Low power and high agility yea but then you got things like the gr 86 or brz for about $400 difference at msrp and and about equal the price at 30k each used same year and all the one thing I see the only thing I see the Miata has over a used boxter cayman or a newly used 86 or brz would be it’s convertible. now don’t get me wrong I’m not saying I don’t like the Miata I’m just saying it’s illogical to me when you have better options specially when you’re thinking of buying a new Mx-5 when you have older more iconic 98 and older Mx-5 for 15k or less especially if you’re thinking of the modding scene. I’ve even found independent sellers that’s sell their Miata’s for 2-5k so a newer Mx-5 doesn’t make sense to me

@@mondragonmsaul308 @mondragonmsaul308 As someone who has an NA and NB Miata, I get your point. However, the trouble with the GR86/FRS is the boxer engine. The miata has never needed improved oil baffling due to oil starvation while cornering. Unless you're pushing over 400hp, it's not needed. The GR86, however, will have a void warranty if the engine dies due to oil starvation, caused by a track day. This is despite the marketing about it being a track-ready vehicle. For this reason, the miata is more desirable than a GR86. I don't know if I would even autocross in a stock FRS/BRZ/GR86. True, this can be fixed with aftermarket parts. However, add the multi-piece head assembly, the weak head gaskets, the requirement to remove the cams to pull both heads, the hassle of a quad-cam on a 4cyl engine, AND the requirement to disconnect the pistons from the rods just to pull the engine apart. The comparison is a model of simplicity to an over complicated mess. I pulled the head on my NB with the turbo manifold and intake still attached. The camshafts were left in place as well. All the extra complexity on the boxer engine just to create a better center of gravity. The two are not even close in terms of upkeep. I see NA and NB miatas everywhere I turn. It is insanely rare to see a 90s or early 2000s WRX on the road today. That MSRP difference is just a bribe.
      Cheers.

I 100% agree on that the miata/mx5 fomula should never change. Back in the 90's there were so many small sporty compact cars. All of them with exception to the miata, got fat, cramped with electronics and tech and lost what they were about. Lightweight and simple.

Modern people are so thick 😂 The Miata (mx-5 here in Europe) is simple, driver - not tech - focused...pure unadulterated fun....perfect for its purpose. It plugs a gap in the market that was created when a large number of small affordable European convertible sports cars ceased production, such as the Triumph Spitfire or Fiat 124 Spider. Modern consumers just don't get that, this little Mazda is spot-on, it took that formula into the 21st century and hasn't looked back ❤️ Never change to suit people's opinions, Jinba ittai! 👍

The only thing I would change is a lightweight hybrid turbocharger. NOT a huge power build, a Hybrid K03 or K04 and some weight reduction to keep the balance.
There is nothing wrong with the current model to be clear, except for the heavy safety equipment requirements. Thats no fault of Mazda. If you want a bigger car, then you just dont get it.
Something that has changed is how powerful all cars are for the era. The miata has to compete with the BRZ/86, so I think between 200-300hp is the target, but keep the base model as another trim level.
Before you keep demanding power, try driving a balanced car. You will even go down in power to have that feeling. (From a higher HP car to a lower balanced car)

I dont understand the hate that this car gets. Its a perfect representation of Mazda ethos with zoom-zoom and simplicity. Im biased since it is my dream car and own a 2019 RF, but no one can deny its fun factor escpecially at the price its at.
Power seems to be the only number people care for anymore and the enthusiasts today have gone towards stat-sheet clout and forgetting the experience a car gives to the driver. Power definitely has a place because a car that can shove your body through your seat is definitely an exhilirating experience, but its only one of many things you experience in driving.
I will forever love this car and have never stopped smiling while whipping it around town.
It has its negatives though that im learning through forums and ownership, some of which (the glass transmission) are continuous problems that I still cant wrap my head around why Mazda did it, especially when they had a perfectly good one on the NC. Or cheaping out on an A/C pipe that cracks at around 40k miles (mines cracked). And even the use of electric steering instead of hydraulic for the feel. But overall its a wonderful car that i wouldnt trade for anything (unless its a more expensive car so i can sell those for more miatas haha)

In fact I hardly ever hear this hate that people keep ranting about “people saying this and that”
Where? No more than when people complained about the NB, and then the NC, and now this.
Truth is, years down the line, people are gonna cherish these things, and after all the other cars I’ve had the pleasure to drive, this is the one that puts the biggest smile on my face, even after owning a couple other miatas, I don’t plan on changing cars unless super desperate measures at this point, I don’t want to part with it.

The MX-5/Miata is a pretty much “perfect” car. From the Original (I had a “British Racing Green” 1989 Japanese Import version) to the current model, it’s SUPPOSED to be small, lightweight, low power, relatively simple and FUN!
It was built to replace cars like the MG B, Triumph Spitfire and Fiat Spider - small, low power, light weight, simple, fun cars - and has consistently been the best of its kind since 1989.
They’re not as cheap as they used to be, RRP is around £30k but dealerships often have them for around £24k and you can haggle them down a little.
The nearest thing you can get to an MX-5 in 2024 is probably a BMW 2 Series, and you’d be lucky to get one for less than £37k in a dealership! Beyond that, the next closest things are cars like the Alpine A110, Jaguar F Type and Porsche 718 Cayman/Boxster which are £50k-£70k depending on spec etc.

The ND has a tighter interior than the NC. Additionally, I preferred the dual exhaust on the NC. ND exterior is fantastic, but personally I think the NC is still better.

Asking to turn a Miata into a bigger vehicle is like asking Harley Davidson to turn their bikes into a midsize sedan.
You miss the point of the vehicle entirely hahaha

I love the simplicity and size of the miata and dont want it to change but i do wish i fit in it better. Im 6'1" which isnt too crazy tall but i fit in the NC better than the ND. The RF was even worse and that made me sad because i genuinely wanted one.

All i want is more power, Toggleable TCS, ABS, an AC and a good paddle shift trans.
I love technology, but i want car software to be idiot-proof in its simplicity. I want an interior with actual buttons so i can use my AC or radio without having to look at a screen.
I don't need my car to be a smartphone and a VBOX, i don't need a GPS. I just need miata to go Zoom.

I don’t know about the leg room in the new model but I think that Mazda should make a sister car to the Miata for us tall folks. So far my only option is the Abarth (???), Honda S2k, and if you have a death wish the spicy Miata aka the Viper, but they don’t carry the same charm as the Miata. It doesn’t have to be a carbon copy of the Miata (except longer) just needs to have the vibe of it if that makes sense

Just a little more power, maybe via hybrid, little less body roll, little more functional storage.
The flyin Miata / Sarasota super sport v8 Mazda ($75k) only adds 500lb but add LS3 engine, steering, LSD, brakes.

It's a great car, not a lot of tech, cheap ass interior but lightweight, and just enough power to make it fun, just like the first model since 1990. The problem is when they want to charge you 35K - 40K. Yes, it may not sound crazily expensive, but it makes the car stay in the middle of a [Civic SI, GR86] and [Mustang GT, Civic Type R, WRX STI]. User picks are usually from the bottom or the top of the list. Sadly car brands don't give a fuck about story or emblematic models, and if sales are going down, the model will eventually disappear 😢

Nope, I've never owned a Miata but i fee you that you are correct. The Miata is built by drivers for driver for a reason . Dony change it . I used to feel the same about an F-150 (because of it own strengths) but now you can go to the lot and buy a $90,000 F-150, pretty much every manufacturer is doing this So yeah don't do that Miata... please.
