But because it makes people uncomfortable they'd rather argue politics and make comparisons that have nothing to do with the point. I truly wish all you nay sayers could see it from our point of view.
It's funny because you can see that people still think like this. In Falcon and winter soldier there was a scene where Falcon slightly raised his voice at bucky, the police then pulled up and asked if there was a problem several times. You could tell who the white people were in the comments since they said it wasn't realistic. Most of the black people said it happened to them before, so they asked how it wasn't realistic. Black men don't even have the luxury of being able to be angry in public.
You put your life into the hands of a bunch of silly guys. It’s a contradiction if freedom has to be legalized. This isn't controversial, its just how things are. This video doesn't try to persuade folks to arm up or to disarm. It simply portrays how different folks are treated differently under the same laws.
As someone who fully supports the second amendment I don't feel like this is too controversial. They're pretty much saying all laws should be applied the same to both white and minority citizens. I think that every responsible American over 21 should own and consider conceal carrying a firearm, including (and possibly especially) minorities. @@skylarfox_bmb - except that those stats are also flawed, since the black community is often policed more heavily, thus reinforcing a negative feedback loop. For example, look at weed. The data shows that it is more often a "street" drug in black communities, while whites use it more in their homes, even though the use is pretty much the same (percentage wise) in both communities. But who goes to jail more for it? Sure you could argue, "well then black people should just do their drugs at home" but that still misses the point. It an also put your life in more great danger, because then that gives the person that you shot at, now the right to shoot back at you. Then they can claim self-defense.
Let’s talk about how Chicago, New York, and DC have extreme gun laws but it doesn’t curb gang violence. What gun laws could you pass that would prevent criminals from breaking the law? That’s the definition of criminal- someone who breaks the law. Why would we think that someone would be stopped by a ban on high capacity magazines or the establishment of a gun free zone?
So, if gun control is inherently racist, then we should have less gun control? Or more gun control just directed at white people? I'm not starting any bs at all, I'm just confused with the mixed comments, likes and the tone of this videos argument.
Apparently the people at Adam Ruins Everything think that their audience is so outrageously uninformed that they thought this video would fly. This is worse than MTV Decoded.
Not many people know that much about Reagan’s time as Governor of California. Heck, I didn’t know he was an NRA member yet signed a gun control policy to target the Black Panthers
In some cases, that is true, but at least where I am in the country if you get caught being a felon anywhere near a gun they will slap dat ass with a mandatory minimum sentence for 5 years. It deters a good deal of criminality and the majority of the offenders are gang bangers who ultimately just thin out the herd killing other gang bangers. I e., No real loss.
They left out facts with the case of Marissa Alexander. 1) First of all her husband, who was a black man, was able to walk away free from the ordeal. No punishment. If this was a racial issue he would have gotten at LEAST ten years if not more. Because, well he's black. Especially since out justice system is far harsher on men than they are woman. 2) She actually went to jail because she didn't kill her husband. Had she shot and killed her husband the stand your ground laws would have kicked in. But instead she gave him a warning shot which at the time stand your ground didn't cover. It had less to do with race and more to do with a victim blaming society. Though I don't see how sexism is much better than racism.
"She was trying to defend herself from her husband" She was in his house, LEFT, came back with a gun, and fired it into his home. She got house arrest. This video contains so many lies in it.
she was sentenced to 20 years in prison and only after a later appeal was she allowed to transition to house arrest after serving three years of her life in prison for executing her rights as a gun owner. she also never left the house, she retrieved her gun from her car in the garage AFTER trying to escape the house.
@@Deverex729 she did not live in that house. She left said house to the garage and grabbed said gun. Goes back into not her house and fires several shots including in the man's direction. But then she appeals it and a judge determined that time served was enough because nobody got hurt. Everyone moves on. She was still in the wrong even tho he was in the wrong.
@@Deverex729 again you are wrong. She left HIS house to go to the garage and to HER car to retrieve a gun, at this point she was safe all she had to do was leave. I've looked into this before (it's why I clicked on the video) and things were simplified to fit a six and a half minute video, but what was presented was basically true. The NRA, who claims to fight for the rights of all Americans, was notably silent when Castille was killed. That was everything they say they fear: the government literally killing a man for legally owning a firearm, but they expended more energy teaching countries that do not have a "second amendment" how to protect it. The point isn't "gun control good/bad", it's that when we have these debates, we're never getting the full picture. Whether you support these laws in theory, in practice they're being applied unevenly. The same goes for drug laws, for a lot of the same reasons. Adam cites all his sources, check them before you shut out the ideas, and check the sources of anyone telling you this video is wrong.
@MR Shedan Either you didn't watch the video very closely, or you're being willfully ignorant. Boxes pop up whenever a claim is made and a website is given that collects their evidence. www.trutv.com/shows/adam-ruins-everything/blog/adams-sources/adam-ruins-guns.html
The issue was that the NRA didn't want to tie their horse to another case that could very likely blow up in their faces. Castille had a controlled substance on him, marijuana, that murkied the waters a bit on whether he should be carrying, and the traffic stop wasn't as clear cut as as the ambush on police or the shooting of the Australian woman that came after. Though I would agree that the case should have fit their criteria, that is only in hind sight after more information was released.

American Gun Culture is rooted in colonial policy regarding allowing settlers to defend their property from things like Indian raids and foreign invasion by arming themselves and forming local militias. That way, the British didn't have to spend exuberant amounts of money on large regular army garrisons across their colonies, like Spain had to. This is the reality of the core of American Gun Culture, and guess what? Less and less Americans nationwide are owning property and are instead becoming rent-paying tenants like what is common in Europe. In other words, American Gun Culture WILL eventually collapse based solely on this, but not without causing at least tens of thousands more deaths in the process.
Because if you are going to drum up racial grievences, you better have good reason to justify the damage that this anger will cause. The video in question is contains not just a load of falsehoods but a load of falsehoods it would be borderline impossible to miss in the research needeed to create the video's examples in the first place. It takes an already toxic conversation and attempts to throw petrol on the fire by telling lies.
@@andrewshaw1571 OK. That's say that is the case (which I'm not agreeing that it is). Then what is the justification as to why the general argument is void? Because you can argue about certain parts of the clip, but some have to be no contest. Philando Castle was murdered mercilessly when he had done nothing wrong. Nobody has commented with outrage about that. Stop and frisks were performed to try to catch people of color with illicit drugs or illegitimate firearms. Nobody commented with outrage about that. But instead of trying to understand what the main idea is, people want to find any reason to discredit the argument so they can feel better about their asinine bottom lines. Its easier for me to argue that everything someone is saying are "lies" rather than looking in the mirror (as a whole) and admitting there is a problem.
@@DHokes If by general argument you mean the hypothetical argument that black people are being left out of the gun control debate, then no, that argument isnt void, much of this video is simply a worthless addition to it. The original question asked is why do people dislike the video, thats got nothing to do with the proposition, purely conduct and the conduct in this video is very poor. The contest to the castile question is simple, its not relevant. If the video was about police brutslity or racism in the police service, then opinion aside, the case is an example at least purporting to prove something. In this video the argument being made was that black gun control rights arent being fought for when the castile case had nothing to do with gun rights. Noone questioned his right to conceal carry, it was barely questioned whether he did anything wrong. The question in that case was whether with the information the officer had at the time, with the amount of time to think he had, was he justifed in making the mistake he made. That does not touch upon the question of gun rights and therefore, the NRA have no reason to get involved, they dont campaign for anyone who gets in trouble while a gun is on their person, they campaign on whether someones right to bare arms is being infinged upon. If you read the comments, stop and frisk doesnt seem to be a focal point for outrage. People will argue over it being a valid point but when it comes to people disliking the video, it isnt a major issue. People are more willing to engage with honest actors. The video isnt honest, the video misrepresents what stand your ground is, then raises an example while leaving out key info about the case. It later raises a point about castile, which everyone knows gets people riled up, where it has no relevance to the argument they are claiming to advance, while taking the time to aim at the NRA. Regarding the rest of the video, given the level of dishonesty on these points, to many, its not worth engaging with adam as even if he does make a correct argument, his track record for deceptive use of info leaves people unable to trust his use of info even when hes being fair. It doesnt flatten the argument as a whole, it just means people will have this argument elsewhere and leave adam out of it as he just muddys the water. Its like an argument over the situation in palestine where a video just presents a pile of israeli propaganda. It doesnt mean there isnt a discussion to be had over it, it just means this info is bad and to take a delicate situation and treat it so badly is worthy of your character being questioned.
@@DHokes As for me personally if you are interested, im not an american, im from the UK.The gun debate is fairly mad to us, my personal annoyance as an outsider is the lack of honest engagement, you wont solve this if you dont honestly engage with eachother. We dont like it when people start spreading lies about northern ireland to score political points. People died and are at risk of dying if that situation blows up again, agitation should be avoided unless you have serious points to make. Walkin gin and claiming the journalist killed there a couple of months ago was an ulster unionist murderer is going to piss people off. Therefore i can understand given the scale of anger displayed by the blm movement, fanning those flames with lies is a terrible thing to do. The BLM movement have enough problems with jumping on cases where the info doesnt back up the claim they are trying to make, what they need is cases that actually prove what they believe they see in their communities, not false alarms that just make people view them as the boys who cried wolf. I also dont support stop and search, i dont think treating everyone as if they are potentially guilty of a crime without due cause is in the spirit of the law. Even if you are in the process of committing a crime, it doesnt mean you are likely guilty of a different crime. If i catch you breaking the speed limit, that doesnt justify my search of your house for stolen goods and or cold kidnap cases. Jaywalking (dumb crime) doesnt mean you are likely to be carrying a knife, i dont think the police should have the right to frisk people on grounds like that. Spotting a large knife shaped lump under clothing or movements to conceal an item from police view would be due cause, not the fact that yopu happen to have committed a potentially unrelated crime.

"Stand your ground" didn't apply to Marissa Alexander because she specifically was firing a warning shot, which was not legal (as absurd as that may be). She was later released from prison and warning shots have now been allowed in some circumstances because of her case. This is just what I mean by bias. The video is full of it.
Mshojat actually she spent 3 years in jail which is crappy but I see your I don’t think it’s right. But that case is surely ambiguous although there are other cases where police officers have come out and and admitted we made a mistake based on a judgment call that was wrong. Recently a former army guy was shot because the police thought he was the shooter and the police later came out and said we made a mistake. Which makes me ask why make this mistake? Isn’t their a plan of action for finding the shooter and detaining them I mean they did that with the ihop shooter and the church shooter.
It absolutely was legal. (Or rather, to the extent it would not be legal, it would be a completely different crime.) The crime she was charged with was aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, which is absolutely a crime that the defense of self-defense applies to, and which she absolutely should have been acquitted of because of firing in self-defense. One of the reasons I'm so confident of this is that the prosecution's theory was that it was not a warning shot and she actually was firing at him. Well, if the prosecution is arguing against something and the defense is arguing for it, that means it would be good for the defendant if it was proven, right?
And Marissa Alexander went to her husbands home, went to get a gun and shot a warning shot inside Rico Grays house. Not sure if Rico was abusive, or that Marissa Alexander lied.
I am from Germany and this is nuts ... why are there so many dislikes? because it is uncomfortable to talk about racism? or because you love guns that much you can't think about anything bad with guns? I´ve once seen a police officer wearing a small MP and it made me very uncomfortable I can´t think why should anybody feel safer with a gun than without one. Guns got one purpose and only one purpose at all, they kill. It´s not like a knife that got a productive site. All you can do with a gun is kill people, why do you carry a gun? Every person who owns a gun, in my opinion, is ok with killing people because statistics say if you own a gun you´re more likely to kill or get killed.

Which of course he is going to point to a black person who agrees with him and go "well there you have it, gun control is good".
You were doing fine until “guns are everywhere and violence is rampant “. Many people own guns for many reasons but you just finished showing that very few guns were found during ten years of stop and frisk. Violence is not rampant, violent crime has been declining for decades and is very low. If violence was rampant a lot less people would be advocating for gun control.
It’s a non-partisan take on the gun debate that doesn’t take a side, but instead points out the racist history behind policies on both sides. Conservatives like to think anything against their political views is liberal propaganda. A major aspect of Leftism is eliminating systemic oppression, so revealing the racist (and Republicans) origins of gun control would make them a liberal defensive.
Duke Travers Yes, I agree politics have no right and wrong actually. Many people come from many places, so what one may think is right may be wrong for someone else. Like your example, gun control. A victim of a home invasion would probably be against gun control cause that’s what saved him so of course he or she would be all for guns. But one who lost let’s say a loved one, in a mass shooting would support gun control. There is no right and wrong, everyone is different so they have their own opinions and ways. So it’s not that easy to say “that’s right and that’s wrong”.
For example I would recommend looking into the Marissa Alexander case. The part he left out was: she went to his house, felt threatened by a text he had earlier sent to her, left his house to get her gun from the car, went back in (so much for stand your ground) and fired a "warning shot" in the kitchen, where he was with his kids.

Adam cites all his sources, check them before you shut out the ideas, and check the sources of anyone telling you this video is wrong.

www.trutv.com/shows/adam-ruins-everything/blog/adams-sources/adam-ruins-guns.html

Yes, everyone should have a gun of they're law abiding.

LIES, LIES AND LIES
I am always amazed when people talk about gun control like it can be piecemeal. It has to be enforced equally, everywhere, or it is useless. The system has to be federal, mandatory, and policy un-biased. However, I'm Canadian and biased.... so best of luck.
It's not the guns. It's the violence. There shouldn't be gun laws
I got stopped as a teenager, I had nothing on me because I stashed my piece behind a car wheel.
Well that was trashbag full of misinformation.
Sources? Cuz mine say that Alexander got house arrest on an appeal. And that she went to her husband’s house after leaving and coming back with a gun shooting through his wall.
*couldn't leave initially as she tried to escape.
*made it to her car and grabbed her gun
* stand your ground is supposed to apply even if you can escape. Ex. Trevon Martin
* she shot at the ceiling to threaten him to never beat her again.
* they tried to give her 20 years
Mochaahontas
It also applies when you are in danger. Shooting through your husbands wall is not protecting yourself, that is being the aggressor. Also prosecutors try to give people sentences they get all the time, and Adam misrepresented the sentencing to make it seam as if that was the final ruling. It is blatant virtue signaling and is very disingenuous, this happens constantly and is why the justice department is set up the way it is. She was not victimized
@@mochaahontas721 So what you're saying is that she PURPOSEFULLY went to her ABUSIVE separated husband's house (not her own house) WENT INSIDE, then ESCAPED TO HER CAR THAT SHE COULD HAVE DRIVEN AWAY WITH, and got a gun, then WENT BACK INSIDE TO HER ABUSIVE HUSBAND (who never left the house) and SHOT THE GUN IN THE HOUSE? lol
In the words of Adam himself “The choir is f***ing big”
How can a channel with the name TruTV put out a video that so blatantly misrepresents facts? What a joke
Again, extremely relevant
5:10 that’s not how that went if you watch the video he said I’m going to reach for my gun and the cop says don’t go for it multiple times but he still does what would you do
christian actually there’s no video that shows the man reaching for his gun! The cop who killed him said that.
Prove he reached for it.
Wtf are you on smh he wasnt reaching for his gun he was getting his license with the officer asked for and even the cop said he didnt know y he shot him.
For one Not all white historians are racist the Irish were treated just as badd as the blacks
this literally has nothing to do with the video
"Stand your ground" didn't apply to Marissa Alexander because she specifically was firing a warning shot, which was not legal (as absurd as that may be). She was later released from prison and warning shots have now been allowed in some circumstances because of her case.
This is just what I mean by bias. The video is full of it.
In waiting for Steven Crowder to tear into this.
(Or rather, to the extent it would not be legal, it would be a completely different crime.)
The crime she was charged with was aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, which is absolutely a crime that the defense of self-defense applies to, and which she absolutely should have been acquitted of because of firing in self-defense.
One of the reasons I'm so confident of this is that the prosecution's theory was that it was not a warning shot and she actually was firing at him. Well, if the prosecution is arguing against something and the defense is arguing for it, that means it would be good for the defendant if it was proven, right?
@@brianb.6356 never ever fire a warning shot.
And Marissa Alexander went to her husbands home, went to get a gun and shot a warning shot inside Rico Grays house. Not sure if Rico was abusive, or that Marissa Alexander lied.
Wow. A lot of people really hate history.
This video isn't history nor is it historically accurate.
White people have also been arrested for those exact same things
New show title “Adam manipulates millennials”
Now this video is more relevant than ever.
Sad but true!
Because it was all lies.
Also you can use guns in sport (competition shooting) and hunting.
We have more guns then people and close to 3 trillion rounds of ammo and yet only about 50k deaths (66% suicides) so what is your point?
@@emeraldstories3586 it's blood sport a Sport about the technique to kill other living beeings.

“Gun rights don’t protect black people either.” *proceeds to talk about instances where black people’s gun rights are violated*
Like how most laws unfairly target black people
I like how the conclusion people like Adam come to is that we need more gun control, but he is trying to finger wag at gun control for being historically racist, and say that black people need a voice in the gun control debate.
Which of course he is going to point to a black person who agrees with him and go "well there you have it, gun control is good".
Google proved this entire thing wrong.
I’m confused why this video has this much hate? 😐
Same
It’s a non-partisan take on the gun debate that doesn’t take a side, but instead points out the racist history behind policies on both sides.
Another reason to not be a U.S. citizen.
Why not?
I know, right?! All those people crossing illegally into the USA must feel the same way. 🤷
Really curious where all the lies you folks are talking about are.
I'm pretty sure that half of the dislikes were from racist optimists.
