At first, I thought we were going down Sufjan Stevens territory with this series, but at this point I'm convinced Kenji is going to actually get to every one.
My favorite teriyaki place was right across the street from Mikou. It was named I Love Teriyaki but a different owner than the one in Fremont. Unfortunately the place had a fire a while back and they never rebuilt.
I miss I Luv Teriyaki Georgetown. I used to work in the area and would go for lunch all the time. Mikou was where I went when the ILT parking lot was full. :)
will have to check this place out! i love eating in georgetown - so many good places to check out there. also recommend the japanese grocery store maruta shoten, they got an amazing deli also, if anyone is interested in the museum of flight, they do free admission from 5pm-9pm on the first thursday of the month!
Hey Kenji! I’m really enjoying following along with this series; my wife and I are planning a trip to Seattle soon, so I can’t wait to try one of these spots.
I fell in love with Seattle teriyaki after living there for a couple summers 15+ years ago, and have never met anyone who even acknowledged that Seattle teriyaki was a thing. Ar long last, I feel seen. And hungry. Thanks, Kenji! The best copycat recipe I've seen uses lettuce in the sauce recipe. I make it by the pitcher and it takes me right back.
Despite the fact ive eaten at over 100 teriyaki restaurants, this is the first one in your series I've been to. This was probably my favorite one i went to in Georgetown. I love the crispy garlic chicken at Khao San Thai near the woodworking store, it was my favorite thing in Georgetown.
Just before reading your comment, I found this recipe on Reddit from a Seattle native: 1 part sugar 2 parts rice wine vinegar 2 parts mayo a lot of places will add poppy seeds.
Thank you for putting together the Google MyMap. I am visiting Seattle in August as the last stop on the West coast and I am 110% going to hit Matt's for a hot dog and try one of your stand out teriyaki spots.
As a lifelong local: I honestly have not heard a single friend or family member say that they LOVE Matt’s or think it’s super beloved in terms of Seattle. If you love hot dogs, sure, but if you’re looking for a proper Seattle dog I would just find a stand on cap hill at midnight. I wouldn’t go out of your for it, personally!
41 grams of sugar! oh I miss my rainy Seattle commute, not lying at all. Rain has a relaxing feeling, I wish I had better skills in poetry to elaborate but for me, I do have a connection with Seattle weather.
After following this series I wonder how many varieties of frozen dumplings there are. Does each owner choose from 20 options based on personal preference and price point or are restaurants limited to a few options based on who they use as a frozen food vendor. My second question is how is the teriyaki cooked? Charcoal grill, gas grill, flat top?
I went yesterday to this place. I visited the museum first and had a flight to check in to an hour later so needed a dinner and had time to kill, I t was a big plate, couldn't finish it all, and it came out real quick too. I enjoyed the meal, wish I remembered to get the combo with the gyoza, but oh well.
If you ever get to Durham NC, and crave dumplings and a Chinese burger, you have to hit Sister Liu's Kitchen. Their dumplings and sauce is so good, and their spicy burgers. I could hang out there for a week and the craving would still be there. Everytime you open the combo box, I get hungry.
A random hill I’ll die on is that Seattle teriyaki must be eaten with a plastic fork (chopsticks acceptable). I don’t know what it is but it never hits the same with metal utensils.
@@JKenjiLopezMain Awesome! I had some on Bainbridge Island yesterday that was good. Going to DTF tonight for soup dumplings but may check out one of those places tomorrow.
I'm not sure, but judging by the logo on the side and some quick investigating I think they are Ray-ban Meta Wayfarer glasses. I could definitely be wrong though, Kenji would have to confirm.
I think one of the first videos of this series had his explanation. I think it has to do with how edges are crimped together but I don't remember the details
He had mentioned frozen dumplings usually have some parallel marks on one side from the rack that they are placed on for freezing, but I haven't actually been able to see those marks in all of the videos
Have you been to Happy Food in the ID? It's owned and operated by one woman who doesn't speak any English. The best Chinese food I've ever had in seattle!
there is a teriyaki sauce recipe in his book, the wok. there is also a million on google, if you search teriyaki sauce recipe. here is a friendly canadian man who learned recipes in japan, and he shows some different takes on teriyaki sauce recipes. ua-cam.com/video/phCW6Er6HpQ/v-deo.html
Mango Pepsi-wow! Hey--in all your travels in the south end, I wonder if you are aware of the annual Plate of Nations--promoting over 50 BIPOC and immigrant food businesses in SE Seattle, going on now through April 7!
"I'm going to all of them" the utter determination, no, the sheer certainty, with which he said this... shivers... down the spine..
You, sir, are crazy.
when kenji insisted with the utmost conviction he'd be eating at every teryaki joint in Seattle - i felt that
He’s gonna be on this series for years then.
Me checking the dumplings every episode now thinking yup store bought again… thanks Kenji!
I wish they weren't all deep fried, the best part of gyoza is the contrast in texture when doing the frying/steaming technique
It seems like there would be a huge opening in the market for someone willing to make their own.
@@torslokethats a looot of labor
good frozen dumplings aren't *that* much worse than homemade, and an order of magnitude cheaper
Gotta be a Teriyaki joint in Seattle that hasn't been visited yet working on their homemade dumpling game right now.
We can only hope
I just said something similar to my wife. Now is the time to be on point if you are in the teriyaki business in Seattle. He could arrive on any day.
The biggest surprise to me on this journey so far is learning there’s only 80 something teriyaki restaurants in Seattle.
I think there used to be a lot more.
If Alicia watches the soda segment of this video, you are grounded for at least a week, my dear Kenji.
The Museum of Flight has an amazing collection of planes. It's a must if you're an aviation nerd.
Just went on this last Friday. It was quite good.
Focus soldier, this is about the teriyaki.
At first, I thought we were going down Sufjan Stevens territory with this series, but at this point I'm convinced Kenji is going to actually get to every one.
I know you probably don't wanna eat any more teriyaki haha, but I'd love if you made a video on how you'd make it at home!
Please drop your recipe @kenji
He mentioned in another video comment that he’s planning on posting his recipe some time before finishing the tour
He’s got 80 something more to go he better want to eat more teriyaki!!
Yesss!!!
agree, i was saddened when i looked on his page and he didnt have one.
My favorite teriyaki place was right across the street from Mikou. It was named I Love Teriyaki but a different owner than the one in Fremont. Unfortunately the place had a fire a while back and they never rebuilt.
That's a chain, but also is consistently really good Teriyaki no matter the location you go to.
I miss I Luv Teriyaki Georgetown. I used to work in the area and would go for lunch all the time. Mikou was where I went when the ILT parking lot was full. :)
I luv teriyaki was the best! Too bad they burnt down 😢
I religiously went to that location before it had burned down, I found out about Mikou after getting a craving for teriyaki and now it’s my place lol
I Luv Teriyaki had ELITE spicy chicken katsu. I was so sad when they burned down.
The Kenji Teriyaki diet.
I'm up for the challenge. I would do the same if I lived near that many teriyaki joints.
@@shanetwogood7893 Already on the diet myself
I hope he’ll upload an Ozempic cooking video soon as well. I could use it
I see grill marks, I click.
One of my favorite places for lunch. Can't beat the value/taste combo in that area
Pepsi mango is great! I had it once mixed with Hint blackberry and really enjoyed it!
RIP to the I Luv Teriyaki that was across the street from Mikou, and burned down 😢

Hey Kenji! I’m really enjoying following along with this series; my wife and I are planning a trip to Seattle soon, so I can’t wait to try one of these spots.
I hope, if you give us a recipe for teriyaki, you also do a salad dressing to go with. I am loving this series so much!
Where do you get your woodworking supplies? I have family in Seattle and love stopping in to different woodworking shops
Woodcraft.

I've been loving this series, Kenji!
I'm vegetarian and don't live in seattle but i'm still enjoying these videos.
Dumplings sound and look amazing.
I grew up in Portland, lived in Seattle for 11 years, lived in Portland another 10+ years and now live in California. I miss true PNW teriyaki!!!
It's pretty ballsy to leave the gear out on your car while you're away from it!
Did you ever try the Luv Teriyaki that was across the street?
Getting the E in this level was always tricky for me.
Great remix!
Be like Kenji: use your blinkers, hold the door, ride a bike, and share good food.
I work down the street and Mikou Teriyaki is my go to Teriyaki. It is on the sweet side which is what I prefer, the sauce and dressing is the best.
I'd love to see what a standard recipe for that kind of salad dressing is like.
Just before reading your comment, I found this recipe on Reddit from a Seattle native:
1 part sugar
2 parts rice wine vinegar
2 parts mayo
a lot of places will add poppy seeds.
Check out Kauai family restaurant in Georgetown better than some of the places in hawaii
The best was the sadly lamented ‘I love teriyaki’ that used to right across the street.
The spicy chicken and mushroom from this place is my favorite thing from any teriyaki place

Mikou is by far one of my favorite teriyaki spots in Seattle!! :)
Calozzi's is so good, my favorite cheesesteak in the area. The owner is pretty awesome too.
Very underrated neighborhood Georgetown
Museum of flight is amazing
Wok's Teriyaki right nearby this place is a Georgetown favorite!
80, wow!
Not Kenji checking sugar levels on I-5! 😂
He's going to drive off the road if he looks at that 😂
I drink full sugar soda like once a month because it's so ridiculous 😭
@@Instanence 🤣chock full of vitamins!
Kenji if you are ever in Kent area stop by "Asian Table" off meeker st.
I would have taken home a couple of Banh mi's and some Pho from the neighbor business.
I'll be keeping an eye out for the mango Pepsi 😂

what about that pho place, is that good?

I have never not done the gyoza teriyaki combo... I just wish more places had it with the gyoza and spicy teriyaki option

Nice! You did the Kenji Special.
gotta check out Maruta Shoten!
Like your videos, found you from NPR wait wait don't tell me. Keep up the good work
Midori Teriyaki in downtown is really good.
Kenji what type of Patagonia jacket is that? That's a clean look
You need to try 5 Corners Teriyaki in edmonds. Spicy is the best around
“Prefab dumplings” 😂

I hope Google comes out with those glasses and they have Gemini. I really want a pair.
Would you do all the Pho places next? It's almost as ubiquitous as teriyaki.
Musashi sushi has a pretty decent chicken teriyaki
How do you like the Meta glasses for video recording?
He has a video review of them already. In all they are good for what they are meant for: short, POV clips.
I'm in Seattle this week and can only visit one teriyaki place. Which should I try?
Rainier or I love teriyaki.

Where is his toddler?
Just catching up! Is there a place where he talks about PNW teriyaki vs Japanese?! Has he given a PNW recipe yet??
I REALLY LOVE the Wasabi Coleslaw from Katsu Burger across the street
I actually audibly gasped when I heard 41 grams per can. That's wild.
I think we need a tier list that you update at the end of each video
When you say the dressing is like a “sweet mayo,” would Miracle Whip be a close analogue?
Think like a less vinegary coleslaw dressing
What are your glasses Kenji?
Its best put in bowl and mixed up
Where did you get those photo-sensitive camera/glasses?
I'm not sure, but judging by the logo on the side and some quick investigating I think they are Ray-ban Meta Wayfarer glasses. I could definitely be wrong though, Kenji would have to confirm.
They’re the Rayban Meta wayfarers.

the Ron Swanson of teriyaki

not the cursed ass mango pepsi!
That mouth hurting sweetness is exactly how I remember it.
Kenji needs to come down here to The GNO and go to Dat Dog
This is not Beacon Hill, at least look at a map of Seattle neighborhoods. How long have you lived here?
Easily was one of the best places for teriyaki and the prices are good.
I saw george town and thought you were in the DC area for a second. I was so excited and then so sad lol.
Love it
I'm actually shocked that wasn't more than 41 grams of sugar
Kenji did you ever go to Kaz Teriyaki in San Mateo? Right down the street from Wursthall. To me it is the platonic ideal
So jealous of all these teriyaki shops. It's not a thing at all where I live.
What would be a typical marinade for teriyaki chicken? Do they use the teriyaki sauce or just plain soy sauce or something else?
there is a teriyaki sauce recipe in his book, the wok. there is also a million on google, if you search teriyaki sauce recipe. here is a friendly canadian man who learned recipes in japan, and he shows some different takes on teriyaki sauce recipes. ua-cam.com/video/phCW6Er6HpQ/v-deo.html
