like this choreography more than any other I've seen.
They were excellent! Highly synchronized and on beat with the music And the COSTUMES 😮 lovely 😊
Beautiful dancing. Please change the title, though. It's Dance of the Hours from OPERA La Gioconda. There is no such ballet. There is a ballet scene inside this opera.
The imcredible lightness of being inspired by Ponchielli magic creative talent . BLESS HIM !
An absolute delight to watch! Beautiful ballerinas.
I just realised that their tiaras have the Roman numerals of the hours on them that's so smart.
Bravo 👏 beautiful ❤️ performance these students are very good indeed the choreography is fantastic! 🙏 Thanks posting it UA-cam!
Marvellous. Thank you, you are talented princesses. And one prince.

Oh how I miss going to the theater. This damn Covid! Lovely performance!
Wellcome to Russia. Moscow theatres are working on 25% oh the usuall load, because of the necessary distance between the audience. But they are working!!!!
@@user-yr8un5lm9k I live in US, but I love ballet. That's how most places are around the world. The U.S is so bad right now. Nothing like a theatre is open.
@@lgladigan87 I am very sorry. Hold on! Covid will go away sooner or later!!!!
@@lgladigan87 I live in the US, but I grew up in Russia. The US theaters cannot survive with 25% attendance, they don't get money from the government as Russian theaters do. At the same time, the flip side of Russian theaters being open is that there are covid cases there and at any given time, many performers at Mariinsky and Bolshoi are in quarantine. The musical director and principal conductor of Mikhailovsky theater died from covid a month or so ago. He was only 56. It's just sad either way, terrible dilemma - open theaters and have potential spread or have performers at home not making a living and dancers' losing their form. I read it was pretty bad for the VBA class that graduated this year. They didn't have a graduation performance, they auditioned for theaters later after having spent some part of the last year at home, and those who weren't hired by major Russian theaters didn't have an opportunity to audition abroad.
What joy at youthful drive and skills, such beauty and smooth artistic balance and movement.., these young and quite beautiful dancers have the natural urge and drive to improve, succeed, display and enjoy the marvellous balletic art. It was very worthy of high praise for such loving and lovely work.
A GREAT PERFORMANCE BY STUDENTS, EVEN BETTER THAN PROFESSIONAL DANCERS ON STAGE !
THIS VIDEO WAS SUPER MADE, GREAT IN SOUND AND IMAGE QUALITY !
Absolutely stunning. I really could watch these all day long
Beautiful in every aspect ❤
bravo !!! it is an absolute pleasure to watch such harmony !
Is it just me, or is this something to watch day after day?
Rest of the world: How beautiful, the ballet truly is a divine art form.

Esthetically beautiful in every way: costumes, choreography & synchronicity- amazing!

Well done, although they are still students, but already high professionals! Beautiful flowers of the Russian land, Bravo!
Still can’t get over how much that floor rakes. Bonkers.
Delightful performance, and such a treat to see so close up and in good lighting. Wish I could have been on the balcony.
What a beautiful dance, this is one of my favorite videos on UA-cam.I t is amazing how all of the heads are at the exact same angle, and the music is so enchanting, not to mention the beautiful costumes and the roman numerals on their crows that say what hour they represent. It seems that the are all wearing the same model of pointe shoes, is this true? Bravo! 👏🩰it
That was absolutely stunning, bravo!!! That has really brightened up my morning.
Thank you so much for sharing it!
I have heard the musuc so many times but never seen it performed. The costumes were gorgeous, hats off to the wardrobe department.

The music is from the Dance of the Hours from opera (not ballet) La Gioconda. It's part of the act that takes place in the Doge's Palace where the Doge presents a ballet to entertain his guests. It was used in Disney's Fantasia. In terms of choreography, as I've recently found out, this is Tsiskaridze's reconstruction/changes of Petipa choreography for a performance in 1883 in St Petersburg. This choreography is often used in Mariinsky. There are other choreographies of this ballet, and many theaters create their own.
woooowwww the music the costumes the choreography the sPARKLES
Bravissimo! Captivating, near flawless synchronicity, a visual and artistic feast on all levels. I was carried away to the doge's palace where the masked ball was underway, Laura having already been ordered to poison herself for her infidelity with Enzo, the prince in disguise. Her evil husband orders the special ballet begin, foreshadowing Alvise's intentions. (Ed. Yes, I'm referring to the opera production featuring Placido Domingo, Eva Marton and Kurt Rydl, innovatively choreographed by Gerlinde Dill.) Of course, it took me back to Fantasia as well. (I hope some extra credits were dispensed.) Encore!
They’re so beautiful. Ok all the haters going to hate me. Am I the only one who had the words “Hello mother, hello father, here I am at camp grenada” suddenly going through their head?
Marge, is Lisa at Camp Granada?
No, no, that's one of the reasons I clicked on it. The first time I heard "Camp Grenada", I noticed how delicate and gorgeous the music was. This choreography is perfect for it.

I can't help but see Ostrich and Hippos when I hear this song, thanks to Fantasia. But I was still very entertained. Lovely costumes and beautifully danced!

Stunning
Beautiful!
Breathtaking music and great talent dancers. Thanks for sharing this videos!
I’ve always loved the music. All the dancers are exceptional..such beautiful port de bras and pointe work. Loved this! Thank you for sharing.
