My initial training was as a 67N20, Huey mechanic. I did a tour in Vietnam and flew as a door gunner for HHT 7/17 th Air Cav. Returned to the states and worked in the hangar at Ft Lewis, HHT 3/5 Air Cav. Ended up with a 67Y20 MOS, Cobra mechanic. Got the opportunity to fly in a Cobra on test flight, sat in the front seat and went out over Puget Sound. I actually got a little “stick time”. Quite an experience! I’ll never forget it.
@Mike Haggar Between ages 13 and 17, I lived near an army base that had a small helo field with Cobras and Hueys. My bubbies and I were Army brats with real interest in rotary-winged aircraft and the field personnel got to know us so we were allowed to hang out and enjoy the sights and sounds...never managed a ride. Hell, we used to camp out on a farm adjacent to the base and if they saw us, the pilots would drop down and buzz us at tree-top level. I bet they can't do that anymore!
It has no A.D.S. boom sticking out from the right side of the canopy. It has the newer K747 main rotor blades on it...has the 20mm gun, but the T.S.U. (telescopic sight unit/ AKA "the bucket") has been removed and blocked off with a nosecone. It looks as tho the aircraft started life as an E.C.A.S. model...or AH-!E. E.C.A.S. stood for Enhanced Cobra Armament System. I worked on these as a crewchief in Desert Storm. I know work on the AH-64D Apache...but I really miss the Cobras!!! So simple...and you could beat the snot out of them, and they'd keep on goin'!!!
What an awesome helicopter ! Thanks for sharing and I remember watching planes fly when it was still the Confederate Air Force out of Chino, Ca. back in the eighties ! Damn PC bs !
Anyone know what model this one is? What is the difference between this one and AAHF's you tube ah 1 cobra flight 11 which is the foxtrot. I was the Govt Army engineer for the HMPP exhaust. Besides aft cowl and IR suppression plug what about blades (looks like Kaman 240 on both) and engine, plus canopy looks different. I am not looking for weapon system differences; just airframe and power plant differences.
Can anyone tell me how this was filmed with main rotors maintaining human eye speed-up while the tail rotor is phased with camera speed. Tail rotor actually slows, stops and reverses itself. I just am wondering how the film framing was done.
I worked on these for 5 years, part of which was in Desert Storm! Now I work on Apaches... They phased the cobras out of US service for good in 2001.... I liked the Cobras much more than the Apache!...Hands Down!!!! Apaches are constantly breaking!! Too much stuff on them to go wrong!! But hey...that's politics will do!!
Politics always interfears, the rusians always do their best or kick out if no good performs, us take time to upgade .Know upgrade to 4 blades. The first time I saw a war chopter with 2 blades I thought it was stupit. Hello as more blades the better performce.
STILL one of the coolest helos EVER made!!!

The front seat has full flight controls?
Is that the same rotor system that was put on the Bell 214? It sounds like it runs just a few RPM slower than the ol' Huey.
Love that sound of two blades rotor, I think it’s so special that cannot be replaced
gotta love "Ole Shakey" of the UH-1 and AH-1's during start up and throttles still at Idle
Eleven years later and I'm proud to claim like number 1,000. One of my personal favorite helicopters after seeing them up close in my lifetime
What a beautiful aircraft...sound of my youth!

Love those 'Shark Jaw' 🦈 [ORCA]
Excellent film footage and sound.

My black cat loves the sound of this.
AH-1s is my fave
These are some HUGE blades...
They literally chop the air, you could say.
My all time favorite helicopter
i been up close to one of this birds and they are sweet birds loud as hell
Cobra is my favorite #1
The sound from the rotors is music man. Btw, this Cobra shown here was flown by the Army or Marines?
@@goldenmanuever1176 The Army used to fly them too back in ‘Nam.
I think I know where this was filmed. I live right by it.
I miss hearing this sound flying over. The Zulu Cobra’s and Venom’s don’t sound like this no more.
i remember the good old days, they sure would save your ass.
I worked on these in the Army 82-86 armament tech 68J10 just missed the intro to the Apache.
2014 Bell Ah-1f Cobra Helicopter
One of the more older AH it tasks a little bit longer to start up
They're tough as hell, too.
Nothing more beautiful. Nothing. - "Teflon 24"

Awesome.
Long Live THE COBRA!
I've seen what they can do. And to this day I thank god that they fought on our side.
Yep Puff the Magic Dragon? And the water buffalo ?and anyone know what those were in nam.?
harvey daulton I don’t understand your comment.. The AC47s would fuck shit up, too
@@harveydaulton8800 Puff the Magic Dragon was a name for the AC-47. Water Buffalos are native animals to asia, india, and china.
Perfect
my brother was a cobra pilot in vietnam with the blue max 70 71 .nick name bugs moran.

looks like a S model because of the flat panel canopy. the G model canopies were curved.
Awesome! YO JOE 💥 😯 👏🏿 😁 👍🏿
Front heavy? That's how helicopters move forward.
They're still used by the Marines.
Hurricane of helicopters
Looks like a mod s with the Kamron 747 blades. Worked on these at my first permanent party in Ft. Campbell Ky. 229 attack helicopter battalion. 1983.

The tail rotor rotates at much higher speeds than main rotor so it passes through the so called "wagon wheel effect" phase before the main rotor.
***** How cute, the Marines think they have a vehicle winner after the Army already proved soo....
IS THAT A SUPRA IN THE BACK
maStEr LemOnS no its not

Rhode Island National Guard still had the Cobra after 2001 I used to see them at the airshows
Its unballanced?
A Cobra painted as Shark!
Wicked
built for agility and speed.
sunilmotwani krishna
Looks like an rc helicopter
Look like the sound of uh-1
What happened to the ADS?
The Air Data System (ADS) was installed on the Fully Modernized Cobra. This was the generation prior.
🔥👌🔥👌
no helmet...weird
I bet; the cobra is one powerful attack helicopter
Cool....old medic..
Angeles sound
I still think they named it wrong, should have been The Wasp it's fast and it has a big sting and even looks like a wasp.
The Blue Thunder, isn't ?
Probably full of 8bit microcontrollers and 14 pins logical chips
Infantry support Hilo old Vietnam era single engine twin rotor
Front heavy.
He thicc
OMG, those blades, really? Those are not blades, but wings! 😲
Exactly. The chord on cobra blades is insanely large compared to other helos of its size. Its insane
HA LO STESSO IDENTICO MOTORE DELL''UH-1B HUEY, FANTASTICO
Christ these things are narrow
Sorry Russia!!! Can't compete
Too long for taking off...need some Vipers
A magnificent machine. The only fault I can find with it is that's just plain ugly.
No not front heavy. I should have watched vid first. My washing machine is better ballanced.
:D
Mil mi helicopter could shot it down easy .
