    One of the finest 'keeper' videos on YT! Realistic, filmed well, true action that you can slow down to .05 if you really need to view. Timing is different for everyone, to me your best hitting partner will NEVER hit with a consistency of a ball machine (even that is random) and you'll know when you get in a timing groove. All YT tennis videos to me should never mention all time greats like Nadal etc, they are machines that will practice more 'miles' than many of us will drive in a lifetime. I'm a 4.0, played nearly 48 yrs and still gain insight from these two guys.

Some solid points regarding the atp pros and they’re ability to maintain timing vs. the timing of a weekend warrior, recreational player. We’re in complete agreement. There are so many variables though as far as optimal position on the baseline (height of player, length of backswing, opponents shots location...).
    Shorter players need to be either inside the baseline taking balls early or way back to get the ball in strike zone.
    And my idea of creating space is completely different from what you're saying. I think of creating space your horizontal distance from the ball away from your outside foot

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  5 років тому +1

      A. David Imperial you got it my man, the variables are endless and each individual player will have a particular tendency that may be unique to their game. Creating space off the baseline is just one way of creating time and is most often used at a intermediate level. What your referring to is more advanced but also correct. Creating space in order to find good contact / extension is imperative for optimal performance. Thanks for watching.

    I used to see Agassi practice when he was a kid. The session would always start with a ball machine and him crowding the ball, hitting it on the rise at knee to hip level. Then after a few hundred balls of those on the fh and bh, they would step him back so it would still be on the rise but at shoulder level. Only when those "warm ups" were done did they move him behind the baseline to hit the ball as it was dipping.

    I signed up about a weeks ago and I have been having trouble getting people to play. I don’t know if it’s because of the level I am rated at or if people are just lazy and don’t want to play. So if you can let me know where can I find someone to play against using your PYC app, I would appreciate it. Thanks fellas, by the way I was told that I was a 4.0 to 4.5 level by a few coaches that I play doubles against. But since I have had both my hips replaced, I am working on my footwork and moving my feet. So I personally don’t think I am at a 4.5 level right now, but I would agree that I am a solid 4.0 level because of my knowledge of the game and I have a solid serve, forehand, and quick hands at the net. Thanks again fellas for all that you are doing for the game of tennis!🎾

      Sorry to hear you're having trouble connecting with other players. The number of players available for a particular person in a given area varies quite a bit due to their level of play and the varying levels they are willing to play with. In addition the number is also determined by whether you’re looking for singles or doubles, competitive play or practice, and the region and radius of travel you determine. Perhaps change the parameters of your search in order to connect with more people! Hope you connect with more players soon!

      Thanks for the kind words. Making a living as a tennis coach is certainly not for the faint of heart. There are several things that we incorporated to help with fatigue and managing the body on long, grueling days. They include..1. Orthotics (having the right shoe and insert is crucial for the feet and to help keep limit joint pain. 2. Hydrate and get a good night sleep the night before 3. Change it up..Use hand fed drills to give your hitting hand a break from feeding. A ball machine is even better! 4. Use video analysis (HUGE) not only will this help the student a ton but it will give you time to take a break as you discuss technique 5. Dont be afriad to take breaks! You can only help the student when you are at your best, treating the last lesson like the first of the day requires you to take care of yourself! Really hope these help coach! Go get em! 😊💪

    Can you start 7-8 or more feet behind the baseline? How do you learn anticipation so you can move forward to take time away? When does a player shift into learning an offense?

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  5 років тому

      Jeffrey Look you could certainly play that far behind the baseline much like Nadal does on Clay but you would have to play extremely deep and heavy otherwise you’d loose positioning. With set plays and watching visual queues you can develop the ability to see the opponent is vulnerable and play more offensively on the next ball. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!!

    I love this tip, and try to implement it each time I'm on the court, but it is sometimes tricky to get back after receiving a short serve from an opponent. And my return dictates whether I can approach the net or get stuck in no man's land! Ah well, until I graduate from 3.0 (which may never happen) I will have to learn to adapt. I fall into the same category where I can hit a heavier ground stroke but my serve is still weak especially my second serve, so have to try to anticipate whether my opponent is comfortable at the net or will retreat to the baseline. So much to think about!! Love your videos and think you should come to Canada to do a clinic.

    But standing two or three feet behind baseline lets your opponent hit drop shots and/or short slice angle shots, no?

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  5 років тому +3

      Sam Kanter only if your not hitting with enough depth or pace. If the opponent is crafty and plays with a variety of spin, playing off the baseline will certainly give the opponent an advantage if we’re hitting short. Ideally we’re keeping the opponent off the baseline, neutralizing a short attack. At the end of the day we move much more effectively forward and as long as we’re spotting visual queues of a dropshot we should be ok giving up some space off the baseline. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

    Great tips. Great on-camera personas. Very friendly. Very likable. One friendly suggestion, try cutting down on the amount of time you spend just talking to the camera, describing things, joking around, etc., and have your videos move more quickly into video shots of you actually doing what you're teaching and then add scripted voice-over in video post-production that accurately and concisely describes what you want your online students to learn about while they actually see you doing it on screen. This will make your videos easier to watch (read that as "shorter videos, more to the point") and it will take strong advantage of the video aspect of your videos, which are now, in some parts of your videos, like audio podcasts with you talking to the camera, but not showing much. This is not a criticism, but rather a suggestion for improvement in your video production and hopefully an improvement in the ease of use for your viewers and effectiveness of your video teaching. All the best. Thanks for all you do.
