came here to comment exactly this. Peggy isn't denying ant nature when he rushes to aid the queen; quite the opposite. The show dramatizes the split pretty nicely with the Royal Guards and Meruem only speaking, versus the Queen only using telepathy. I guess you could argue that the squadron leaders are sort of in between, since they can do both. But in terms of their motivations, the split is basically "Those who want to become tyrants themselves" and "Those who want to keep serving the queen." Even the ones who stay in the palace with the King and the RG aren't really there to serve
It's the best arc in the history of manga. Or at least it's up there, right next to Berserk's Golden Age, One Piece's Ennies Lobby, Naruto's chuunin exams, Kingdom's Coalition Invasion arc or FMA promosed day's.
I took it as symbolism. Peggy kindda looked like a priest (more so with him carrying the bible around in his past life). Also both him and the turtle were the calm, none threatening, advisers of the colony. You can say they had a more parental role compared to the rest. Killing someone so benign is shocking and makes his entrance unforgettable.

Yea at 2:58, The queen's job was to birth many Kings and her soldiers were always supposed to be loyal to her, not the king(s). Although kite is different, he was “born” right after the king which raises the question of Kites current status. Also, we still know nothing about kite even though he was reborn into a chimera ant. We don’t know the species of ant she is born into and what role she would have served in the ant kingdom. I’d say kite has a similar status to the king? Colt played a huge part in the palace invasion. And if it weren't for Colt Netero wouldn't have known how much more powerful the king was over him (he hadn't met him until that point, so he couldn't gage his power thro gyo without seeing the king first). Remember, Netero asked Colt how much more aura output does the King have over him. Colt suggest, "you probably won't even make it past his royal guards. That's when Netero when with the Poor Man Rose backup plan. Colt was the basically the interpreter for the hunters. And Melireon's actions were explained in the video.

One thing I disagree with is the idea that the Queen becomes useless once the King is born. That was true in this case, but only because of Meruem deciding he was done gestating and forcefully ripping his way out before he could be born normally. The way Chimera Ant reproduction was described, it was actually only natural for Peggy to prioritize the Queen, because normally the regular ants don't really have anything to do with the King. In a normal Chimera Ant colony, what happens is that the regular ants gather food for the Queen, and she then spawns first three Royal Guards who protect her, and then subsequently a King. Once the King is born, the Royal Guards follow and protect the King, who leaves the colony and seeks out a mate from a different species in order to mate with that mate and breed more Queens. The Queen on the other hand stays in her colony, still served by the regular ants, who gather food as she creates three new Royal Guards to protect the next King she births. So yeah, Peggy ignoring Meruem is normal Chimera Ant instincts, because as a regular ant Peggy normally has diddly d*ck to do with the King, the King is supposed to take his Royal Guard and screw off to go find himself some booty while the normal ants keep the Queen fed so she can birth the next King. In that way Meruem actually did embrace some human traits, namely the concept of what it means to be a King. He is to rule over all, and hence his word should be law. That's not an ant-trait, as an ant Meruem should have ignored the non-Royal Guards and headed out. It was the human concept of 'I am better, I am the King, I am the top of the hierarchy, so they all should obey me.' What was his ant-instincts was Meruem not considering what value Peggy might add to the colony, because Meruem doesn't care about the colony, it's not his colony, his job is to go out into the world, the colony ceased to be his basically the moment he's born, it's the Queen's. I think this provides another layer of similarity between Meruem and Gon, similar to how they have similar poses, such as when they sit. if you were to assume the first ever moment that adult gon committed, and the first moment that meruem committed, they both made the decision that would result in defeat. Meruem who would abandon humanity initially to killing Peggy and Gon who would abandon his humanity and nen future to kill Pitou This is also another parallel bc Meruem who should have been destined to win from the start took his own victory away in the beginning and becomes more human as the arc progressed where as Gon who was the most destined to lose in the beginning (“I’m no strong enough”) took his own victory away at the end and become more monstrous as the arc progressed

From what I recall in the story, the majority of the colony still follow the Queen after the King is born. The king's royal guard are completely loyal to the King, who now must go out into the world to find a mate, while the Queen goes on to lead the rest of the colony. That explains why the other ants were still so concerned about the Queen. The king's actions were outside what normally happens. Heck the first FIRST act the king took was being born prematurely. He turned out alright, but I can't help being curious what would have happened if the King had actually followed the Queen's advice and waiting a bit longer to hatch in the normal way. I doubt it'd make him immune to radiation or anything, but he might have been a bit stronger. That weird cut off pointy tail thing might not end so abruptly either.
The one thing you missed is that if you go back to ant tree of hierarchy, even after the king is born only the royal guards are supposed to be loyal to the king all the other ants are still under the queen so what Peggy did was actually the right thing.
His only mistake was to fight Netero on his conditions, or to think that strength was the only thing requested to dominate the world. He started to realize that by playing with kumogi but by the time he fought Netero it was to late. Humans didn't dominate this world by strength but by being adaptable in every situation
Ive always wondered why Meruem or the Antz didnt picture the Rose coming into play. If they only realize the weapons humans possess I think they would been more cautious, probably even settle for peace.

I know it will never happen but that crocodile chimera ant that got away. I would love to see where it went and rhe damage it did to ecosystems. It's the only one that didn't get into any major fights and left relatively quickly after the queen died.
The chimera ants explained the hierarchy and once the king was born only the royal guards were supposed to serve him so I never understood their loyalty to him
I believe the anime states that the squadron leaders and below would stay loyal to the queen. She wasn't supposed to die. She was supposed to make more kings. The only ones who are loyal to the king are the royal guard because they are literally designed for that purpose.
I just had a thought of if the Phantom Troupe attacked the Kurta Clan because it was some members of the Kurta clan on an expedition out of the village who killed Sarasa, probably really unlikely, just a thought.
i dont even remember how the humans got the queen? did Knov teleport her out? she probably coulda have been saved, and produced more "kings" or that same logic on the Dark Cont. the creatures must be so damn powerful there, that a queen literally can not survive long enough or produce off spring strong enough to continue building power
She was dying from giving birth to Meruem, and he and his Royal Guard wouldn't save her. Instead they left for East Gorto and Colt surrendered to the hunters on the condition that they try to save her. The humans tried, but she died anyway.
I think if Peggy had any influence nudging Meruem to a more human sentiment, Pouf would habe disposed of him. The main reason he held back with Komugi was that if she dies, she would be cemented as someone the King could never beat, and I don‘t see that form of protection happening for Peggy
Even Mereum's desire for a name led to him being outsmarted by Netero. If penguin was alive, he will probably better inform Mereum and warn him better.

If not for killing Pengy which set about Melleoron up to joining the Hunters in the invasion plan is set up the dominos of Meruem's downfall. A lesson the Ant King only learned at the end of his life.
The Chimera ants never could have concieved of nukes. Had Meruem retained Peggy, he would have read about them in East Gorteau and made it a point for his king to be aware of them. This would have lead to the logical conclusion that they can't just stay in one location like that have. Tehy'd need to spread throughout the known world and gain soldiers slowly. It would have left humans with fewer options.
Why didnt they use God's Accomplice with Shoot so he could use hotel R ability to take away parts of the chimera ant abilities. Surely they must have known that the royal guards and the king would have a butt load of aura, since Issac Nettero litterally said that Pito is stronger than him when he first sees her
if you asked me the biggest mistake the ants ever made was keeping Kite as a toy instead of feeding him to the ant queen, if Meruem was broken before imagine what he would be after absorbing the nen and nen ability of one of the strongest nen users in the world who was at the level of a royal guard, he would be in between post rose Meruem and normal Meruem

Before Gon, went into God Mode, fighting Pitou. When he said Lier, do you think he was talking about Killua, too? That was one of the conditions in activating God Mode.. His best friend lying to him. Because Killua said, multiple times we will get Kite back alive and leaving the fight was for the best so Kite, wouldn’t have to worry about us and fight with his full potential. (Just rewatched Gon vs Pitou Fight, lol) had me thinking, that Pitou wasn’t only one he was calling a lier when he said lier.

Funny enough Pokkle is an emitter and we later find out in the 2022 Togashi exhibition that Meruem is coincidently also an emitter. My guess is pokkle was the base for the king and he has that memory of Peggy 😂
If you think about it, it was all just a gungi/chess game from the very beginning. He just lost his queen and most of his soldiers from the very beginning because he believed that the king was the most important piece. I might be wrong though.

From what I recall in the story, the majority of the colony still follow the Queen after the King is born. The king's royal guard are completely loyal to the King, who now must go out into the world to find a mate, while the Queen goes on to lead the rest of the colony. That explains why the other ants were still so concerned about the Queen. The king's actions were outside what normally happens.
Heck the first FIRST act the king took was being born prematurely. He turned out alright, but I can't help being curious what would have happened if the King had actually followed the Queen's advice and waiting a bit longer to hatch in the normal way. I doubt it'd make him immune to radiation or anything, but he might have been a bit stronger. That weird cut off pointy tail thing might not end so abruptly either.

The one thing you missed is that if you go back to ant tree of hierarchy, even after the king is born only the royal guards are supposed to be loyal to the king all the other ants are still under the queen so what Peggy did was actually the right thing.

His only mistake was to fight Netero on his conditions, or to think that strength was the only thing requested to dominate the world. He started to realize that by playing with kumogi but by the time he fought Netero it was to late. Humans didn't dominate this world by strength but by being adaptable in every situation

Ive always wondered why Meruem or the Antz didnt picture the Rose coming into play. If they only realize the weapons humans possess I think they would been more cautious, probably even settle for peace.
Considering East Gorteau is basically North Korea, and they should have these weapons stored somewhere.

I know it will never happen but that crocodile chimera ant that got away. I would love to see where it went and rhe damage it did to ecosystems. It's the only one that didn't get into any major fights and left relatively quickly after the queen died.
Meruem had shot himself in the foot by killing Peggy & the Queen. He caused a massive schism amongst his troops & their ability to learn and adapt.

The chimera ants explained the hierarchy and once the king was born only the royal guards were supposed to serve him so I never understood their loyalty to him

I believe the anime states that the squadron leaders and below would stay loyal to the queen. She wasn't supposed to die. She was supposed to make more kings. The only ones who are loyal to the king are the royal guard because they are literally designed for that purpose.
I just had a thought of if the Phantom Troupe attacked the Kurta Clan because it was some members of the Kurta clan on an expedition out of the village who killed Sarasa, probably really unlikely, just a thought.

i dont even remember how the humans got the queen? did Knov teleport her out? she probably coulda have been saved, and produced more "kings" or that same logic on the Dark Cont. the creatures must be so damn powerful there, that a queen literally can not survive long enough or produce off spring strong enough to continue building power
She was dying from giving birth to Meruem, and he and his Royal Guard wouldn't save her. Instead they left for East Gorto and Colt surrendered to the hunters on the condition that they try to save her. The humans tried, but she died anyway.
I think if Peggy had any influence nudging Meruem to a more human sentiment, Pouf would habe disposed of him. The main reason he held back with Komugi was that if she dies, she would be cemented as someone the King could never beat, and I don‘t see that form of protection happening for Peggy

The Chimera ants never could have concieved of nukes.
Had Meruem retained Peggy, he would have read about them in East Gorteau and made it a point for his king to be aware of them.
This would have lead to the logical conclusion that they can't just stay in one location like that have. Tehy'd need to spread throughout the known world and gain soldiers slowly.
It would have left humans with fewer options.
Why didnt they use God's Accomplice with Shoot so he could use hotel R ability to take away parts of the chimera ant abilities. Surely they must have known that the royal guards and the king would have a butt load of aura, since Issac Nettero litterally said that Pito is stronger than him when he first sees her
if you asked me the biggest mistake the ants ever made was keeping Kite as a toy instead of feeding him to the ant queen, if Meruem was broken before imagine what he would be after absorbing the nen and nen ability of one of the strongest nen users in the world who was at the level of a royal guard, he would be in between post rose Meruem and normal Meruem

Before Gon, went into God Mode, fighting Pitou. When he said Lier, do you think he was talking about Killua, too? That was one of the conditions in activating God Mode.. His best friend lying to him. Because Killua said, multiple times we will get Kite back alive and leaving the fight was for the best so Kite, wouldn’t have to worry about us and fight with his full potential.

I think there's something that you got confused. When the king is born, only royal guard moves with the king, the rest stay with the queen as she makes more kings.

The fact that Peggy was the person to suggest the lobotomy and the first one killed just fuels my head canon theories the pokkle became the primary base for mereum.
Funny enough Pokkle is an emitter and we later find out in the 2022 Togashi exhibition that Meruem is coincidently also an emitter. My guess is pokkle was the base for the king and he has that memory of Peggy 😂
The idea that _Pokkle_ became Meruem is tragic.
If you think about it, it was all just a gungi/chess game from the very beginning. He just lost his queen and most of his soldiers from the very beginning because he believed that the king was the most important piece. I might be wrong though.
