I think that is the case of blackpink... Cause other groups have very good solos
I think the system is just too big to change!
But it's not impossible since we already have some exceptions change can happen if both idols and especially fans demand and work together for it.
But here the fans are busy fantasizing and netizens are busy criticisizing for silly things!

It feels so disappointing from going to “you save my life with your music” to “idc abt the music he just fine ash” like we lost the ploottt😞
I just don't see comments like this anymore. During one of the worst phase in my life i remember listening to spring day on loop daily that song gave me comfort and peace. Nowadays its all about chart, views and visuals.
same bts truly saved me from my worst times
BTS' saved me through their music. It was perfect timing when I was going through self esteem issues when they released the Love Yourself albums. Really sad to hear that new Kpop fans would not experience the same thing

i’m not into kpop anymore but all I can see is people NEVER talk about the music, it’s always the looks, the dance, the fashion, and the humor of the groups.
I honestly don't think there's something wrowg about the dance part, but yes, everything now seems to be about looks, visuals, aesthetics, being cute, sexy, tomboy bla bla, it's so boring
I only talk about the music! 😭 But the internet is a dark place
@@Revilpunk “everything now” this video isn’t talking about how it changed but what “kpop” is it was always like this from the start and the purpose of their existence is to fulfill teenagers fantasies, it was never about the music

people who stan svt:
we can literally see it with seunghan... bullying him out of riize because of his dating past - HIS PRIVATE LIFE - truly shows that this isn't about music. you usually don't care about who a musician is dating (as long as it's ethical and consensual) but many Kpop fans make those idols apologize for having their own life. I've been listening to Stray Kids since pre-debut but I don't even engage in fandom activities for them anymore because it's so jarring.
Omg yes, i hated this sh!t for years, but just realised.
Personally for me, the fandom and the type of music KPOP idols make is turning me off. I don't even interact or stan like I used too, and it makes me sad.
The Seunghan situation breaks my heart, the group suffered so many damages from it and the bullying Seunghan faced was enormous, SM really flopped with the decision of putting him out of riize
good to know you woke up. KPOP was never about music. It always has been aesthetic and marketing.
Bffr "fans" don't think, they don't think of what the idols are going trough, nor of what they have gave us.
That’s why I’ve been telling my friends lately kpop feels like a sport, it’s not about the quality of the music it’s about who’s trending, who’s making the most money, who’s from the biggest company, etc. The music also feels so empty, just the same recycled concepts with the same beats about love or confidence. So many fandoms force toxic positivity too, like I can’t even say I don’t like a song without being accused of the worst. I’ve been falling out of love with kpop because I just don’t like how all of this has gotten so much worse with time and just how abusive the whole industry is.
Listen to metal it's way more versatile
And yeah you the same person listening to Doja cat songs 90% about seggs 😂
I agree with all of this. That’s why after middle school I stopped listening to kpop for like 3 years cuz the music just felt empty and the idols feel like products of a company instead of artists. And I know they worked so hard to get where they are and work hard in the group and are super talented but it never feels like the music is genuine. The music always feels like there is no substance for some reason. I got back into kpop partially for 2024 and now I just listen to kpop songs that sound good and catchy but I don’t usually listen to albums and take the music seriously cuz it never truly feels serious😅
it’s the artists too, some if not of them sign up on auditions for fame and prestige, yk just the idea of being an idol but not the music essence of it. There’s a few of them who bothers making or writing music, some just letting the company decide who writes and do chereo for them, they’re like placeholders only. You don’t have to be the best at writing music but like at least learn how to make one or the theory of it.
@@nightwishisthegreatestband6355 A lot of people can't stand metal, myself included. It just seems so try-hard and gimmicky. There are other versatile genres of music that aren't nearly as annoying.
It's so crazy whenever I see kpop fans basically say "They don't need to be the best at singing and dancing or rapping as long as they have the charm and personality" and then get angry when people don't take kpop seriously
I remember this used to be the biggest point of contention during produce 48. Japanese idols were trained only to “charm and entertain” so they pretty much couldn’t sing and could barely dance, some Korean trainees would feel it was unfair, but now how’s kpop any different?
If this was an ideal world, kpop idols would be both skilled and also have a strong persona. I've comed to the realization years ago that my favorite idols are most of the times lacking in some areas but they feel like a mental trap that pushes me in. In other words, I'm completely aware of the fact many of them are far from the greatness real artists have (and I wish they had it because I love that), but I still feel engaged with them in a stupid manner.
(I'm sorry you have to read about my mental garbage, have a nice day 👍🏻)

The problem is the kpop fans demand are not about authenticity but about fitting their agenda. When I met my best friend's sister and I discovered that she was also a kpop fan so naturally I asked her what were her favorite groups ecc but when I asked her why she liked a specific group or idol she'd answer "They are pretty" or "They're my tipe" or "I like their personalities"
I had various encounters with kpop fans like this
It's never about talent or artistry
That isn't true. I am American and grew up listening to Western pop and rock and hip hop. I still listen to those things and other genres but I've added a few k-pop groups as well. I discovered Stray Kids just this year and while I find them engaging and interesting as people it's their songs that I appreciate the most. If I hadn't appreciated that songs and music I would not have kept following them. I have also enjoyed some of Red Velvet's songs. So maybe I am not the typical fan but I've seen comments from any other people like me. For me Stray Kids bring something new very different from the Western singers and rappers I'm used to.

I do think kpop idols can break free from this mold, as long as they understand the risk involved in it and are willing to take it. Rosé, for example, released her solo album. she herself said it was the first time she was taking the front in making her own music. so songwriting, directing etc.
at first fans were really excited, but when her solo album didnt sound like her previous songs or had that BP feeling, some people quickly said it was underwhelming and all the songs sounded like eachother, even tho she sings live and is passionate...
my point is that many fans say that they want the idols to be artistically free, but dont want to give them time to grow and find their sound or even experiment different styles, and reject their attempts to do so. me personally, i really liked her album, i dont really listen to blackpink anymore, but i wanted to check out her songs because she was involved in the songwriting and general production of the whole thing.
is the best album i ever heard? no, but its really good and its HERS.
and i think she was aware that there is the risk of being criticized after taking a more personal stance with her music.
with time her skills will develop, but she, and any other idol that wants to be a musician, had to start somewhere and that in my opinion is already a lot.
i loved this video, thank you for your point of view!
Totally agreed. I felt respect for Rose. She really took the courage to do what she wanted. I hope it will get better.

They are "actors". They are filling roles. The script (lyrics and chorography) was made long before they got there. They just fit the look that they are looking for.
Kpop is a sub culture in the west and the “kpop idol” was never meant to be for “music” theres a reason why people don’t take it seriously.
I recently epressed my opinion saying that I don't know why the concept of "visuals" is even a thing. I understand why it's happening, I just don't know how we as fans accept the "visual and aesthetics thing" as criteria to be fans of an artist. How can these things matter to people as much as the actual abilities required to be a musical artist? I got downvoted, people started explaining to me that K-pop is about visuals but I never argued about that. I know how it works and why it works, my criticism is towards the companies who push the idea that visuals are a huge deal and towards us fans who just accept this shallow criterion which turns the attention away from the artistic aspect of things.
that bothers me so much. I see visuals as a way to appreciate the producers and creative directors behind the group, but I'm not putting any of that praise to the group itself. I find the concept of 'visuals' a bit baffling as well, especially when the music has no substance to it.
kpop is all about it now
@@machinelearner108 This.
People like to see someone who is beautiful, talented and has a good personality.
just a perfect person
That's because in korea people appreciate beauty over talent and hardwork, and even if it is a country with really talented people, at every job a person with natural beauty is more appreciated that those who are not. So i can understand that this make noise at the western because we don't have that level of obsession with that topic, but that's what have been working for them since the begining of the entertainment industry in that country. And even now everytime an unknown group become popular is mostly for the visual member, they attrack brands and that's what pay this idols work, more than concerts.
I have been saying this, you can't put artists like BTS, Rose,SKZ, Soyeon and many more in the same parameters as any other kpop idols who get their comebacks served on a plate. I once said this before and triggered a lot of fandoms. It's similar to what Nicki Minaj once said, if you don't write your raps you are still a rapper but you won't be respeced like one.🤷♀
i have seen that !! dont worry the facts always trigger somebody
Soyeon has also said that. I immediately thought of her when I saw the title of this video.
its interesting how everyone mentions Rose when just a year ago people were calling ALL blackpink members not true artists due to not writing. I feel like its the same case for many idols out there. Being held back by their companies. So happy Rose can finally be free, cant wait for more idols to get there too
@roline.c That’s because her latest solo projects have really proved everyone wrong. What last year seemed like laziness and unwillingness to perform now makes sense as her not being in the right element of performance and right part of the music industry. You could also make a commentary on how kpop stans are quick to assume the worst and create a hate train with little to no support behind the claims because of this, if that’s how you see it. I find it very interesting and honestly quite cool how she was able to prove everyone wrong with just one solo release.
Well, they aren't completely wrong tho. Lisa has a great stage presence and raps pretty good, but she isn't artistic like Rose is and Jisso is the same too.
I have never seen people call Rose untalented tho. @@roline.c

imo, if an idol doesn't have any control over the creative process, and remains an idol as opposed to a "true musician", i'm okay with that. my issue arises when i see an idol who is clearly CAPABLE of doing more and seems to want to do so, but is unable to because of how the industry is.
this!!
Right
LITERALLY
REAL
The industry will not allow It to idols who have talent for writing or producing. And not, BTS is very controlated by their company
the most truthful video out here.
earlier i couldn't understand why blackpink are so inactive as a group and it kinda frustrated me. but after having watched rose's recent interview when she said that each of them is free now to do whatever they want my eyes were opened. they left kpop globally and they enjoy what they do now. still they can come bcak whenever they want. kpop demands an artist to be active all the time and it's "unacceptable" when they do something "on the side". there is no time for you to rest. i remember when bts were leaving for army and they prepared a ton of content to release while they're gone. it's so precious but do people realise how overworked they must have been to prepare content for 2,5 years ahead? when jin came back he dove into work immediately as well. idols are expected to work, to sell, to show, to perform, to visit, to do. just do anything endlessly. one of the reasons why i absolutely lost my respect for the industry.
i saw a lot of comments about jisoo's acting career where people were annoyed that she is into acting rather than releasing an album 'cause "she is an idol before all". she was an idol for some period of her life but maybe this period is over? people just can't take it, that's why they don't let her do what she really likes. in kpop, if you became an idol you should remain it till the end.
Very true. While BTS was away I was shocked with the amount of content that was produced given the fact they were technically on “hiatus”. I genuinely thought they might have a chance to rest from the music industry but that didn’t really seem to happen. Like you said there seems to be a certain pressure to constantly be releasing music to be the next trend out there.
In regards to Jisoo, I genuinely believe she always wanted to be an actor more than she wanted to sing so if she wants to do that more now that Blackpink is less active, I think fans should leave her to do that rather than criticising her for no reason.
Yk what the funny thing is I've been a kpop stan since 2015 and I've been hearing "kpop is not about music *anymore* " since day 1 😂 makes you wonder if it ever was about music
However I agree that the music quality has actually severely degraded since the end of 3rd gen especially with boygroups and idols are always doing way too many things to the point it's overwhelming
por eso la segunda generacion es fantastica
Same. Been a kpop fan since 2015 and never once did I think kpop was about the music. It was more about the synchronized dancing, charismatic stages and the visuals for me. ❤
If I wanted to listen to good music I would switch to korean indie music scene like hyukoh.
it's bc it was never about music. I can even say now it has become better in that regard bc more idols get involved in the music compared to the past
Shout out to BTS because all their songs (or the vast majority) since predebut have been written by at least one of the members, with many also produced by them. Yoongi has even produced for other artists like IU and PSY, and he went on tour performing songs entirely written and produced by him, while also playing piano and guitar during his concerts. Namjoon has also written for other artists like TXT and has done countless collaborations.
They released music written by themselves even when they couldn’t monetize as solo artists (such as mixtapes and SoundCloud songs).
For the album BE, they were fully in charge of the production.
I always take the opportunity to recommend their music.
Their individual works have also been incredible, with all of them actively participating in their albums. This is why all the solo albums are so different from each other; each member has their own style and taste in music genres.
Special mention to the rap line, who have written all their songs and are the most experienced in songwriting.
They pour their heart and dedication into their music, and every day they keep learning-a huge inspiration for me.♡

I'm a Bigbang fan and I don't think the next gens lack talented ppl. SKZ 3racha, Ateez, Treasure's rapline, G-idle, Kiss of Life, XG, BND... Etc. in 3rd gen there was Zico, BI, BTS, SVT, Mamamoo. And even when the idols don't write, you get groups like Aespa that sing sing and the blueprint vocal lines like EXO. No one can like ALL the music their faves makes but all the idols I mentioned served good music and solid pieces of work with a lot of artistic input and overall albums with replay value. I think we just choose not to focus on the solid pieces of work for these idols (the title track is just there to get you engaged for most of them) or we just perpetuate this idea that new K-pop = visuals and empty tunes. It's not true. But yeah ofc like older gens, there are groups that mainly depend on visuals and dance.
As another Bigbang fan, I completely second this.

Most K-pop idols are performers/ influencers. Calling them all artists is injustice to true artists among them.
Performers are also,artists
@@karinchu-l3d There is a reason that these two words exist independently, a performer can never be an artist but an artist is always a performer. You said it all, really. I grew up listening to pop, rock and when I was 8 years old I discovered K-pop, it was love at first sight. But now, older and more mature, I realize how much music is losing it's meaning and purpose. it is no longer a way to express yourself or defend something, to show who you are. but rather, now it seems more like a way to sell your image with dances that are easy to fit into the video and then post on social media. the worst of all is that what caused all this was tiktok and other socials! today you no longer find songs that are 3, 4 and 5 minutes long! everything is now less than 2 minutes long, with a repetitive chorus and weak rhythm. what really keeps me going is Stray Kids. 3racha, for me, is what's saving me. I can count on them as true musicians and composers, and I'm very proud of them for that. now, about another artist that I admire, it's definitely Rosé. this woman is going to change and destroy this chaotic industry. Yea I feel like that’s why I kinda I don’t wanna say outgrew kpop but that’s the best way to put it. I still occasionally like a song but it’s nowhere near where it was when I was in highschool.. I was looking at my Apple replays for every year since 2017. Which is also when I got into kpop, and 2017-2019 my entire top 100 were pretty much all kpop. By 2020 which was my second and third semester of college there were no kpop songs that cracked my top 10. And fast forward to now I think only three kpop songs cracked my top 100 songs. I transitioned back to mostly western music, and most of the music I listen to, the artists have almost complete control of their work. I now listen to mostly alternative, hip hop, pop, rock and a little bit of rnb.
I also just could no longer keep up with the fast pace nature of kpop. When I got into it that’s what made me like it. But now it’s actually the reason I like it less. I love a complete album era, like a year long one, a year and a half. I love an era, a complete body of work given the time to breathe and grow for an entire year from the first single, and the second and third coming out over the span of a few months, the album drop, the tour. I appreciate that more now as I get older.
Can you suggest some songs you listen to lately
@ yea sure. So right now I listen to a lot of different things so I’ll give different genres.
I recently got into rock this year for the first time, so the songs I like are usually the band’s most popular songs but:
Soul Kitchen by the Doors
Light my fire by the doors
Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix
Smells like Teen spirit by Nirvana
Lithium by Nirvana
Gold dust woman by Fleetwood Mac
The Chain by Fleetwood Mac
Immigrant song by Led Zeppelin
Outside of rock. I listen to a lot of alternative music. I fell back in love with Lana del Rey’s earlier work, which was an artist I was obsessed with ten years ago in middle school. Not a song but I recommend her album “Ultraviolence” that’s one of my fav albums since it came out. But born to die both standard and her paradise version are also good.
Also not a song but Beyoncé is my most listen to artist. I recommend her album “Renaissance” if you like dance and house music. It’s an album that’s best experienced listening to whole than just the singles. And if you like more introspective work I highly recommend her album “Lemonade”.
Lastly in terms of specific artists I listen to a lot of The Weeknd earlier work. Anything on house of balloons is great but I recommend the songs “The Morning” and “Wicked Games”
And since this is a video on kpop, the two Kpop songs I actually caught and really like are Supernova and Armageddon by Aespa.
And some other random songs:
Wicked game by Chris Isaak
Closer by Nine inch Nails
White mustang by Lana del Rey
Time has come today by the Chamber brothers
Diet Pepsi by Addison Rae
New person, same old mistakes by Tame Impala
The night has opened my eyes by the smiths

And I totally relate to going back to previously beloved artists. I recently attended a tribute concert to Metallica in my town. Earlier, I had only one song, Master of Puppets in my playlist, but now I've been adding more Metallica songs.
I absolutely love rock. So excited to add these songs to my playlist and check out all the others as well!!

I absolutely love bts' discography and lyricism. heavy on the lyricism. and rapline's solo albums were excellent. I love all of their music with all my heart, but I will always stan bts' artistry with my heart.
what makes me even more proud is how they recognise this. namjoon mentioned how he felt conflicted by the success if theur english songs because while they were goid, they didn't represent bts' message.
a great video overall. bts has excellent dancers and presence too. they've also always got their mics ON.

The best way to change this industry is to:
1- give rest to the artists: so many artists are so overworked it is unbelievable!!! Take txt and enhypen for example
txt had to take a long hiatus due to their health conditions, while enhypen have had no break for the past 2 years and are barely making it through their schedule
2- Treat them as humans: Often we as fans see them as literal "idols" which is so wrong since they are humans with flaws and not objects to be worshipped
I know that they are called idols but that doesn't mean that you should treat them as that in the literal sense
An example would seunghan from riize. After people found out about his past relationship, they started giving him death threats and treating him as an unworthy object since he doesn't fit the mold of the image they had in mind of him.
3- Better training: The artists in industry are talented in many ways, but often it is very surface level
4- More involvement in their craft: The artists need to at least give some effort into producing their craft even if it is in baby steps and the companies need to allow their artists to do that
5- Allowing room for constructive criticism: I know it's hard to criticise your fav and I also need to work on it
But at the end of the day in order to make a change, it is important to point out the flaws of our favorite artists
I like that you said they are not music artist ANYMORE. Before the BTS breakthrough in the western world, 2nd generation and early 3rd generation are full of TRUE musicians, (did underground) rappers and dancers. They didn't only perform to be 'perfect' but has TIME and SPACE to challenge the system. They live sing and do choreography not as hard as today, but pretty much a lot of jumping, breakdancing, popping etc. It's SAD to see Kpop now is all about more and more money with less and less time too produce GOOD QUALITY music or other content. It's not even 'real' anymore. For example dance practice video use to be the behind the scene practices of the idols with crazy/normal daily outfits. Now their is NO ROOM for mistake. Practice videos became Performance video. Not all fans want to see the 'Full on Fake' perfection, but the companies and different markets 'forced' the new generation to consume and believe in being perfect with NO flaws. Which is truly impossible.
I feel like part of it is because Korea population is dwindling. They have a short time span to export their soft culture, which results in the immense pressure to perform and make profits.
That's why I stan BTS. They produce and write their own songs(most of them).THEY ARE THE REAL MUSICIANS.

All members of the group have had a hand in songwriting since the group's debut, most frequently RM, Suga, and J-Hope. (RM has recent writing credits on both "Black Swan" and "Butter.")
The group has also outsourced to fellow pop stars including Ed Sheeran, who is credited on "Permission to Dance" and "Make It Right," and Troye Sivan, who co-wrote "Louder Than Bombs" a cut from Map of the Soul: 7. I got flamed when I commented on a reel saying that Kpop is about the music and that’s what should matter. So many fans don’t want musicians, they want models that make TikToks.
This is why in these competition shows for new idols, the ones with 0 talent but 100% visuals always win..because companies can train them to be better at singing, but the visuals is what will sell
rosé is one of the best musician to come out of kpop. I was surprised to see how her sound is so different from the typical music that blackpink makes and it suits her! she co-wrote, composed, directed and participated actively in the whole production of her album. Kudos to her
I think it's because she was grew up in Australia and inspired by many western artists who is true musician...so when she get out from the k-pop mold and sign with western label she has freedom to do so.
But the fact that when she wrote her first solo, Gone, all by herself, she was so heavily mistreated and disrespected by her company… now she broke free and proves herself, but in my opinion she already did back then. She explaines how much she worked on these songs and when you listen to Gone, you really get immersed by emotions. I am so sad she didn’t get the recognition she deserved back then..
@Trueffelstirn Yes! From the time I listened to Gone, I could see that her future solo releases would do well because it felt like we were seeing an authentic side to her music. Can’t wait to hear what she makes next!
for me is crazy how people forget chaeyoung. she has such a unique artistry and vision, you can see it in all songs she wrote/compose. she actually connects with her music, one of my fav songs that she composed and wrote is my guitar, a special song she made to perform in the world tour. sigh. she's still overlooked from everyone because jype doesn't let her shine. i wish jype let twice to actually do something.
also, why are people sleeping on jihyo? she literally wrote / composed every single song on her solo album. it's crazy how people ignore or hate twice to the point to label them as simply "performers" when they have got a lot of potential.

I agree on almost everything, just wanted to point at the musician definition you gave.
If in order to be a musician you have to be in control of YOUR music and lyrics, then what are people who play instruments flawlessly but don't have music of their own? I think we should make the difference there because the group of people I described are musicians too, and very talented ones some times, but what you pointed there in your definition is the work of a composer. Also, I think is obvious to say that voice is an instrument too and a very tedious and hard one, so from that perspective I would defend that Idols are musicians (with some exceptions, of course) but leaving that topic behind, you spoke truth when it comes to the part Idols play on K-Pop, the marketing behind it, problematics involving the consumers and how music ends up being a media to profit instead of art.
Good video!
Great video. It is interesting I came across your video today, cause i was in a kpop server the other day, and one of the comments that left me baffled, is one bashing RM and Suga, saying they are fake "deep" for making music with serious topics all the time, saying they should take a chill pill and just produce fun pop songs (which is not a bad thing). And the kpop community there actually agree with that sentiment. I left that server because i realize the fans there simply do not have any appreciation for authenticity in music like I do, and view idols in skewed way as their entertainment, not true musician. Its ok to prefer fun pop songs, but if you start to bash idols for release authentic music to their experience and thoughts? Dont complain when your fav idols and kpop as a whole will never be taken seriously as true musicians, compared to the ones you are bashing then.
you said a great thing and thank youu for the feedback
BTS, Soyeon, Bangchan, Woozi, Yunjin(lsfm)...These are the only people who comes to my mind when I talk about true musicians in Kpop. They KNOW the pen game.

I would say for women is harder especially when they live in a conservative country such as Korea. Women empowerment is always a judged concept. Idols cannot talk about their beliefs, relationships, views and struggles so I don't know what y'all are expecting. The moment an idol is confirmed dating or smoking you jump on them so I don't understand how do you want true artists when they are not allowed to talk freely

kpop idols were never musicians to begin with. just products. there are very few cases where members of kpop groups produce their own songs. that's it.
That's why I like Ateez, they have members that are a huge part of their work and are encouraged to learn and try, they said they are ready to fail experimenting cause even tho they wanna do well they enjoy what they do and want to change. I think they can do that cause their fandom allow them to do so and they earned their trust. They are part of the industry but maybe cause the same industry didn't give them so many chances they had to be creative and find other ways to grow. The more you watch the way they work behind the scenes the more you see them being part of what they perform. Maybe still bound to company but for sure they are not discouraged to be part of the process and show their personal colors. So it is manufactured or I would say was in the past, but I don't think it is anymore, they are always growing and evolving.

i've been noticing this ever since it became mandatory to have a tiktok choreo and record challenges w/ other idols. (which more often feels like it's purely marketing rather then wholesome moments between idols, w/ some exceptions ofc), but also the fact that almost *everything* is mainly about buildng up a certain image by focusing heavily on appearance/weight and most importantly, how they behave, limiting what they are allowed to talk about/interact with and how much fanservice points or viral moments they got. *meanwhile* they give them the bare minimum of singing lessons, and only choose style/concept & music genre based on what's trending, and managements often get ahead of themselves, believing that hopping onto a train is enough to be sellable product, therefore they see no reason to put any effort into the producing & writing or choosing what style would actually fit their idols. when in reality: if your music is very much based on vocals (unlike artists who's main priority is instrumentals, good example are Perfume and DaftPunk, groups like them can get away w/ not having high vocals skills due to that reason) then you SHOULD have higher vocal skills as well, yes, even if you're not main vocal, and should be coming first, dancing only coming second since when we listen to their songs we can't see them dancing nor will care about that. and i also wish they would allow idols to be more authentic, choose who they make tiktoks with, put their own hearts into the lyrics, choose their own concepts & genre, interact with fans without pretending they are in love with all of them despite of being strangers, dating who they want to, not having to worry about weight or being encouraged to get work done and have the freedom to explore & develope their talents and potentials!
Some kpop idols can write and produce song. Woozi from Seventeen have award as best producer for his group. Suga from BTS have an award as best producer for Suran a soloist. Only BTS in kpop who have a gut to write lyric about critics social phenomenon, politic, and education system. When BTS wrote about mental health, many kpop idols followed.
As an ex-K-pop fan, I’ve come to realize how toxic and shallow parts of the fan culture have become. Some fans treat idols like objects, obsessing over their looks and completely neglecting their basic human needs and well-being. What’s worse is how some fans can’t handle even the slightest criticism. They fail to understand that not everyone shares the same views or needs to ‘stan’ a specific group, and instead of respecting opinions, they attack anyone who thinks differently. On top of that, K-pop groups nowadays seem to care more about appearances, charting, and brand deals than the actual music. It feels like the artistry and passion that made K-pop special in the first place have been replaced with a hollow focus on trends and commercial success. It’s sad to see an industry and fan culture that once had so much potential turn into something so toxic and superficial. 😬
Rm from bts has a crazy musical discovery his songs are great specifically not for the algorithm
The sad part, idol Like RM are not much appreciated In the industry and among the so called kpop Stans. He is the only kpop star who isn’t making TikTok songs but real music. Not selling his albums with cute selfie photocards or crazy album designs. most of his last album barely had selfie Pcs. He even avoided crazy fan service during indigo like video calls or fan meetings.
His last album RPWP concept he barely had any makeup on. He literally said that how he don’t want sign a luxury brand deal because he doesn’t feel like it. The best part unlike other idols most of BTS members mostly RM doesn’t act like they are the most perfect human beings. They except their flaws and work on them.
Kim Namjoon or RM from BTS deserves all the praise, he's truly an artist and has been around producing some great works. Do check his albums out mates!!

As an old kpop fan i really miss 2012-2018 era where people were actually talented and music was not generic
thank you for saying this. Ive been trying to explain this for FOREVER and you did it so well.
i’m glad bts, which is my one of my ults, can actually produce good music and not just base it around tiktok.
Many kpop idol songs often follow a certain formula, like some lyrics will repeat a lot to create a catchy melody but their meaning is always empty and meaningless. I feel like their songs always have a familiar melody and style, the similarity between songs of this or that idol group is emphasized. Meanwhile, mainstream US-UK artists have their own meaningful lyrics and implications in the songs they compose and produce, of course, these songs do not only attract the audience with the meaning, the artist's musical style and it is always different and unique. It is true that people who like kpop want to look at beautiful girls and boys more than listen to music
I watched this video, and I gotta say, I’m not really a K-poper. K-pop music isn’t exactly my favorite, but I do listen to some older, banger songs. I’m actually an ARMY and follow all BTS news and music. I’ve been an ARMY since 2018, so I’ve experienced both their group and solo eras.
To sum it up, I can honestly say I’ve felt the change in BTS.
Don’t get me wrong-it’s not a negative change. What I mean is, they’ve truly grown and finally get to show the style they really want. Real rap isn’t that big in Korea, but RM totally killed it with his RPWP album. Maybe it wasn’t huge in Korea, but it got tons of love worldwide. J-Hope’s Jack in the Box was just as impressive, and let’s not forget Yoongi who keeps calling out the industry and its people every single time.
The BTS vocalists have also shown their true colors and proved they can shine on their own while getting credit for their work.
BTS’s growth and talent are what keep me listening to their music to this day.
I’ve never been a fan of BLACKPINK, but honestly, I’ve got to admit that Rosé’s solo album is really good. In my opinion, she’s had the best solo work among the members so far, and I hope she keeps it up.
So yeah…
They never were real musicians. The industry has always been about selling a fantasy and providing escapism. Idols are the original E-Girls/Boys. This is how it's always been
You literally cant deny how hugely michael jackson has impacted kpop, pop music today as well. Kpop dance, music videos and fashion, fashion heavily.
i was not kpop stan until 2019, it was bts, i tried to stan other groups, but it just doesn’t hit. bts actually make music that doesn’t just sound the same for every album.

Let’s be honest, most of the idols didn’t join the industry to be artists.
They wanted to be idolized.
They agreed to pay the price.
They got what they wanted.
They knew what they were getting into.
So…it is what it is.
Gone are the glory days of the 1st to 2nd gen, or even the 3rd gen when life was simpler and talents really shown.

Although taehyung is supposed to be greatest artists of bts members by fanbase now i can only realize his contribution to the group is basically his looks along with jungkook.
Oh finally it was said out loud what I was thinking for last few years about k-pop.
3rd gen is atleast still passionate about music and creating their own music. Groups like BTS and idols like Rm,Suga and Jhope have written almost more than half of their discography. Along with that even their choreography was done by Jhope. Not only these 3 but all of the members have atleast done some contribution in creating their music. The ones I can proudly label as “True musicians" they never cared much about brand deals , Social media , Streams etc. They are only here for their music , passion and their fans.

RM, Suga, Woozi, Rosé, Soyeon, Bangchan, Han, Changbin are my known ones who make actual Music.

I think you're right overall, but it's also a Chicken/Egg argument. Idols need to achieve a level of popularity so that the fans are willing to give the idols a shot at their own musicianship. Rose was able to build her fandom because she was successful in Blackpink then transfer that to her own works. (G)I-dle went straight to musicianship because their agency screwed up and was left with no choice but to accept Soyeon's "Latata" to debut with. I'd argue that Idle changed the game by showing idols could create their own hit music and made this extra points for any that did, so that agencies are now more willing to give idols input on their songs and at least tolerate if not encourage idols taking a stab at songwriting/producing. It will be interesting to see how YG handles Babymonster since the lack of creative freedom was the sticking point that drove the Pinks out of YG for individual projects. Baemon's members are still young but I can't believe with a seven-member group, at least two or three of them aren't working on their own songs and will eventually say "I want to do this."
Nothing is going to change, overall, though, if the first instinct of companies is to assign songs and concepts to idol group members instead of letting them cultivate their flow. I mean, even Got7's Jackson tried for a long time to get his music to be accepted but it was only ever denied, if I remember correctly.
It just seems like, as said in the video, companies don't respect their artists artistically, and rather views them as products they can exploit to gain wider popularity, until things happen that probably leave them with no choice but to rely on their artists. There has to be a desire installed in the Kpop system to want to see artists grow into their own, musically speaking, and to pave their own paths.
(g)-idle wasn’t really the first group to do this so I don’t think it changed the game. I do think it did for the girl groups but I’d argue the earliest examples of this is probably BigBang. Funny enough similar story, except YG did have songs but it wasn’t hitting with the public so gdragon tried his hand and with him and teddy coming in, and that’s what made them famous was like the first inkling of this. But it didn’t really trickle down for a while. It does help that like soyeon, gd and top were actual rappers, with top especially being an underground rapper. Same can be said for RM of bts, or bang Chang and the other rappers in stray kids and B.I when he was in ikon. Or LE in Exid. The common thread being when companies actually scout a rapper and not just scout someone and put them in the “rapper” position bc their voice as a singer isn’t as strong, they actually end up scouting musicians, bc by default rap as an art form is equal parts writing and performance. Maybe even more writing than performance, so the artist bone is already there by the time they debut. And then when the company doesn’t know what to do with their group, in all the cases above, these rappers can swoop in pretty quickly bc they’ve been writing the entire time.
@@chichilafemme6336 Good point about the rappers.
Sorry but that's not true. RM literally did a whole mixtape about how he wanted to be seen as an artist more than anything else , 2 to 3 years into his career, when BTS where still nugu. It's not about how famous you are. It's just about how much risk you wanna put into it to make it happen
Thank you so much for putting this out. I hate it when their minions- I mean fans think of their idols as these perfect divine beings. Again, I can name names but I'll get hate but there are SO MANY kpop idols or ex-idols who are very famous today but don't deserve it.
Rosé is totally the opposite. Her album rosie was written by herself, participated actively in the production, filming and composition of each song. Even directed one of her MVS, Number One Girl. She was recognized by the Grammys even
I'd also like to mention SOYEON of (G)I-DLE and ROSÉ from BLACKPINK who are capable of producing, writing and composing songs by their own and their talents like singing, dancing, rapping are undeniably AWESOME. Rosé can even play various instruments like piano, guitar, etc. her new album ROSIE features 13 tracks that are written and produced mostly by herself. Talking about SOYEON, she's an ACE in each and every category.
I've definitely been thinking about this for a long time and it felt really good to find someone who agreed with me. In short, my friend, it's enough to say this: "If you can't sing, you're not an idol, if you can't making a song, you're not an artist" That's all.

This has always been what I felt, which was why I was so into GD and BTS back in the days. These days, like you said, there are some exceptions. But it's not enough for them to grow into true musician because in the end, they're still stuck in the industry. I can handpick idols who are known as true great vocalists, but the demand for great live singers are... as you said, scarce. I believe everything that relates to the industry (K-pop as a whole) is at problem here. And once one party realises and makes a step, I doubt there will be any change in the near future. same- the reason why I like lesserafim is only really because of Chaewon and Yunjin. They are far more engrossed in music than the other three. Chaewon is constantly putting out covers and Yunjin (whilst still young in her production) has obviously great interest in producing. I feel bad for the two, they are both decent singers but because of (esp Sakura) they are discredited. This is the case with many kpop groups (e.g. blackpink with Rose vs the rest) where there are one or two members who are more concerned with the music vs the rest of the group members who are more concerned with fame and money.
i think only rosé, bangchan, BTS and soyeon (gidle) mainly are the ones who are capable to write and produce their own songs. Jimin is the vocal line members, who has the most writing, composing, producing and choreographing credits, every single member of BTS are all rounded musicians and artists.
All members have composed and produced songs
Bro. No it's only RM Suga and Jhope, others just write lines which isn't even comfrimed 😂
@@PINK_BLINK_ERA Everyone has composed, the vocalists mainly compose their own songs. Don't say things you don't know, because every time the Vocal Line composed or helped with a BTS song it is listed in the song credits.
your definition of idol is so on point and so real imo, i feel like kpop industry (specially nowadays) is just looking to be 'trendsetters' or influencers; and not to be a hater but they are creating awful, americanized and commercial music hoping they can set a trend on tiktok or something to have some numbers. and their fanbase.. girl even a 'stan' being a thing is so sick to me
BTS a true musicians,all of them ❤🔥
I am in kpop just for BTS ,if they ended I will end up too

This is why Seventeen is my fav among the sea of groups after 2gen bigbang and shinee (who had so much control over their craft) 🤍
Great video. Very insightful. Hopefully one day the industry takes a drastic turn and becomes more focused on the artistry. Can't wait for another video.
thank youu for your kind feedback and I hope so too!
Most kpop songs sound SOOO factory made. Literally same annoying beats and vocals. Like if you genuinely ask me to differentiate between those basic ahh songs, I won't be able to. It's clear kpop is a factory which churns out easy to listen, generic music.
1gen of kpop = it's the simple visual+talent.
2nd gen of kpop = pretty much the same but the fanservice became one of the main ingredients. This gen had one exception(bigbang).
3rd gen of kpop = 50/50. Half stayed loyal to visual+talent+fanservice formula and the other half got influenced by BB success and started to add a little bit of individuality, unfortunately slowly but surely talent started to matter less for both cases.
4th gen of kpop = they didn't like the individuality and completely embraced the good ol' visual+talent+fanservice concept, except soon enough the talent left the chat.
