IF Switch 2 is backwards compatible; I think by default your Switch 1 games will run better on Switch 2, at least from a frame rate perspective/locking in frame rates, but when it comes to alterations to resolution/shadows/lighting/game effects/DLSS and so on, I don't know, I would ASSUME that would be on a game to game bases; Also who knows, MAYBE Nintendo could/would have DLSS as part of the OS/ROM/ it may work, automatically, with games.

This means those games that run at 30-45 FPs on the current Switch; will jump to a stable 60fps and those games that struggle to even hit 30fps will run at a stable 30 fps but with no other visual enhancements. Then there was code that seemed to indicate and upgrade patch that would be implemented by 3rd parties as they saw fit. The would also include 60 fps and visual video upgrades when docked.
I think it will be backwards compatible because they are taking down Switch emulation. Think about it. The Switch is on it's way out. Plus I think not making there new system backwards compatible with there most successfull one is a horrible move.
Sooner or later you will buy the next gen in order to play the new games. I‘d say backwards compatibility is only needed if you can play the old games in better quality. Otherwise just play them on your old switch. Luckily the Switch isn‘t a giant brick like the Playstation, so I wouldn’t mind too much having two of them side by side. Maybe they can even share the same dock.
Looking back, those were good memories I had from Scarlet and Violet but the games felt like a controlling the main character in a huge open, lifeless world most of the time, Sword and Shield was worse, even if it had more stuff than the nintendo 3DS the games felt incomplete and very limited, me and my son might stop playing Pokémon completely if this new ones aren't good, we will just stick to emulators for the memories.

NSP is just the installation container system, the ability to install non-authorized software and run an OS exploit itself goes much beyond that. They won't likely allow the TEGRA chip backdoor through the joycon pins again that's for sure haha, in fact I think it's already patched on newer switches. And the NSPs for Switch 1 and 2 will not be the same if it has higher detailed assets, that's my guess

I recall back when news came out about devs being shown Breath of the Wild behind closed doors at a conference running on Switch 2. It was being shown with graphics enhancements. Would make sense then that not only is the new system backwards compatible, but that it can enhance the old games like the other console pro and current gen models do.
The big leak also indicated 2 versions for a new game that would make me think if you want benefits of new console, you would have to buy a different cartridge
I think there will be enhanced versions that you will have to pay for. I think all physical carts will be able to run on the og switch & the switch 2 will have an optional upgrade for a fee or you can buy the upgraded version of the game digitally for the same price as buying the cart without the upgrade so it would incentivize going digital.

I wouldn‘t even be surprised if Nintendo would do the Playstation and Xbox approach where you can download an enhanced update for supported games from the previous generation for better performance. Some even for a small price (small in the sense of not as much as buying the game completely new again). I‘d say that would be a good compromise where they can still earn a little bit of revenue from older games but there‘s a lot of incentive for consumers too if they don‘t have to buy the entire game again.
To be honest. I am not buying in without backwards compatibility. I am more excited about playing my already purchased games in better resolution and stable FPS like Doom Eternal, Darksiders I-III, Ruined King, Bayonetta 3 or Pokemon Scarlet, than about new games. Without it I am going to play everything new on my Steam Deck and wait for good sales

I don't know much about anything but isn't the NSP just a container where the actual Switch 2 game code inside could be wildly different from Switch 1 game code? Meaning it's not necessarily easy to emulate.
Well pretty much all switch games will automatically be enhanced versions by the fact that the extra power would actually allow them to RUN yes maybe we won't have 60fps patches, but games like Links awakening should be able to go from freezes and extreme dips in the overworld.. to actually running. Likewise maybe we can experience death mountains in Hyrule warriors calamity at more than 8fps. I have a wealth of games when nintendo terminated the application for dumping and made it harder and harder for me to play my legitimately bought games in a way that wasn't miserable I simply stopped buying games or playing... Period. I will likely upgrade to the switch 2, but I have 0 trust that switch 2 games will be any better of an experience than current switch games on the switch, so I will basically be buying the device to be able to PLAY my Switch 1 library. so while it's might be a negative take, YES, the switch 2 will be an enhancement, emulation have proven that yeet more horse power at the games and they will actually run, even if they aren't changed the slightest it is going to be a vastly enhanced experience. I should however clarify that my monitor have motion interpolation technology + AI upscaling so I'm not even concerned about DLSS. but even those things can't save either Hyrule warriors calamity or Links awakening from running aboslutely miserably
Making everything backwards compatible is one of the many reasons that current Gen is struggling. Nintendo needs to stick to the philosophy of what has made them successful.
Backwards compatibility is one of the most important things for the longevity of a console for me. The combined library of more than one console generation also makes the transition to the new generation much easier. You likely won‘t have played every game that interests you for one generation when the next one comes out so why would you make the jump to a new console when you still have a lot to play on the old one? But if you can continue to catch up on your backlog on the new console and even enjoy better performance from it, then that‘s a much better incentive to jump into the new generation right away. Edit: to be clear, with backwards compatibility I specifically mean being able to play previous generation games on the new generation console. Not that you can play „next generation games“ on the previous generation console (which I agree holds the current gen Playstation and especially Xbox with their series S and X requirement for games back).
I don’t understand how Nintendo appeals to adults, considering my first console was the SNES. After the first Playstation was released I never looked back. However, 2 years ago I decided to buy a Nintendo Switch and to be honest it feels more like a gimmick. In my opinion it’s a child’s toy. Ninety percent of the games found in the store are low quality, half baked experiences. I’m not a fan of Breath of the Wild and I have no interest in Tears of the Kingdom. The best games I’ve played on Switch were Ori and Skyrim. I lost interest in Mario Wonder within an hour or so. Needless to say I watch content creators for the hype, but the Switch 2 just doesn’t appeal to me.
Of course there will he hackwards compatibility. And uograde patches. Look at all the "service games" like Fortnite, Overwatch and Apex that run like crap on Switch. Do you really think those games will not exist on Switch 2 on day 1 running more like the PS4 versions? Come on.

Hoping that the next Nintendo system has a good, decent size launch lineup. Cause Switch lacked in that department. I wanna see COD even as a next Nintendo launch title. I think we'll finally see Mario Kart 9. And they should have the Double Bash element to it. I think the next Nintendo system will do with Smash Bros, what Switch did with Mario Kart 8. Thinking we'll get a Smash Bros Ultimate Delux. Games I'd like to see make a come back..Conduit, maybe a Red Steel 3? New Punch-Out!, new F-Zero, a new Mad World would be cool. Maybe new 1080⁰ or Wave Race? Hoping for a No More Heroes 4 too!
I think most people can agree that what consumers want is a more powerful switch, with better joycons , and backwards compatibility. Nintendo gives us that, and they will sell TONS of units.

I don't know much about anything but isn't the NSP just a container where the actual Switch 2 game code inside could be wildly different from Switch 1 game code? Meaning it's not necessarily easy to emulate.

Well pretty much all switch games will automatically be enhanced versions by the fact that the extra power would actually allow them to RUN
yes maybe we won't have 60fps patches, but games like Links awakening should be able to go from freezes and extreme dips in the overworld.. to actually running.
Likewise maybe we can experience death mountains in Hyrule warriors calamity at more than 8fps.
I have a wealth of games when nintendo terminated the application for dumping and made it harder and harder for me to play my legitimately bought games in a way that wasn't miserable I simply stopped buying games or playing... Period.
I will likely upgrade to the switch 2, but I have 0 trust that switch 2 games will be any better of an experience than current switch games on the switch, so I will basically be buying the device to be able to PLAY my Switch 1 library.
so while it's might be a negative take, YES, the switch 2 will be an enhancement, emulation have proven that yeet more horse power at the games and they will actually run, even if they aren't changed the slightest it is going to be a vastly enhanced experience.
I should however clarify that my monitor have motion interpolation technology + AI upscaling so I'm not even concerned about DLSS.

Making everything backwards compatible is one of the many reasons that current Gen is struggling. Nintendo needs to stick to the philosophy of what has made them successful.
Nobody wants to have to buy games over again. They want to be able to play what they already have a new system.
Backward compatibility is a good thing.
Backwards compatibility is one of the most important things for the longevity of a console for me. The combined library of more than one console generation also makes the transition to the new generation much easier. You likely won‘t have played every game that interests you for one generation when the next one comes out so why would you make the jump to a new console when you still have a lot to play on the old one? But if you can continue to catch up on your backlog on the new console and even enjoy better performance from it, then that‘s a much better incentive to jump into the new generation right away.
Edit: to be clear, with backwards compatibility I specifically mean being able to play previous generation games on the new generation console. Not that you can play „next generation games“ on the previous generation console (which I agree holds the current gen Playstation and especially Xbox with their series S and X requirement for games back).

I don’t understand how Nintendo appeals to adults, considering my first console was the SNES. After the first Playstation was released I never looked back. However, 2 years ago I decided to buy a Nintendo Switch and to be honest it feels more like a gimmick. In my opinion it’s a child’s toy. Ninety percent of the games found in the store are low quality, half baked experiences. I’m not a fan of Breath of the Wild and I have no interest in Tears of the Kingdom. The best games I’ve played on Switch were Ori and Skyrim. I lost interest in Mario Wonder within an hour or so. Needless to say I watch content creators for the hype, but the Switch 2 just doesn’t appeal to me.
Of course there will he hackwards compatibility. And uograde patches. Look at all the "service games" like Fortnite, Overwatch and Apex that run like crap on Switch. Do you really think those games will not exist on Switch 2 on day 1 running more like the PS4 versions? Come on.
