The look on your face when the GS9 got a hookup and you first hear that ratchet going off your face lit up. Was a simple and special moment, best part of the vid
I started doing service on my GS-9 today. I also have a Daiwa 7000x. I still love taking these old reels out surf fishing here on the Outer Banks. My newer reels are smoother, but these reels are built like tanks and never fail.
That looked like a fun session Alan. Must be Victorian thing, boating etiquette doesn't exist down there, not too bad in SE QLD. Beautiful specimen the gummy shark, I heard they're good eating. The old ree looks and sounds awesome. Good to watch Alan.
@@fishingmad for sure, not long till some bigger autumn reds will be cruising around as well 🤙 I'm still after a real big one out if the yak haha but I probably need to start fishing some different zones other than the local that are just usually around the metre mark.
Yeah I was really suprised last autumn and winter fishing west port the quality snapper you get in colder conditions, was really amazing. Next month should be great there between elephants, gummies and snapper, especially on the kayak which i need to dedicate some time to over there. BTW well done on the recent epic catches !! Some really great stuff.
Thanks Anthony, ill be putting together a very detailed workshop in our members area in the coming weeks specifically on targeting gummy sharks, landbase is very much about understanding the tides and having a good assortment of fresh baits
Awesome video Alan 👌🏼 My dad used to use GS-9’s for surf fishing. He still uses the same two surf rods from over 30 years ago. Now He has them paired up with two Okuma 6000 size reels, can’t remember the name though but they are around 20 years old
My old man has some Penn International 2 game reels I've been trying to get him to sell, older than me but still can pull huge gamefish. If he ever does sell them I'll let you know 😅 That old Daiwa sounds so awesome though hahaha love it!!
Yeah the old GS9 was bloody epic. Yeah if you ever have vintage stuff in good nick let us know, i know a few like Darren who love their vintage stuff. Must admit I was super impressed too
Fun fact i purchased a diawa gs-9 from turnbulls in 1975 and it cost me half my fortnights pay around $50 or so, and 1 month later i got a silver series 7 but cannot remember how much it cost but it was a little cheaper.
Hey Alan, I am currently at western port and seeking for gummy’s. I just watch this vid and wondering if there is a waypoint for this spot that your at?
Hi Blake. Yes there are marks for that spot un the members area. I'm just off the grid filming today so very poor coverage. If you email me at alan@fishingmad.com.au I'll reply with some specifics and get you in the right area.
Yes, im all over it. Its a very sad situation. The volume of fish floating is so sad. I know many who visit there weekly to walk and fish and this will have devastating long term effects. So sad to hear of this news and hope someone is held responsible and that they invest back into the area.
Hello again Alan. Hope yo don't mind my contacting you on this site which is no 10 months ago. I was watching a podcast of yours last night on whiting fishing, and I think you caught some flatties as well. You were referring to a stinger hook which you purchased from some site or other. Can you kindly advise where you bought them from please as I would not mind getting some myself. I am just setting up all my rods to go fishing in the next couple of weeks. Your advice will be very appreciated. Thank you.
Hi Angus, I did a video specifically on this a few months ago. You can see it here ua-cam.com/video/flPqbfnnMsY/v-deo.html it details what they are and where I get them. Cheers
Nice seeing the older reels still holding up! Had to re-wind and watch some catches again! Thanks for your efforts!
Thanks David, yeah the sound and feel of that old GS9 was something pretty special.
That was like watching a movie mate. Loved it. Thanks for making that old reel famous.

well done mate !!!!
Thank you !!
Good work mate
Thanks 👍
Great video. Greetings from the Motor City.
Keen to see your new vid mate
Thanks, I hope you enjoyed it
Gs9 was a great reel to own back in the day’ I’d say back then would’ve been 1 of the best daiwa made
I have four of these reels now.
I still use it well for carp fishing.
the best reel
Thats amazing !!
U guys showed have picked up the blue ring to show all the viewers.. :D
I agree Darren should have done this

Thanks John, yeah boating etiquette in Vic is almost non existent at times. The old GS9 reel was awesome, glad you enjoyed it !!
Well Done Alan! Keep up the good work :D
Thanks, will do!! 100%
Yes another one🎣🔥
Thanks Leo !!
Not just Melbornistan, like that everywhere.
Great video mate. Next time you should bring the yak over for the gummy mission 👌🤙
100% would love too, we will have to arrange a catch-up very soon. Getting a big gummy on the yak is on my to do list very soon.

Great video!!
What kind of line did the GS9 have?
Thanks !! I Honestly cant remember what line is on there. We usually use thing slike Shimano Kairiki or owner Kizuna.

Wow thats amazing, imagine what its worth now.
Personally I’d love to see what you can pull out of Cairn Curran in Central Vic
yeah that would be great, between the massive carp and odd cod down there
Great vid, can you please do one on how you dress the shark for the table ?
Will do, going to be targeting gummies heavily over the next month
Because there was a fire and the thome from a fire hos it flowed into cherry lake and they were netting the fish today.
Can you do carp fishing at ardeer koriot creek one day please and I want to meet you and show around the creek. There are carp red fin and eels.
Sounds like a good idea. A mate of mine lives in ardeer and catches them all the time in koriot creek which is just behind his house
I would probably know your friend
Solid video as always great job
By the way do you have any good land based fishing spots around Melbourne
Thank you, checkout the FishingMad website I have documented almost 200 landbased locations and how to fish them. Almost my lifes work.
Hey Alan just wondering what go pro settings you use?
20k coming up yeewwww
THANK YOU, its been a slog but were very slowly getting there.

Nice video I’ll have to take my kids and wife down that way. They’ll love catching the Easier to handle gummies
Initially, I thought "Darren's boat, no Darren", best I ask where he is....
Hey Alan love ur vids, keep up the great work!😁 btw first
Thanks !!! And well done on being first
Do you burley for gummy’s here?
Nah it seems to bring in more pest species like banjos. We use oily baits like mackarel, salmon etc and gummies have a great sense of smell
Hi I went to cherry lake today and all the carp were dead just letting you know so you don't go fishing there thx
