Hi John, tough day for all of us with that gusty wind. I broke my No.4 section in a similar way as we were setting up. Fished the whole match on top 2 + 1 1/2.
You did well to stay Glynn, my short line was just so poor it wasn't worth carrying on, it cheesed me right off when the rollers went over, I had spare 4s and 5s with me, just no 6's as at £300 each, they ain't cheap.
john its best to take everything ,i know it can get heavy im 70 and struggle now having 3 lots o cancer but remember a small feeder tha might have emptied it., good luck on ye next one.
More of a wallet buster Pat 🤣. I show the real side of fishing. Sometimes it goes wrong, others are red letter days and most are somewhere in between. Cheers pal 🎣
hard luck john . pig when that happens and costly might a been better just flickin wagggler out small dibber foot deep wi castors there?specially wit wind too bad eh.
I normally feed caster but wanted to keep the bait bill down, (we don't fish for a lot of money), so went with maggot and pellet. The other reason for picking maggot was that we'd had overnight frosts the previous 2 days so despite it fishing well on the bank holiday, I thought it might fish a bit harder at the weekend and I was right as most struggled for bites. I think method or bomb on a short rod to the far bank would have been my best bet when conditions deteriorated, but I never took one with me😩
Thanks Ty, I try to show as much as I can, glad you appreciate it bud.👍. Pole can be replaced, pride will take a bit longer to heal, but tomorrows another day😉
Good video john i fished the same peg in March same problem with the wind the owner took most of the silvers and chub out a week before the match and chopped the bushes down but didn’t tell anyone from Tony
I'd seen they netted it but assumed it would still fish similar to previous and they were just removing the small fry, I wasn't alone as lots fished for the ide that were non existent. Those micro F1's are a nightmare, the finnickiest of biters.
Another good video John, so frustrating when fishing is poor and busting a No6 turns it into a bad day. Water buckets or heavy duty polly bag, are a winner on windy days to protect your rollers. Hopefully next match will improve your result.
Normally I stay cool Mike but after all of the windy days I've fished through recently, I just got fed up battling it. The section was the final straw. I'll be investing in some form of weight for my rollers ...mine don't have a hook so it might be time for a change but I'll see if I can adapt them first.
John, I have a strong lace tied to my roller (use to secure legs as well) which if conditions allow I secure to a tent peg to anchor roller, where ground is hard I use a bag of water.
Unlucky John nothing worse than looking forward to a good match and not been able to put your match plan together due to adverse conditions and to top it off with a bust no6 sure you will dig in and bounce back look forward to the next one.
Things rarely go to plan, it's how you adapt on the day. In hindsight, I should have taken a short method rod with me, but the blustery strong wind was worse than forecast and usually its just an out and out pole venue. The short line was just poor, presentation was good on it but if I'd known there were no virtually no silvers in, I'd have maybe fed pellet short for the carp. 🤷♂️ Onward and upward💪
No need to apologise mate as you say these things happen I no lost my 3 and 4 sections From my map 301 pole but hopefully shoud get them back soon it will get better for you that's for shore tight lines Ricky
Thanks David, I can't magic the fish in front of me, I can only report on what happens on the day, it's real fishing, real draws and peggy venues, not closed waters and sitting on flyers.
Fished a club match on Bills, peg 22, on Sunday the 1st of May, had a mare of a match. These shallow snake style lakes just arent my cup of tea. Just like yourself I didnt realise how the stocking had changed over the winter (my fault for not checking with the regulars) and with the bankside changes my margins where full of roots and debris. Its also feels like your jousting with the pole with anglers around you as the pegging is tight haha. Great video mate, keep them coming 👍
Not the best of venues Caius, a bit cramped to say the least, god knows what it would be like with every peg taken! Quite a few of us learned the hard way that the silvers have been removed, at least I've put that information out there now for those that don't fish there on a regular basis, shame I didn't get this upload done before your visit. Tight lines pal 🎣
Yeah to be honest Lou, I'm not sure I'd go back on a match on either Bills or Butt's, they're just too cramped. Don't think the stock change helped and we had two cold frosts preceding the match.
That's goes for all match fishing Keith. I think the general standard of angler even at club level is much higher than it used to be, not sure if that's down to the advent of video and social media but up to date information is more readily accessible now.
Yes, those top lakes are horrible featureless holes, even with double spaced pegs, it's tight for room, god knows how they'd peg everyone with the amount of kit people have. I might give it a miss if we're booked on it again in future.
That venue would be my worst nightmare ' I take back the scrapyard remark I made on the canal give me that any day , but hey that's match fishing and commercials , many moons ago one of our club members ' and I'll refrain from naming him even too this day , well he was having a mare of a match , the lot was hoyed in to the ouse ' basket ' hold all you name it , it went in to the drink the use of expletives could be Heard by the congregation in the church and to my knowledge he never picked up a rod again 🤣 you'll be back to fight another day John keep smiling . 👍
🤣Great story Martin. I wouldn't chuck it all in the drink even though sometimes we feel like it...it's too valuable. I'm over it now but it hurt at the time, a good night's sleep and I was raring to go again 😉
O my god i was feeling all of that for you John, i was getting frustrated watching you get frustrated, loosing fish then the pole breaking, i broke my pole once so i know how you feel mate, it was my no 3 section £40, kep loosing fish after fish grrrrr, can't hold you pole in the wind grrrr, why do i bother lol but we keep doing it, all the best cheers,👍👍
Sorry about that James, it was frustrating Fishing isn't all a bed of roses as some would have us believe, sometimes it's just sh#t 😉. New no.6 section was £300, expensive day out😭.
Very bad luck mate,it’s an awful feeling having a section break. The sound is the same as a broken leg in sport. You will get it sorted mate.BUT the bleeps on screen sounded like taxis in city centre.I promise you will laugh when you play it over a few times.Tight lines John.🤬🤬🤬🤬
Bloody Hell Muzza. A venue like that could turn me to golf Looks prime for someone to give you a gentle rub round your lug’ole with 10m of carbon Roll on 16th June
And that was double spaced pegging J. I'm not feeling the love from many of my viewers for this venue, yet hundreds fish it week in week out. Be great to get back on the flowing stuff but it'll probably pee down and ruin it for opening day or be red hot, low and clear. 🤷♂️
Unlucky John, as they say s**t happens, dont feel to dejected John it happens to most, even the good guys like yourself, still a great video on a very difficult day, Ian in the Borders
I was frustrated at the time Ian, a few beers in the evening and tomorrow was another day. I'm over the hit to the wallet now so other than me immortalising it on video, it's a now distance memory😉
Hiya John, we’re all the expander pellet rigs on 4 inch hook lengths? Think we all share the blight of fishing in the wind, still a great video non the less, top man. 🎣👌
strange venue.. i know its man made etc, but too sterile for me.. no bushes or trees to give it character or calm the surface tow a bit... them finicky bites i put the maggot on sideways. can help.. and im not suprised you lost the lumps..they looked like they had NO lips..? wider gape guru hook nex time perhaps..? i much prefer you on Proper Blokes venues lol.... 'with drone footage'..... keep em coming.. ..
Not my idea of a nice fishery. Some commercials are done well, those lakes at the top of the fishery (bills and butts) are just geared towards cramming as many people as possible into a small footprint. I was fishing a drennan wide gape pellet hook on the long line, carp maggot on the short, lost fish on both! The bushes had all been removed in March as well as most of the silver fish, which most of us were unaware of. I better renew my operator licence for the drone😉

Don't do a lot of carp fishing too tight to pay the ticket. Like all fishing if you cannot suss out what they want you can spend too much time swapping and changing and getting nowhere
Very frustrating day John, loads of fish over on the long line but presenting the bait nigh on impossible. Wish I'd taken my little 9ft method rod, it might not have been perfect but it would at least have been fishing.
Hi John. Really enjoyed your video. Bad luck with your pole. Bloody wind. Best of luck for your next match. Looking forward to the video

Tough day mate. You KNOW we all have em. Just sh-t at the time. Keep the vids coming mate, its real.
Heart breaker man! But you've got the courage to show it and that takes heart. Tight lines for next time.

Working on my resilience Phillip, had 2 shockers on commercials. Bring on the naturals 🤞🎣💪.
Usually all meat, pellet and paste on there pal, also don’t help that it’s like plumbing up on a building site and playing kaplunk with all the poles
