3.5" SATA HDD 12V USB Adapter how to tutorial
NOTE: 12V/2A center positive polarity power adapter (Power Adapter ) is necessarily required if 3.5" SATA HDD is connected.
Important thing to note here is that firstly disc must be connected to the laptop via usb then power has to be connected to the adapter as has been shown in this video. If you connect power to the adapter firstly & then connect the disc to computer, it won't be detected. That's what happened with me at least. I hope it helps anyone who has trouble in connecting the drive via adapter
Tried this but still not detected
Any other way?
@@isaackamando8484 Nops. That's how it worked in my case. I firstly connected the drive to adapter by usb cable. Then i connected the power cable to the adapter. It has been working like that for me since the start.
& it works in reverse order for sata disc drive i.e firstly I have to connect power to the adapter & then I have to connect the adapter to the pc via usb.
@@mayanksingh12 thanks lemme try that
@@isaackamando8484 Did that work for you?
Thank you for the note in the video's header about center positive pin polarity. The 12V/2A specs I found everywhere; but no one bothered to mention the pin polarity...which is just as important.
Looks easy enough. Now to hope that the hard drive on our old family iMac G5 that hasn't booted up for about twelve years that's still in our closet isn't completely dead for this not to work. Thanks for the video
Great simple to the point demonstration 👍
Pop goes the capacitor in power supply, up comes the laptop, but how do I get to my files. Oh I forgot I bought a couple of these things for an upgrade which didn't work, but thanks to your vid I was able to get the drive up and running. However I needed to have an sata to usb that had a 12v 1.5/2a adapter and it needed both usb cables on the Y that was attached.
Can use on PC without power supply like adapter in this video?
Brilliant genius now i wonder why ididnt think of just buying it and i thought here we have some guy with atleast some original thinking to find something of his own!! Booyah.
THANK YOU finally someone has the cable that I need!
I know Im kinda randomly asking but do anyone know a good site to watch new tv shows online?
I recently salvaged a HDD from an old AT&T cable box but when I plug it into the SATA 3 adaptor nothing happens. The drive does not power up nor is it detected by my computer. What can I do to get this drive to turn on?
Thanks for the video!
Would the hdd need some cooling like fan ?
Hi thanks for the video. My laptop only has a USB 2 port. Will this adaptor still work? I see that the adaptor has a blue USB cable is a USB type 3?
sir what is the second usb port
i have sata 500 gb drive but its points of usb port tears
solve this please
Ok I did this but the disk is still not spinning or showing up. What should I try next? :(
Sir if I didn't mount the drive, can I access it ?
what if the hdd have partition and windows 10 installed, can i connect it to laptop usb and access the files ??
The 3rd pin connecter on the hdd what is that?
Mines doesn't appear on the laptop drive list....and on create partition drive letter it says letter D but no media
What do I do??
Sir you connect usb SATA with laptop charger?
is it posssible to connect this to a HDD which requires 5V at 1A
Can i use a 12v 5a power supply?
Classic 👌 and helpful
If you have a desktop computer laying around, you can get power from that as well.
Thats what i was thinking
no. not enough power
@@rigidhammer7376 if you have an old desktop computer laying around, you can plug it into the wall then plug your hard drive into the power wires coming out of the computer tower. That will power up your old hard drive, so you can plug it into the USB of your laptop to view it. USB alone,is not enough.
My Seagate Barracuda is not Detected in my MAC.. IT says connected drive not readable.. Can someone help ??
Does this mean I could buy a Seagate IronWolf 10TB 3.5, and this adapter, and connect it to my MacBook and use it as an external hard drive?

Can I use it for 3.5 HDD ?
I've tryed this many times I have many adapters external harddrivr docks two of them and even tho sometimes I hear thst it's acknowledging it's connected it doesn't show up when I hit my computer or when I go to look at my disks etc what other method could I use to gain access to the data

How many volts does that adapter have?
But unable to get that adapter
Let me guess the adapter doesn't come with the power supply right?
I have an old hard drive from a windows vista desktop computer. Will this method help me retrieve certain files that I need? Thank you.
Yes, it should
I have a 3.5 inch hd. by mistake I bought a SATA-USB cable for 2.5 inch hd (without a port to connect it to 12V cable). Is there a work-around to my problem?
Return the cable, you still have a week to do it.
And no, there is no work around
Did you just use your laptop power adapter?
hi, i connect my 12v adapter to my hard but nothing happend wehn i plug in usb to laptop
the board getting hot but no sound hearing
the problem from my hard or something else?

So you need to buy another cale for power ??
Yes, another power cable is needed unless you already have one with the same power
Why not an external PSU?
thank you
hello i already have the cables but its not showing up in my laptop. what can i do??
Did you managed to solve the issue with an adapter , and is it an ac or dc adapter ?
@@baselterkawi4758 Hello, yes! the adapter i'm using is a dc adapter. The converter i purchased was different compared to the video. it has two male plugs. What i did first was plug one on my laptop, and then used a dc adapter but that didn't work. It only worked when i plugged the other one to an outlet. So basically one plug on my laptop, one on the outlet, and then the dc adapter. Maybe it just didn't have enough energy that's why it needed the other plug to go to an outlet. hope it helps!
Gracias
Hi, i have a problem , my sata hdd is spinning but not reading...ny idea?
Did you fix the issue, I have the same one and the hdd is giving pepping noises
can i use the HDD formy laptop just like normal cuz i have like no space in my laptop left and i dont wanna open my laptop and add a better ssd or sum i just need to be able to connect the external HDD to have 1 extra TB
If extra space is all you need, then use an external HDD and move / offload some data from onboard disk to the external drive. That way the laptop will be faster as well due to more available onboard disk space in internal HDD. This video is mostly useful for people who had their laptop dead and need to extract the data by mounting it as a master slave connection to another device.
@@timepoet but i dont have any money to buy a whole new external HDD cuz i already have a HDD from my old PC and i dont wanna be spending 100 euros for something wich i could do for 15 eurod
@@dabebyconvertible in that case, if you are okay to use the adapters you can convert this HDD from old PC into an external hard drive as a make shift purpose. But be mindful that these drives are designed to be screwed on to a PC. So unlike a portable external drive, it will be less agile although gets the job done.
Um, I bought cable for ebay but no power cord, did I get ripped off, harddrive never comes up for me??
So I found 12V to 1.5 A cable power cord that fits into the hole. Doesn't seem to work, does it HAVE to be 2A???? Wish people told me this before buying hardrive.
Can the same connector be used for laptop hdd? Will it work?
Yes , connectors same for SSD / 2.5" / 3.5" HDD .And for SSD and 2.5" HDD - no additional power supply needed.
Thank u
thanks
Cool and all but don't move the drive when it's spinning you could break it that way, you literlly flipped it just after pluging it
What power adaptor did you plug in to the back of the UGreen connector? Was that your laptop power supply?
yes. but you can use any 12V adaptor if you already have it
@@timepoet can you use a 24v adaptor
need to reformat the HDD? because i remove it from old desktop OR just plug in and use?
If you use different OS than maybe yes. You will see pop up to format if your PC cant read it. If you had the same OS on both PCs or both PCs support that format you probably wont need to. Look in web for advantages or diadvantages of each format.

YOUR VIDEO IS ABOUT USB 3.0 ADAPTER. For USB 2.0 adapter the only12 V power is not enough, YOU NEED TWO POWERS FOR OLD PC AND NOTEBOOKS^ 12V AND 5V. First you connect USB adapter to HDD, then plug 5V to small USB, then plug 12V, then plug fat USB cable into PC
What do you mean then plug 5v to small USB?

12V/2A center positive polarity power adapter (Power Adapter ) is necessarily required if 3.5" SATA HDD is connected.
Op thanks
Can I use the same thing for my other 2.5" hard drive?
Nope because 3.5 using 12v but 2.5 using only 5v
Yes , 2.5" doesn't need external power
What is the name of the adaptor
12V/2A center positive polarity power adapter (Power Adapter ) is necessarily required if 3.5" SATA HDD is connected.
Thanks for the video! Will a 12V, 2A adapter do the job?
2A is plenty of current for MOST HDDs, and probably all SSDs

you'll fry the circuit, you must have the 12v power adapter
Yeah. I fried mine. I had a 12v lead acid battery between them, for backup. But the battery connection was loose and the circuit inside the adaptor is gone
