Just discovered your channel, loved the exercises, something resonated with me, the last two years I was the caregiver for my mother, she had had two strokes and was basically imobile, she lived with me So I did a lot of lifting, carrying and positioning her with careful form and a back support belt ,every single day ,I didnt go to the gym during the pandemic, she passed in May peacefully but I realized after this that I I was in incredible shape, strength , flexibility, and I feel core wise, I never noticed til people started commenting on how fit I looked, and I also felt great, also one of the things that I don't do it eat a lot,I eat when Im hungry and usually healthy , mediteranian type diet, anyway I just found it interesting that I never noticed the movements I used with my mother , were kind of exercises, Ive done many workouts over the years including weight training , martial arts, yoga , and these days I prefer to have lean muscle mass thats functional and balanced, working with my bodyweight more often, push /pull etc.. anyway sorry for the long comment

One of the best and most underrated core exercises is to walk up or down hill and maintain completely straight posture, whilst engaging your core. So the angle of your body should be parallel to the hill, as though you were walking on flat ground. Engage your core the whole time.
Other than that I like extended planks, hollow body holds and weighted hollow body leg raises (ankle weights are a really good way to do this.)

I know I could definitely add more core work to my workouts. However, I jump rope every single day and all of my training is bodyweight. So the variations i’m doing with pull-ups, push-ups and squats are giving me some great core strength without feeling like i’m doing strict core work. This video is going to make me add some more specific core strengthening to my workouts. Thanks always Trevor and Josh! 💪🏼

You could always throw in few hanging leg raise sets during the time you're already at the pullup up bar. Of course your grip can become a limiting factor if trying to do it all at once (but then increasing grip strength from more hanging can also be a bonus)
L sit pullups are also a potentially interesting variation....super hard at the bottom of the range of motion

Great point about hand exercises - love my crawling for that! Also, try using a basketball or football when crawling; let the ball roll around a bit under your feet as you pivot and swap feet and hands. The instability of the ball will make it more playful and fun and will test your core and suppleness.

    Functional....dynamic.... compound movements.
Negative sit-ups for gains in strength size are one of the best exercises for the rectus abdominis imho. Legs supported at the ankle , heels on the floor , abdominal wall should be fully contracted at the top(each section of the muscle should be as short as possible on both sides of the rectus abdominis) , then slowly resist while "unfolding the abdominal wall". You can use a belt or piece of rope to pull yourself back up. Try it. Often BW is enough at first. The need for additional weight happens quickly. Several sets till failure two times a week. It's a great addition to any "core" routine. Being able to do a sit-up without your heels lifting off the ground while your knees are at 50 % flexion is a great way to measure strength in the abdominal wall. A strong abdominal wall will allow you to do it almost effortlessly. You must " roll up " the abdominal wall and not sit straight up. The spine must flex fully without the tension leaving the muscle and transferring to the hip flexors.

Great video, just came across your channel.
One of my favorite core exercises is a bear crawl using an inflatable exercise ball. Put your hands on the ground, feet on the exercise ball and propel yourself forward about 40'-50', then turn around and go back. I mix this in with various core exercises.

@Strengthside, I've been watching your videos lately. I'm recovering from a frozen shoulder (both shoulders). I'm in my late 40s. do you guys think I still have a chance to be flexible and in shape? what kinds of exercises do you recommend? Also, do you have videos of the exercises that you recommend that I can follow along with? Thanks and more power to you.

Thank you! Do you have a video/guide for a beginner crawling routine? Something I can do in the comfort of my home when I have some free time?

Was wondering the same. The whole crawling thing intrigues me. I've been doing some very basic crawling around the house during home workouts.

@@VanCough just search Strengthside and beginner crawling. Was easy to find. Maybe the link isn't available for others as channels don't want random links posted which I get. Thought I'd try.
