Thanks for another great video. Great to see videos showing that one does not need expensive equipment to do testing. I'm also looking forward to the P-Loop video after the snow melts.
Thanks Dave, we appreciate your very informative productions. Got my BITX-40 a few weeks ago, and waiting for "spark" to start assembling. '73 Bob N7ISU
Thanks Dave, I just received my Bitx-40 today and look forward to putting it together. but first going to review both yours and Randy's videos on it. Mahalo for all your informative videos and I enjoy seeing you on W5kub's shows. 73 and Aloha!
P.S. I'm most interested in the MFJ loop. I'm using a Pixel receive only loop here. I use an attic dipole for transmit. I can't use the attic dipole for receive because the noise is a constant S 9. The Pixel loop allows me to hear, but the sensitivity is way down. Looking forward to your reports on the MFJ loop. '73 Bob N7ISU
VK3YE made a modification to make the audio more "punchy" by moving the carrier. This was done in the "pre" arduino version, but the modification might be the same. You might check out his videos.
I didn't dig in much. It's a very inexpensive microphone that's not in any housing. People tell me on the air it's quite intelligible, but my recordings sound awful! It seems good enough for purpose.
I just received my Bitx in the mail the other day. As soon as I saw the mic I'm thinking of getting a connector to allow me to plug in my Mic I have for my Kenwood into it. I'd be anxious if someone else did something similar. That way you're using the same kind of mic for the comparison.
Thank you for the demo test. great videos you have been making. One note. Can you please turn off the Auto Focus on the cam. It hurts the eyes as it is trying to focus when you move your arm or turn in the chair. Other than that. Big Thumbs up, give me a few day's to toss a few things in the Jar. :D 2HS464
Dave, every time I watch one of your videos, I am quite disappointed by the fact that you are not my neighbor. Sure would be fun to have you live in my neighborhood! HL1ZIX/KE0EYJ

I tried using it today on the back porch. It receives very well, but so far I haven't had a QSO with it.

I like your videos Dave because you don't assume the viewer knows nothing and also isn't an engineer Nice balance... tnx
Thank you!
Did you notice the peak at the carrier? I would adjust the BFO.

You may look at the carrier oscillator frequency. VK3YE had the same problem and has a video on it.

Can you give me a leg up by sending me a specific link? I'd appreciate that.
Replacing the L5 jumper with an actual inductor will also lower the BFO. The Arduino is only used for the SI5351 VFO and LCD etc.
yes timothy mc the vk3ye 27 pf mod is the way to go remove a cap and install another dave when will u mod yours kg6mn
Did you isolate the problem with the BITX or is it not worth digging into?
I didn't dig in much. It's a very inexpensive microphone that's not in any housing. People tell me on the air it's quite intelligible, but my recordings sound awful! It seems good enough for purpose.
Have you thought of maybe replacing it with a old reel to reel mic or even a cassette recorder hand mic or even a MFJ mic?

+Gregory Spivey yes, it was pretty bad. I haven't seen it that bad before.
THE 27 pf vk3ye did it for me kg6mn
Thanks for the tip
