@@vollsticks No, actually. I've only heard Basket of Light (one of my favourite albums). Just googled it and I had no idea they had more albums. Looks like I'll be listening to those for the next few weeks. Thanks for giving me the nudge.
@StrawberryMixALot No problem. Basket Of Light is a great LP. Pentangle and their various members collectively have a huge discography. Enjoy the journey mate 👍🏻
Five points of light indeed. May they never be extinguished. Everybody - everywhere - of all generations - should be made aware of what these five people accomplished.
There is no MCing, dancing, or culture surrounding it. It's brilliant musicianship, orchestration, and arrangements. But its far from hip hop. I implore you to do some research and know that hip hop was created in 1975, 3 years later, of course it took a lot of from bands that were sampled.
I've heard the FZ version (Lost Episodes), so it's traditional, then? I knew Zappa was interested in shanties and folk as well as orchestral. Rather cool, this version
Are you absolutely sure? I have 50 Frank Zappa records and CDs and never heard him do this tune… Unless it’s on one of the shameful forbidden bootlegs??
@@rhythmfield i had to check myself out of disbelief and yes he did. it's just xylophones or whatever that is and it's called 'wedding dress song'. google it. not as good as this but still good. no vocals at all.
If the audio was multi-tracked I'd love to hear it remastered and if this was shot on film would love to see it re-scanned to 4K or more, kinda feels like this is a wonderful document but could be enhanced a bit more - nothing crazy, not talking about AI or upscaling - just rescan the negative if there is one and remix the audio - just a little tweak.

I am, indeed, a baby boomer- and I understand this comment - but I’ve just got to say it: OK Boomer! In 1972, grandpa heard this and said “this is crap, nothing like the old Glenn Miller we used to dance to!” And the circus grinds on.
This was 20 years before Unfinished Sympathy so if there was a rip off it was the other way round. The Pentangle guys were never much into suing musicians who "borrowed" from them though; if they did, they would never had time to do anything else.
They are so comfortably casual about being technically excellent.
They were real musicians. No pretentious showmanship here, just humility and talent.
Terry Cox dropping the fresh beats... fantastic drummer, percutionist, singer songwriter.
She could sing the phone book and make me weep
Effortlessly sublime.
this started off sounding like a 90s jam, it's crazy
yeah that drumbeat was ahead of it's time
You heard the LP version? It's.....not as amazing as this.
Still pulling the open drums though!

I'm absolutely tripping balls listening to this
Hope it was a fun ride bud!
One of my favorite moments tripping. Hope you enjoyed my friend ✌️🧡
🤣🤣
A band comprised of NOTHING but the best. That much talent in one group is unlikely to ever be matched.
That bowed bass is so cool
Sample time! Funky, folky and sitars... total brilliance
That’s a banjo son. 5 strings not 20. 😂
this groove, performance and whole atmosphere is incredible. i've listened to this so many times!
This little band was monumental. 🌹
They really mean business with those 200w Orange heads and cabinets. Hell of a thing to put a 6 string banjo through!
Terry cox multi tasking
He is without doubt one of the best drummers EVER.
His level of talent makes most of the supposed greats look like amateurs.
So ahead of his time!
Love how the floor lights light up the bow weaving on the double bass at 1:43
I saw that! I wondered if that was deliberate!
Fell in love with Pentangle and Fairport Convention 50 years ago and still have their albums! Wedding dress was done much better on the album.
Five points of light indeed. May they never be extinguished. Everybody - everywhere - of all generations - should be made aware of what these five people accomplished.
Just stumbled across this, what a beautiful song. Would raise the quality of any wedding playlist!
This music is far ahead of its time.
You mean it took hip-hop 30 years to catch up.
It's traditional, actually

this is my favorite song of all time
What a fantastic cooking pot of styles they had on the boil. Folk yes, but much more than that. Superb....
Very rare to get Jackie, Bert ,John and Dan all individually brilliant playing together ❤
You forgot to mention Terry Cox!!!

the Wedding Dress Break

Unfinished Sympathy.....
😂 I heard this on Insta and this is exactly what I thought.

If Jim Henson and Mick Fleetwood ever had a baby that kid would grow up to play banjo in Pentangle!
Surely this drum pattern has been sampled? It’s so familiar. And it’s so much better than the album version.

Best if listened to the whole lost episodes album
The pentangle.Discovered them in the 70's. Great Music-ians! Still love it!
Love how they made a remix of the song while simultaneously playing the original
Jacqui, what a voice
In 1972 only a few radio stations were musically astute enough to spin these folks.
Great music, thank you for posting, all the best!
I love this song and this lady's beautiful voice!

what is zappa ? a cousin of dorito pacman ?
It's an Appalachian folk song popularized by Peggy Seeger in the early 1960's
Zappa did cover this, yes, along with the Handsome Cabin Boy, a favorite sea shanty of his.

Shit on film is crazy
Shot😮
This was shot in a TV studio.. Wonder why it wasn't on VT as opposed to film? 🤔
Very nice! :)
🙌🙌
This is superior to the studio version. I wish their studio work did more to capture their live sound, which was far more interesting
How has the first five seconds not been sampled for ten thousand hiphop tracks?
An excellent point Sir....you get at this opportunity.
what is hophip tracks ?
Was this ever released as an album? The studio version is similar, but the beat is much tighter in this video.

Celtic triphop, only it's the 1970's
