Notice Kraus, at almost 70, he sounds like a 25 year-old one. And he still can cover them in his upper registry. Not to forget that he still had high notes at that age. This is what I call performance.
If kraus was around 70 in this video, he was struggling with his final stage of pancreatic cancer. He didn't sound horrible at all. In fact his technique was still intact.
Five stars for this cultivated and soulful rendering of the sextett plus choir. Alfredo at the age of 75 is just a miracle. Florence would have deserved more popular attention in her career. Sopranos have it a lot easier, unfortunately.
This is great! Kraus was very old here allready, but still nice colour of the voice, some tremolo, but nice. Florence is superb! She's mezzo, but here you'd say she's soprano.
You know, this is a voice which is as good as it is and fell through people's fingers! She is an INCREDIBLE MEZZO-SOPRANO!!! And sometimes, she makes us think she is a soprano by the way she can hang around in the upper register like this does!
@@TedinNY She's singing high, which is the point of a Soprano. Composers deliberately composed music so that, when the orchestra and chorus kicked in the soprano (or sometimes a mezzo) would soar above everyone else.
@@alleviation91 There is some truth in what you say. However, if you listen to other renderings of this septet, you'll hear the other singers. In most of her high lying phrases, the tenor sings right along with her and you'll hear him. In several other parts you'll hear the others, including Dapertutto, sing important phrases. There's also another mezzo, singing lower. In other words, this is a septet. We're supposed to hear all seven. Otherwise, what's the point? In this particular case, only one of the soloists is able to penetrate the chorus and orchestra.
Quivar is just great!!! what a pity for the entire world of art to not have more recordings of her
It's a shame that Quivar is as underrated as she is. The diva can sing!!!!
This is excellent! Best performance I've seeing of this sextet so far. Sound quality is really good too!
Quivar is awesome... she is a humble gentle star in the opera world
I love this so much!!! Alfredo Kraus is still so great.
One of my favorites from one of my favorite operas..........thanks for posting this.
Kraus Grandísimo, excelso. Divino.

Like 25??? 25 years corpse! Come on, he sounds horrible.

Ms. Quivar, I've just got one thing to say: YOU.BETTA.SANG!
Love Alfredo!!! Everyone's great here, thanks for posting.
Kraus was in excellent form until he died. A great example for those singers of today...
Quivar is AWESOME!!!! Too bad there was not more of her on this CD at the Met.
Espectacular!!!! Gracias.
Thanks, that was magnificent!

But performed ..for Kraus...so effortlessly. Perhaps there was a bit of emotion that crept into his voice?..
Why people insist on doing versions without this septet amazes me.

excellently magnificent!
What the Giulietta in this does here is outstanding. I am in awe and love her voice.
You are right.
When the chorus comes in Florence Quivar is, basically, the only soloist one can hear...
I mean, not to take anything away from her, but that’s kind of the point of a soprano.
@@alleviation91 She's a Mezzo. 😃

it depends on which version
Lovely singing..very poor camera work though..
I think it might be recorded from direct..off a screen of the television broadcast...
Can't touch the Sutherland versiin
Eine Offenbarung :)
Kraus never sounded good, but here he sounds that bad that it seems it's done on purpose. And why is Quivar singing the soprano role? Odd.
Pyaso.
