    Glad to hear your excitement on this wine and the 2019 vintage. I've got three bottles of d'Armailhac, and a whole lot more 2019s than I originally planned to haha.
    Great review...this chateau is always nice for the price. Cheers!

      SC34: I think the 2019 is better than I thought but perhaps my expectation of the vintage was low for some reason. Cheers!

    Excellent review! You state it is a more classic vintage. 2019 is rather high in alcohol (14-14.5% ABV). Is that in line with the classic profile? In general, the traditional styles are lower on alcohol, hence my question.

    • @TrophyWineHunter
      @TrophyWineHunter  Рік тому

      Unus: let me check my bottle at home to see the alcohol content. Didn't seem that alcoholic to me so would be surprised if it was that high. Very balanced.
      By classic, I think the fruit is much more understated but not austere. Medium body with slight greenness. That too me is what the vintages like96 and 98 tasted like young so I am guessing that is what this vintage end up like. Cheers!

      Jonnhy: thank you for viewing my video and your comment. I am glad you agree with my initial assessment. As I said in my video, I think this vintage will firm up a bit in a 3-5 years, which is much different from the typical Bordeaux life cycle. Cheers!

    Great review! I happened to pick a bottle of this about a year ago at Costco (primary motivating factor: the interesting label!), and I think based on what you're noticing with the wine currently and how it will develop, I will wait another 3-4 years until opening it!

    Great review Tony! Very interesting take about the 2019 vintage. I have heard from a few people that the 18 vintage is super high alcohol and modern style that the wines almost start to taste like napa cabs. I personally prefer the classic style.Your review makes me happy that I picked up quite a bit of 19s. Have you tried other 19s? Would love to hear your thoughts.

    Great review. I bought 7 different cases en primeuer Bordeaux 2019 Malescot skt Exupery. Branaire Ducru. Pedeclaux. Phelan segur. Malartic Lagraviere. Laroque and Saintayme. I have tasted all of them. All is great and share the same chatasteristics. As you said very impressive and aproachable with soft tannins yet clearly cabable of long term ageing. A great vintage in my opinion and the wines where all arond 25% percent lower in price than 2018 due to covid. Awesome buys.

    Great review! I saw this one nearby my house and I should try it someday. Could you do a review on “second-wine” of those first growths, like Le Petit Mouton. Cuz wines from first growth are so hard to get and so pricey hah.

      @TrophyWineHunter  Рік тому +1

      Claudius: thank for viewing my video and your comment. Yes, that is a good idea but the second wines of the 1st growths are not that inexpensive either. I have to do one more of the first growths (Margaux) and I will endeavor to start to review some of the 2nd wines of the 1st growths next year. Please like, subscribe and keep watching. Cheers!

    Thanks for the review! Bordeaux premium wines, especially from left bank (all the crus classés basically), are quite austere when they are young but here it seem to be already enjoyable, any tips on how to guess it in advance?

    • @TrophyWineHunter

      rosso: thank you for viewing my video and your question. No way to tell other than to taste yourself. I get some flack for drinking Bordeaux too early but this is the advantage of having a history of tasting early...you can compare between different vintages and extrapolate or have an educated guess as to where the vintage will end up.
      I was surprised by 2019 but this is just my first bottle and initial comments. I might try a few others to see if they have the same taste profile. Cheers!

    I don’t think that it is the case for all the left bank 2019’s.
    I think Margaux is still more fruity and black fruits.
    Don’t you think that Pauillac is always a little more terroir driven?

    • @TrophyWineHunter
      @TrophyWineHunter  Рік тому

      RB: not exactly which point you are speaking about but you are correct, that I probably generalized in my comments as I think this is one of the first 2019s I have tried. But I was surprised by the depth of flavor and really fleshy for a new wine with a lot of depth. Good point about Pauillac. I do plan to do a video on Pauillac soon. Cheers!

      @@rb1084 sorry read your comment incorrectly. By a sleeper vintage, I mean that it is under the radar...that basically the vintage is sleeping in consumer minds but it is really actually a great vintage. Not even sure if I am using the term correctly or I just made it up myself! Also means even though the wine seems to be sleeping, you should watch out as this wine/vintage might awaken and break out to the upside. Cheers!

      @@TrophyWineHunter But aren't the 2018, 2019 and 2020 vintages described as excellent vintages?
      With all three different characters, maybe not perfect but very good.
      So I would expect this to be seen as an interesting vintage by Bordeaux lovers.
      From the vintage reviews I read that 2019 is indeed more classic, with generally less alcohol between 13 and 13.5% compared to 2018 and with less body and structure.
      2019 should be more elegant with nice acidity and purity but also ripe, ripe as it is meant in Bordeaux, not overripe.
      Having said this, shouldn't 2019 receive a lot of attention?

    • @TrophyWineHunter
      @TrophyWineHunter  Рік тому +3

      Jason: thank you for viewing my video and your comment. Yes, I don't think it will be eventually develop into as fruit forward wine as 2018. What I am saying is that Bordeaux wines are trending towards a more fruit forward style but with this vintage, it is more the classic Bordeaux style you would see like 1989, 1990, 1996 and 1998. 2018 to me is more like 2009 in terms of style Even on first taste, 2018 you see a lot more black fruit than 2019. Hope this makes sense. Please like, subscribe and keep watching. Cheers!
