2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter & TRD Pro: Going Farther vs Going Faster
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 вер 2024
- While first drives of the all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma hit a few weeks back, notably absent were two of the most exciting models in the lineup. That changes today.
Sort of…
This 4th gen Taco sees the return of the TRD Pro along with a new Trailhunter model focused on overlanding. When this truck first debuted a few months back, it had a lot of people asking: which version is going to be the halo truck? We went to find out.
So we headed out to the beautiful, rugged terrains of southern Utah, and enlisted the help of 8-time Pro-4 champion, C.J. Greaves! It was high-speed desert pre-running versus long-distance overlanding. Using C.J.’s expertise, we show you the difference between going faster with the TRD Pro and going farther with the Trailhunter, along with some handy techniques along the way!

This guy has a really good way of reviewing. I like his reviews. He looks like a cool dude too.
He races pro-4s in the championship off-road short course series check it out
Before I bought my 2023 ZR2, I really looked at the Hunter. I think that mid truck is all I was looking for, but it hadn't come out yet. I needed a vehicle at that time. I am not one to hate on Toyota. But I must admit this ZR2 is amazing. I am the only one of my friends that doesn't have an import, and I still get to where they go. But man...that Trail Hunter....that is was the Trail Boss should have been. Nice vid!
I'm surprised the transmission hasn't took a shit
I own an FJ Cruiser, and love (Japanese) Yotas, but that ZR2 (in any segment, really) is amazing! I just wish they had moved to a 5 link, really woulda helped.
I do think Toyota missed a bit by not also at least optioning a metal front bumper. Then the TH w/could absolutely go head-to-head against the ZR2 Bison!
I am so stoked to own a Trailhunter. Cool video, I hope the views pick up. 4:57 is something I have VERY much wanted to hear, thank you for that!
Is the seating position improved from the last generation ?
@@richardmarino2732 Yes
I can’t wait to get my new Tacoma!
The TRD Pro is a ripper! Holy smokes man!
But too expensive for me, if I had the money I'd buy one.
Yeah better than the sport Jon 😂
I kid I kid
Great demonstration video! Will probably wait 1-2 years until the hype and price gouging comes down.
Beautiful trucks
Beautiful Tacos! Way out of my price range.
Stoked for my TRD Pro soon! 🙏
These new Tacoma's are more "Recreation Vehicle's" than pickups that have achieved Supertruck status,.. and price. They certainly bring out the "Toy" in Toyota. Nice demonstration and driving. 👍
the 2024 tacoma is designed more for the soy crowd, and less for the durability and simplicity crowd.
@@billw8476 Yup. That's why I own a 22' Tacoma SR. I'm glad I was able to get one of the last "simple" trucks before they're gone. I'm just amazed at what the Tacoma has morphed into. It's definitely out of my league now with just the cost alone, and I don't need all that supertruck capability. But I guess many feel they do. I'm just glad my Tacoma will last a long time. It's all the truck I'll ever need.
I think the styling of the pro is so spot on. Only downside is those seats bc you lose cab space, if you have kids.
Hope they’re optional
@@christianashcroft8298
I’m not sure if kids are optional once you have them
@@ericvolkman1490how to remove kids to gain cab space
@@christianashcroft8298I sure hope they are optional
Amazing! Really enjoyed your review👍
The 24 Tacoma is a awesome improvement. Complaining about prices won't matter. You don't buy it, someone else will.
Exactly. Plenty of people buys Porsches, Lambos and Ferraris. Just because you can’t afford it doesn’t mean other people can’t.
if no one buys them, the price would have to come down.
@@billw8476 but they will sell big time
Sorry if my English isn’t clear but after watching this video I don’t want a Tacoma. I want two. 😂. Saludos desde Mexico ✌🏼
I don’t care what the price is, I want a trd pro 🌮 and I want it now! Ice Cap white!
Bring the checkbook 😊
@@jml9550 it’s ready whenever this truck drops!!! 🌮😂
@@cybrtnk now that’s what I am talking about. If you got the money and willing to pay for it, more power to you. At the end of the day, buy what you love. It’s just money.
@@jml9550 we work too damn hard and long hours to not spoil ourselves every once in a while!!
@@cybrtnk completely agree. We paid off our home and rental last year and now debt free. Just bought my wife a new Lexus NX hybrid, $52k cash in full and a $10k ring. We work hard, save and invest wisely. It is ok to spend money and enjoy the fruit of our labor. At the end of the day, we can’t take it with us.
That Terra color looks sweet, at first I thought I would like a PRO in underground, but not I’m thinking about the Terra color more and more
I can’t wait for the $10,000+ stealerships markups!
These trucks will go for $75k to $93k
Tried calling and they recommend putting name down for the highest model to have a better chance at getting one LOL let the schemes begin
The US government came up with the Franchise Law that require the manufacture to sell through the dealer. The purpose is to protect the consumer from the manufactures lol
im saving up i think they will go for like 75k ill get one by the end of next year
Yep! Unaffordable for Working Folks.
Great review I’m leaning towards the TRD PRO but I wanted to know, which of these trucks offers a more comfortable ride for washboard roads with pot holes?
The pro for sure it has isodynamic shocks in the seats and soft setting suspension modulation. It’s a clear winner there.
Great video highlighting the differences between these two awesome machines. Well made with some great tips. Should we expect the same with the new 4runners?
Technically, the TRD Pro os the flagship
The Pro has its own tailgate and Fox Shocks.
The Trailhunter doesn't.
That's your clue, as to which one Toyota favors.
Can't wait to see the crazy ass prices for both.
Might as well just get a tundra lol
TRD pro Tacoma starts at $60,000 dollars excluding dealership markups and taxes and tags, ball park at $65,000 dollars.
@@eddieBoxera midsize for 65 k? It better suck me and f*ck me for that
Ditch the stupid snorkel and allow a moon roof as an option and I could be convinced to give the trailhunter a shot.
You said you can manually shift. Just making sure it doesn’t have paddle shifters does it?
I just went to a car show where the prototype trailhunter was on display, I didn't see any paddle shifters so it's probably manual shifting at the shifter.
The trail hunter looks way better imo, but can I just use it for the stuff you showed using the TRD pro?
Those are my dream!
Do they both have the same width dimensions?
It will be great when these Tacomas go up against the 2024 Chevy colorado Bisen and the Ford Ranger Raptor-the mid sized truck segment just got interesting to say the least!!
Thanks for sharing!
How good do you think the Trailhunter would be at Baja/Desert running? In contrast, could the TRD Pro hang with the Trailhunter in overlanding and rock crawling? I'm talking stock for stock. Right now, I'm thinking the Trailhunter is an overall far superior vehicle.
What about hill 3?
The iso dynamic seat demonstration was like a split second. Seems more gimmicky and unnecessary as most people won't be driving off-road and if they don't won't be at speed. Hopefully, the seats are an option and dealers aren't forced to get them installed like that awful roof rack on the 4runners and FJs at one point.
After 3 weeks of test driving.....i settled on the 2024 Nissan Pro 4X loaded. 48k OTD with every available option. Happy Holiday's ! :)
99% of toyota buyers would Never cross shop a Nissan
Waiting for the Trailhunter, don't matter if cost $80,000 I'm buying long term and high quality truck 👌
I still don't get the difference between the two. I thought the TRD Pro was the rock-crawler beast while the Trailhunter was the one for speed through dunes and sand.
It’s going to be 85k everyone don’t get your hopes up everyone
85k for something worse than both the raptor and zr2
Well considering the 2024 Trd off-road is going to be over 50,000 with some options o would imagine these will be past 60,000! That’s insanity for a midsized truck
These both look amazing, and I know Ima going to get flamed for this but how would the Rivian compare off road? I would rather have the Toyota but was curious.
Rivian is in another league. So is the Cybertruck.
How big is the presenter? I'm 6'0" and always wanted a Taco....buy could never fit😢 the steering wheel sits on my thighs, and the roof is 1" above my head...gonna have to go test drive!
Yep. I bought a '21 when it was new & sold it 8 months ago. Seating position sucks
seeing this video just made me realize I don't need a TRD pro or Trailhunter version of the Tacoma
Trd sport is 50k without the trd sport package. Why is it called the trd sport, then? These are overpriced trucks. Nissan frontier pro4x is only mid sized truck that brings value. Only in the US do we get screwed with these out of control vehicle prices.
if i wanted a new mid size truck i would buy the nissan frontier, no 4cyl. turbo"s for me.
It's not just the us it's everywhere cupcake. Times have changed welcome to the new days of vehicle prices…
I'd just get an sr5 tundra for the same price as a Tacoma lol
@davidmckibbin4440
before - we want the turbo 4 from the hilux
Now - we want the v6
In 2023 COLA was a record 8.7% to keep up with inflation. Meaning if you aren’t fighting to keep your income consistent with inflation then you are losing money. I always base my yearly salary, bonus, raise on work ethic and then COLA. It’s 3.2% for 2024. Almost 12% in two years. Don’t let your employer give you these 2% raises.
65-70k Out the door. Im just waiting for it.
Don’t buy! So we get cheaper in 2025, it’s not difficult to hold out on artificial pricing
Ain’t happening. The one who’s got the money will buy.
@@jml9550
Of course they will and then prices will come down after the early adopters.
Look at the f150 lightening, started at $125k now they can’t sell them at msrp
@@ericvolkman1490what I am saying is the hype will die down after a year or so, then price will come down to MSRP or lower. I don’t see Toyota flooding the market with over supply anymore. They will limit production and keep the price high.
@@jml9550Toyota does not limit production..you don't know or understand how over worked we are. You guys are funny thinking you know the market
where is this? i want to go!
Do you have to subscribe to use the navigation tho?
why? arent you just using google or ios maps?
Is it me or does that very first TRD proo badge doesn't look straight lol
As someone who makes around 55k a year, will I be able to afford one of these bad ass trucks? I want one so bad!😂
Guy better make 100 plus to afford one of these, don’t feel bad
Cant wait to take this thing to wal mart
Makes me want to vomit thinking about paying $60k+ for a midsize pickup. People will be paying mortgage size payments for these. Not hating on the truck. I would love to have one. Just venting lol
How much??? Probably 65,000 than a 10k dealer markup.
Nice
I love my outside design 2024 frontier pro 4x than this tacomas but the interior n technology of this tacomas are way better, nicer, 😮
Is this a truck review or a how to drive video?
TRD Pro is for bajaing and the Trailhunter is for rock crawling
Good luck finding one of them for under 60K, prices for midsize trucks are getting ridiculous.
On top of that the dealer will mark them up and add unnecessary accessories that they are not willing to removed.
Gloss black fender trim on the pro 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
70k in California with markup, bloody HELL
Wait for 2025 model year. The hype will eventually die down and it is be at MSRP or lower.
@@jml9550but u wont enjoy life if u keep waiting until u die hahaha
🌮
I really like these trucks, I don’t think they are overpriced since they do have nice features
For that price I would add a little few more dollars and get a used TRX
The trd pro seats are absurd.
As soon as Banks make it tougher for people to be over their heads in debt on vehicles, you'll see sales for all these start drying up.
Trd offroad without the offroad package. 😂 Is it TRD Pro without the Trd Pro package ? Might as well get a supped up SR5
Nice trucks but for the money I'm buying the Chevy ZR2.
How much farther can you go? Misleading title. 😅
llowlow price of 80K
Only has like 250 miles of range
I can do all these things with my 2022 TRD off road, and better…
Nice video. But doing an add like this, surely we can’t trust y’all to do a legit review when the time comes…
$65k+ trucks... at this point, one is better off getting a twin turbo tundra for under $60k.. then spen a few thousand $$$ in suspension upgrades.
Dude, don’t get these Turbo haters started, let alone Twin Turbos. The sky is falling now that the V6 Taco is gone.
Grand Highlander, Crown line up, Land Cruiser, Tacoma, Camry, maan Toyota cooked in 2023.
Too much traffic
Who cares anymore too expensive buy a full sized
The trailhunter makes the pro look like a child
18 gallons tank isn’t taking u far. Ev sorry kind of range
3rd gen on steroids - no thank you.
The clowns on here crying about the price. I'm sure you guys bitched about how much the taco was a dinosaur 🦕 well here ya go lol. I'll stick with my v6...
Toyota has jumped the shark with these Tacomas. Seriously overpriced, and a downgrade with a 4 cylinder.
Before - we want the turbo 4 from the hilux
Now - we want the v6
@@ragnarok400good one. No V6, the sky is falling……😊
@@ragnarok400 no real taco owner wanted a 4 cylinder. Trucks are V6 and higher.
These tacos are for beta males who just want to show off when they go get their Starbucks.
@@jml9550 A hybrid turbo, which will not last longer than a NA V6. The turbo will fail before anything, and you’re looking a pricey repair.
@@MidNiteR32 that’s just assumption without proven facts. Turbos are just as reliable with proper maintenance, mainly frequent oil change.
Toyota got all trumpy. I’m out.
toyota did not get all "trumpy" just the opposite....it went biden soy!
What a crock of hype BULLSHIT from Toyota. 2024 Tacoma's only offers a POS 2.4L engine. Time will tell Toyota Fuked up! I'll keep my 2015 TRD Off Road.
TRD Pro will most likely MSRP for around $64k. Why Toyota is installing gloss black fender flares on an off-road oriented truck is puzzling.
It doesn't need to make sense. You ain't buying one anyways
