Terra Drop heavy duty tear drop trailer by Oregon TrailR : Overland Expo 2018

- If you are in the market for one of the highest quality off road tear drop trailers available then you need to take a look at the trailers made by Oregon Trail'R.
Btw their tear drop trailers actually look like "tear drop" trailers of the past and not a square box on wheels. To some that is important.
If you go off road over rocks and ruts then you know how bad trailers get beat up. A cheap trailer will fall apart after a couple trips in the back country.
For example I rented a U-Haul trailer to move furniture in the city and it handled like crap on regular paved roads due to the cheap torsion bar axles and craptastic tires....so you can imagine how bad that level of low quality handles off road.
The trailers by Oregon TrailR are built to the highest quality with waterproof UV film treated woods, high quality TIMBREN suspensions, stainless steel chassis parts so it doesn't rust when scrapped and old world craftsmanship in a small shop in Eugene Oregon. They build their trailers to be heirlooms that can be handed down to your grandkids.
Can you build a cheaper trailer yourself? Sure you can...but Oregon TrailR has perfected their craft and that is what you pay for.

Thanks for taking us to the show again this year.
Thanks for watching.
They thought of everything. Really impressive. Another great video Mix.
I guess im randomly asking but does anyone know of a method to get back into an Instagram account?
I somehow forgot the password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me.
@Alfonso Carlos Instablaster :)
@Tate Hamza I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im in the hacking process now.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Tate Hamza it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my account !
@Alfonso Carlos glad I could help :)
Love the product, their enthusiasm seems genuine. Fantastic
Thanks for the great video Mixflip! It was nice talking with you again at the show. If you do end up in our area, come on by for a visit!
OregonTrailR it was awesome catching up with you as well. Keep up the incredible work.
OregonTrailR you never showed the top tent option
Whoops! Are there any questions we can answer about it for you?
I really like those peek a boo shots of the glare and of the bright sun, keep it up with the great videos
By far best teardrops I've seen. I want one of those!
Awesome video ! I am into camping but my wife is not . Luckily we live in the woods in Massachusetts so our everyday life is luxury camping . Love your channel !
Thats a good way to look at it. You guys are clamping every day!!! I envy you.
Finally , someone who knows how to design a teardrop!
I love these little tear drop campers, thanks for sharing
Exceptional conceptualization and engineering... well thought out. Quite impressive... time for Sasquatch hunting.
Wow I am completely blown away by this video I tell you what if the military had camping trailers these guys would be the ones that they would be pulling👍👍💪
Nicely done ! Over built good product! As a Trucker I definitely approve of the trailer hitch!👍🏼
Genius idea with the mirror access.
Hey Mixflip,
I would completely delete the video that has him quoting these at 5500.00 (only a year and a half ago) because after talking with them and getting a quote, the price has doubled for a base model of the DoDrop Alpha! Apparently tripled according to this video! I REALLY wanted to buy one of these but after that experience with the astronomical jump in price, I'm not feeling it anymore. Real bummer too😔. Being from the PNW, I was getting good vibes for one of these and the fact they're brothers. Having brothers myself, it just kinda felt good.
That is a bummer
This market is an extremely niche market. Very boutique. 1 to 5 people in a company which often leads to higher prices. Winnebago makes thousands of campers a year so their prices are lower due to volume. These guys probably make a handful a year and they are only built when an order is made. if they have no orders...they don't eat. The up side is that you are buying a work of art. Very rare. Jayco is finally getting into the game so you will see their campers for a lot cheaper...but its a Jayco lol.
That's a neat little trailer...
I love that you utilize the trucking industry T-track for cargo hold-downs. Usage of existing products is much better than the "proprietary connectors" ruse to sell me more crap that isn't versatile with my other equipment. I WOULD like the water tank a little more protected when off-roading and cold. Nice job though.
Impressive demo. Seems to be real attention to detail here in construction and design, overbuilt where it needs to be, and passionately presented.
Excellent product, excellent presentation, wish everyone concerned with it , huge success.
Love your vids. You're giving us a great deal of insight in to this really cool way of life.
Wow, you guy’s build some nice stuff!
Great video
Another great vid, Mix. Thanks. Btw, you have a real eye for good gear.
great product and excellent walk through!
Enjoyed your video. I ordered the Oregon Trail'r "Do-Drop a few months ago. Can't wait for delivery :)
Rick & Zack Explore Offroad awesome!
tremendous products by Oregon Trail'R
Thank you Mario, much appreciated!
This is the BEST I’ve seen in this category.
bruder, exp-4.....
I'm sold love how the basic is$15k but that leaves so much room for you to add to it especially if ur on a budget maybe next year man I want one
ponyboy thanks for watching. I'll get one some day. Just gotta save up.
Thanks Sir! That’s why we offer options ala carte, so you can customize it however works best for you. We appreciate the comment!
OregonTrailR I was impressed with the look an building of ur trler very solid design
Good video walkthrough. I want one of these to tow behind my Rover so bad.
great job on the video
Awesome product the person giving the interview did a great job sharing everything about his product I really like your content thanks a lot for doing what you do cool man real cool pictures of that able to make two I like go to Long hanging up with you
Awesome product. Such attention to details.
ldn0224 As an experienced woodworker, I agree. It’s beautiful! As a former owner of a camper made out of wood, I I wouldn’t even pay half of what they are asking for. I love wood! It’s beautiful but it rots! And these trailers have no insulation value. Just a sheet of plywood. The finish looks amazing when it’s new but 5 years in, when the plywood starts to crack and delaminates, it’s all over.
love the outside lighting system, red light, diff color temps, and other nice design features. but personally i need more window area and ventilation.
Excellent Accessory for a Jeep!!!
Video after video and no one will lay down and show us the room that's there...I don't get it? Unless it's so uncomfortable to do it or people are just absent minded?
The best teardrop that’s so underrated 🥶🥶🥶 this thing is sick
I really like the dew drop alfa
Me too. Its tiny and very cool looking with that wheel on the back!
Great video walk through. I appreciate the time you put into it.
I WANT ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for that very informed video, this guy does really know his stuff, although I don’t live in the states, I am going to purchase something similar here in Spain . Oh yeh I’m also ex military , ha .love it .
Really cool I’m getting one!
Great job the trailer, but more importantly great job on having a good heart and spirit - it's all over your face keep it up
Just a suggestion, it would be cool to see aftermarket videos of different products like the windows and other things for overland trailers/vehicles
I had planned to film more products but I was running late to this show and lost a full day. Then ran out of time because the show was double the size of last year. Next year I plan to stay all 4 days and film both the rigs and the gear. One man can't film this show it has become a monster of a show!
mixflip I'm wanting to build a toy hauler type tear drop where the bed folds down and you can put a couple dirt bikes or maybe a quad in it. I'm just having a hard time finding good quality products to buy for it. I really enjoy both your pew pew channel and this one as well. Keep up the great work!👌
Do they have a way to put a fridge or direct water heater I mean $34k they should be able to right?
Omg! Epic trailer
Epic is the perfect word for sure.
Great video! I was wondering if there were any vendors producing the swag style camper that is very popular in Australia?
Nice trailers but they need to start using composites to replace the wood. That would reduce the weight significantly. Good to see the use of an articulating hitch.
Composites do have their advantages, for sure, and there are plenty of campers out there being built with them. We prefer using Baltic Birch plywood because of it's massive strength/stiffness potential when combined with furniture-style joinery techniques (can't do with most composites), it's ability to be easily repaired if necessary, and also because it's just plain gorgeous. The feeling you get when laying inside one of our campers, watching all the beautiful grain flow throughout the cabin, simply cannot be replicated by composite materials. Thanks for the comment Gary.
No space for the fridge?
I know it’s windy but seriously the wind feedback is crazy bad. Content was awesome just painful 💓
Black brings heat to the living space
adriancarabajal
It doesn’t matter at night. Is an outdoor piece of equipment designed for the adventurer. However, your point warns a point.
Sliding doors only ! No room for swing doors !
You need a foam cover over your microphone to dampen the wind noise.
I had one earlier. It broke so I just rolled with the on board mic.
A slide out for a portable fridge would be really nice
Love everything about this video and the trailer. The host asked excellent questions, and the owner was super knowledgeable and down to earth. He could’ve been arrogant given the obvious high quality product he makes, but he showed himself as a good guy. The ONLY thing to dislike about the entire video was those d@mn chemtrails, seen at 29:00, taking over the otherwise blue skies.
see that chemtrail triangle at 13:43 and again at 21:10 (where a pilot is laying down another) and then see how much it has grown and fanned out at 29:00. If we don't get geoengineering exposed and stopped there won't be any wilderness to overland and camp at.
agree there
It’s a little misleading I’ve been on their website and the base model for the Terradrop is like $16K. The DO drop base model is the one that is only around $5k- but that one doesn’t come with the galley/kitchen in the back which is kind of key.... so I’m a little confused but if it’s actually only $5k for the base model of this one I am SOLD! :P
It's like any other big ticket item. There is a bare bones budget starting point....and it can go up from there depending on the features you want these custom builders to ad into the design when you sit down with them before the build.
Remember this is basically a small family business with no dealerships and almost no mainstream marketing. It's also all hand made and here is the biggest of all....its all made in America and that right there is expensive.
Believe it or not China makes off road trailers too.
Great video once again Mixflip. Subscribed!
These are probably the best teardrop style trailers out there imo. Well thought out and excellent craftmanship! I'm curious about the decals (?) on the line-x. The flag and white and red oregon trail'r logo's....are those painted on or are they vinyl decals that have been melted into the line-x?
Great stuff guys!
Steve, thanks for the kind words! We apply the vinyl very carefully using lots of heat and a special pressure roller. Not easy, but works well!
Perfect👍
Hello,
What is the approximate current lead time segmented into separate actual waiting time + production time for a fully-loaded TerraDrop?
What is the approximate current lead time segmented into separate actual waiting time + production time for a basic TerraDrop?
Thanks!
Patrick
Oregon Trail’R. Brilliant.
thanks nice video terrific demostration very good very good
Awesome teardrops! Will the line-x option be available in different colors?
Yes sir! They are able to tint it a few different colors, or it can be painted any color with a polyurethane-based paint.
Pretty sweet. But wayyyy out of my price range. Looks like a tent is still in my future
You and me both. Look at hiker trailers maybe if you want a budget option. Their bare bones model starts at $3k. Also weeroll and runaway campers makes a $3k budget camper.
A fold down bag with waterproof lid hooked onto the side step, would be good for shoes and gloves to go in.
I was just thinking where the best place to put shoes........ Great idea!
can u tell me what to look at if wonting to pull trailer with ATV. 1500 lbs at max. Keep doing what u r doing
look at Smitty Built
Great vid !
So where is there any space for a cooler or refrig?
I'm 6"3 200lbs. will this work for my wife and I? What is cost?
watch the video, he answers your questions
Is there instant hot water, tankless heaters, on these models? Or just on the shower tube?
Can a arb fridge be added?
Would be great if they actually responded to the quote requests that I’ve done on their website.
Matt Atkinson super Sorry about that Matt, we are a tiny crew of 3, and we have thousands of quote requests backlogged. My brother spends a couple hours a day getting back to people in order of when they came in, but they are coming in faster than we can get to them... please give us a call Monday and let us know you are waiting. You’ll be fast tracked to the front of the line. Once again, my sincere apologies for the wait, we are doing our best!
I think this whole Overland TT, TD, and RTT's are just awesome! Getting ready to go to the Overland Expo East next week.
Are you guys going to be there? If not, do you have dealers, in the east? If I had to purchase from you in Oregon, How would I get something fixed under warranty living in South Carolina, Love that Terra Drop Alpha! Oh Yeah, my wife wants to know can you get air conditioning in one? It's her, not me, she's from the South! , LOL.
$34K !!! WTF. I wish i heard that at the beginning of the video.
I too loved it, until I heard the price.
So buy the other one that's $5500.
@@OddBallPerformance What’s the other one you’re referring to?
@@TheAyotteMan the first one.
Nice video thanks
Would love to get more info on, your Teardrop camper!!!!!
Nice vid.
Black exterior ? Are you guys crazy ? Hides the defects but cooks the campers !!!
Didn't you do your research. It's made for winter camping
good presentation
buck rowley thanks for watching
jhonatan que tipo de recubrimento usaste como se llama el material en el terradrop alpha, si fueras tan amable de describirlo ya no usas aluminio, si pudieses publicarlo en fotos saludos de peru
Thanks for watching
Very well made overall I just wish the inside was a little larger.
You could buy a used van for much less than $34,000 and build out the inside yourself and have much more room.
@@remyllebeau77 Valiant expedition campers can build an extra tall camper like this for you.
That would look nice behind my Hyundai i30 here in Ireland
Daaaammmnnnn...
Love it
since it has 2 doors opposite each other i think they missed a big oppurtunity to stick a whole door sized slide out storgage compartment that fit in the bed area for transport that quickly slides out when you need the bed. Could double interior storage option and or built in gear that isnt any room for elsewhere.
Good idea.
What does it weigh?
Nice trailer. Trump needs one to hide out in too. I am an advocate of riding folding recumbent trikes. Your trailer has an opening wide enough to fit these inside during transit. Your tent is fantastic. The Baltic Birch for the cabinets is superb. Everything you have done is so well thought out. Thanks.
TRUMP 2020. :-)
Trump 2020! Ivanka 2024
@@hamradiocq Trumputin is toast. He needs to get fitted for an orange prison jumpsuit.
$15000! WTF?
American made too.
How the fuck does nobody mention the size of the beds. Holy shit it’s like the most important part of the trailer
And interior height!
I'd like to have known some physical features....as in, Weight. Dimensions. Etc. Also, to get a better sense of scale, how big Jonathan is.....sos that viewers could guesstimate their own capacity/ability to use the same.
WOW, awesome trailer!
Hello, what kind of RTT was on top of that camper?
That's a Free Spirit Recreation (FSR) RTT. Our first trip with one, and it performed awesome. Very quick deployment and tear-down.
Outer finish is the same material as the Nighthawk F-117 stealth fighters from Skunk works
do have a senior discount and vet nice design overall, but a way to high of a price.
Please use a dead cat on your mic. The distracting noise ruins an otherwise great video.
I did use a dead cat on an external mic earlier in the day but it was malfunctioning. So I ditched it and used the on board mic and prayed for the best.
Sorry....life happens.
It's a shame you'd let something as miniscule as wind noise "ruin" this video for you. I think it's a very informative video that provides great insight into the line of trailers. Well done Mixflip!
@@Wahlno my mic with a dead cat malfunctioned that day so all I had was on board audio. Life happens. I did my best. Better than no audio.
Does it have a spare tire also is e270 degree awning available
you can ad a spare
Hey man this is Chris I met you today at the Flagstaff expo I’ll see you tomorrow and Sunday I think but if not and you still need somebody to take your trailer back, because your buddy transmission went out let me know and give me a call!
Man I fuking want one bad
Love vortex red dots
I wish you would invest in a sock for your microphone it would make your videos a lot better
All through the video I was like oh yea, oh yeah, oh yeah.. then I heard the price and said HELL NO!!
Did you expect $5,000? 🤣 I think you get what you pay for. Also, what you’ll do with it. Take it out for 3 days a year? Just rent. For me? I’m buying one to live out of for a year or more for a project I’m working on. It’s perfect.
I agree with everyone else. This is a very nice trailer but the exposed water tank with no skid plates is a HUGE flaw.
"everyone else," LOL. I'll tell you the same thing I told the other guy with this concern- The lowest point of that water tank is 24 inches off the ground, the lowest point of a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is 10.8 inches. The best ground clearance of any stock off road rig is a Land Rover LR4, with 12.2 inches. A Mercedes Unimog, with portal axles STILL only has 15.7 inches of ground clearance. What does this all mean? It means that if you scraped the water tank on this trailer, you have already destroyed your tow vehicle, unless you are driving the Grave Digger. And we aren't worried a bit about rocks flying up from the highway, this is super-impact resistant roto-molded plastic that can sustain any amount of gravel thrown up at it. There's no point in adding a heavy and expensive skid plate to a tank that will never sustain an impact that would necessitate a skit plate.
OregonTrailR so why do Jeep owners often install skid plates on their lifted vehicles when off-roading? Because a big rock doesn't care if you are 24" off the ground. If they are protecting metal parts with skid plates on their lifted Jeeps, I am pretty sure there is a good reason to do that for a plastic tank full of water that is supposed to supply your stay while Overlanding. LOL
Look, we can absolutely install a skid plate over the water tank... super easy... no problem... wanna buy one now? We're happy to build yours with a skid plate... :) The mount points are already there and ready for it... We have several other options available for our trailers that are not shown on this unit as well... Hopefully this bit of info will help lower our collective blood pressure regarding skid plates.
@mississipVol, I see my brother already responded to your comment, but allow me to respond as well. Some Jeep owners install skid plates because the parts they are likely to drag are a full 12" lower than any sensitive points on this TerraDrop. That said, we have installed and will continue to install skid plates on campers that are ordered with skid plates. The owner of this particular TerraDrop in the video above did NOT want the extra expense and weight of something they will never have a need for. They are casual off-roaders (towing behind a Jeep Wrangler without armor), and will not be taking their camper to Hammertown to compete in rock-crawling races. We build our campers to order, and this was not ordered with skid plates, it's that simple. Like my brother said, if you want it on yours, you can have it, but start saving up buddy because skid plates are very expensive to make. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, our water tanks are made of roto-molded High Density Polyethylene, which is the same material many 4x4 accessory companies are making their skid plates out of these days, because of it's incredible ability to withstand impact, and the fact that it has very little sliding friction when compared steel or aluminum, allowing it to very easily slide off of rocks, trees, whatever. LOL
good info, thanks for clearing that up.
I see that more than on teardrop is shown, can I have a breakdown of what the cost is for each one shown?
Great idea, but I did mine for $4000, all you need in a small trailer lift it, put all terrain tires on, solar, much more room can go anywhere this one can. I guess people have money to burn. Old aluminum trailers work best .
You mean like just buying a cargo trailer? I have to think the weight is different as well as the MPG. But for those on a budget I admit it would be hard to beat.
@@remyllebeau77 You can a number of ways, I used a 12ft old aluminum camp trailer, everything is already in as far as stove, ice chest etc. You can strip it down to remove weight of things you don't need, fridge, cabinets, so on. I didn't worry about weight as it was light and easy to haul, But i had a beefy truck, didn't really need it but that's what I had. Tear drops shape makes for a more aero dynamic rig, but for the cost difference you can buy a lot of fuel. I think it's more of a fade to own one, my friend has one, cost a fortune, but she has lots of money, not me. I have owned countess trailers of all kinds though my many years of camping. For the last 10 years we have done to big fifth wheels with two slides, the cost of a used one is about $10k, of course forget economy. But we are older and like the room and amenities.
@@timmytool1231 That is true and a good point, but it is hardly fair to compare a brand new trailer with a used trailer. Apples and oranges and all that.
I think it would be nice if someone came up with some good DIY instructions for building your own trailer rig, or for buying a cargo trailer and building the rest yourself, or even making your own pop-up.
@@remyllebeau77 I have never owned anything but used trailers, I do all my own mechanical work, used says a fortune, but you need to be able to fix, stuff, brand new will have problems, in fact the older stuff is so much better built than new RV now days. Very cheaply made.
@@timmytool1231 I agree.
