  • A brief Gang-gang update for 26 June 2024. We had roughly 20-22 Gang-gangs visit the table this morning, including 6 babies (3M, 3F), which was quite encouraging and exciting to see. Last breeding season (2023-2024) we had really heavy rain in my local area, which wiped out alot of the Gang-gang nests, but nevertheless, I can now confirm that at least 6 juveniles managed to survive, still a pretty good result in spite of the heavy rain. For comparison, in Winter 2023 we had 10 juvenile Gang-gangs visiting our feeding table.

Quite the variety of birds visiting your table in mid-winter. I saw gang-gangs (of course), rainbow lorikeets, sulfur-crested cockatoos, that king parrot, and some crested pigeons on the ground. Very nice! The poor king parrot didn't know what to do with all the gang-gangs about; he's not a very assertive parrot. But it was definitely good to see the one gang-gang trying to run off the sulfur-crested cockatoo before the alert call sent many flying. The cockatoo seemed a bit surprised and uncertain about that.

Haha yes the occasional Gang-gang does offer some occasional resistance to the SCCs, with varying degrees of success/failure....
