I watched this with my gran back in 1989. She was from Birmingham UK and survived the war, she was in her 30s duringthe war, and gave birth to my mum in 1943. My grandfather was a grenadier guard.

One of my favorite movies of all time ! , after "Bad day at Black Rock" and " The day the Earth stood still.
I love this movie. I remember watching it alot in the late 1980's and 1990's I just brought the DVD a couple years ago. Thanks for posting this video. We had some good movies in the 20th Century.
This. Was. Such. A. Good. Movie. Visiting my grandma from England always brought back memories of this movie. It took me forever to find it again-had to google it.
Empire of the Sun yes, I have a 9 year old boy. I was 8 when these movies came out & they were my fav. Ordered both DVDs & we watched Empire of the Sun a couple wks ago. Can't wait for him to see this one, just ordered it ✌🏻 New Orleans bred here 💜
Roille He said that because their school had just been destroyed by a stray bomb from a German Luftwaffe plane. I’m sure that this was every child’s dream come true in those days!
Both are appropriated emblems that have come to broadcast one's allegiance to tyrannous Western regimes, who wage imperial wars and persecute Semitic-based religions.
Im 25, watched this as a kid, the german pilot guy landing with the parachute always stuck with me, that guy was so cool, probably pulled out his lucky cigarette
I watched it yesterday on TCM, it's great, that's why I'm here. First time I've ever seen it. There are other postings of the entire film online, I may watch it again.
Isn't this the movie where they are fishing for hours and catch nothing but then a bombers drops a bomb in the river beside them and stuns dozens of fish?
This isn't the fault of the original trailer. It's probably the mixing job done by either UA-cam or Movieclips. Go here for proof: ua-cam.com/video/CYlxzf7b0wo/v-deo.html
It's a crying shame the Luftwaffe didn't fly over England, to Scotland & drop it on a certain Mr & Mrs Blair. Had they done so, 1,000s of Iraqi women & children would still be alive today & Britain might still be Great
Have you apologized to the Germans yet, told them how really sorry you are? Don't you wish England/Britain had lost both World War I and World War II - kept the empire and kept England, London looking like a place where decent English/British people could live? Don't you wish German occupation troops still patrolled London England with Panzer tanks? Don't you wish ZERO English girls were raped by Asian Muslim gangs in Rotherham England and no English teenagers were slaughtered at some pop music concert in Manchester England? So English - have you apologized to the Germans yet - told them how really sorry you are?
You do know why your government is allowing so many backward-ass thinking terrorists, right? Panicking people will gladly exchange their rights for "safety". Exactly like how people are willingly exchanging privacy for convenience. a.k.a. Cell phones/Amazon Echo/etc (i.e tracking and monitoring devices).
This movie made me wish I was back in that time in England despite the Blitz.
This is still one of my favorite movies.
One of my favorite British movies of the 80s.

This film resonated with me because he lived on an estate called Eden Park. I lived in a place with the same name when I was young…
Classic.
England looked better as a war zone than it does today.
and it was full of.......ummmm.......English people :-)

@@redcardinalistYou don’t remember do you? When were you born, in the 1990s?

I saw it when I was 19 & I loved it. This, Local Hero & Empire of the Sun were 3 of my favorite 80s films.

A true classic, and so very British with a lot of humor some subtle and some not so subtle....a grand time to watch
Watched this film again last night on DVD so atmospheric tight script and wonderful acting.
I adored Sarah Miles as an actress. Absolutely mesmerising
great movie. last scene always makes me smile. happy children
Why did he said "thank you adolf" can you explain me ? ( i am french and i'be difficulties to understand all what they said )
Roille He said that because their school had just been destroyed by a stray bomb from a German Luftwaffe plane. I’m sure that this was every child’s dream come true in those days!
First saw this when I was 10, loved it then too. Excellent film.
i have so many memories from this movie
I was shocked to see my old primary school (Queen's Manor) at 2:38.
Probably filmed this during the holidays.
I'm confused, how does the poppy equate to the swastika?

Brilliant film ...
I remember this being on at the cinema. I would've been about 9. Really underrated movie. I had a thing for Pauline.
one of the best

Looks charming, you've convince me to watch it tonight on TCM.

I was right. It was very well done and a great mix of humor and drama.
Love this film......

tonymasons Indeed it is!
The set looks amazing
A very poorly made trailer for a great film. Can't even hear the dialogue over the loud music.
This isn't the fault of the original trailer. It's probably the mixing job done by either UA-cam or Movieclips. Go here for proof: ua-cam.com/video/CYlxzf7b0wo/v-deo.html
You might want to get your ears tested? Although the music is loud, I could hear the dialogue fine....
I agree, and It's NOT my system or my ears, I watch stuff here every day with rarely an issue.
Great movie, just wish the trailer was in HD
Music wasn't near as loud during the war.
Brilliant.
I think you hit it grandpa...
Great movie.
I love this film
oh please god not on us, drop it on mrs evans shes a cow!! XD best part

Long ago there were horrible trailers made for amazing movies. Today amazing trailers are made for horrible movies.
Doesn't really help when they show the only good parts of the film in said trailer.
Grand Father was just like mine, but Irish.
Something tells me there was supposed to be narration.
Probably the most appauling trailer I've ever seen. Film was a gem, but that was shite.
They showed TOO much in my opinion. music was too loud too.
My only complaint in this film was the sister, who was supposedly 15, looking so old for her age.
Grass on the field....
its on the wicket, lets play cricket...not field, you donkey
I don't think she looks too old but the actress Sami Davis was 22/23 when they filmed.
Would they allow this film to be made today? BBC don't even think patriotic songs should be played anymore.
They'll remake it in 20 years and all the main characters will be muslim.
Was the plan for the music to completely drown out the dialogue?
lincolnlobster They were trolling
סרט מקסים.
That kid with the bullet is evil man
360 is NOT HD. It's not even full SD (which is 480) Great film though, PLEASE someone react to it
This movie is not streaming anywhere.
It's on Amazon in the UK.
