“Debuting at Winterland in San Francisco on February 22, 1974, less than three months before the Reno show, Ship Of Fools was one Jerry's two mellower-tempo'd songs on Mars Hotel along with China Doll. It was a mainstay of Grateful Dead setlists from its debut right through 1995, although it was only played a half dozen times in 1994 and 1995 combined.” -David Lemieux

I remember back in the late 80s my dad would drop me off at 15 years old to see the Dead. During intermission I would look for the yellow balloons and hang with sober people for the break. It took many more years for me to get my shit straight but I still got my memories ✌️

I wish I could’ve seen 70’s shows. I didn’t get to see shows until the 80’s. This is one of my favorite years. I am partial to 73’ though.

What a memory! I was a student at UNR and watched the show from the lawn at the football stadium. They brought the same Wall of Sound speakers from the Winterland show that I traveled to see, not knowing they were coming to Reno

Given the stories I have read about the wind at this show, I expected the sound quality to be dreadful and the playing to be weak. But, at least with this track, that assumption is proven wrong. I'm excited to add this expanded set to my collection.
Piano is a little distorted on this particular track, but what a great performance. So very dynamic.
