I read an article one time entitled " In a perfect world, King's X would be bigger than U2." Loved these guys from the moment I heard the song King way back in the 80s. They never got the respect or the attention they deserve. They are truly one of the greatest pure rock bands of all time.
People were not ready for King's X when they came out. Their biggest commercial hit sounded little like this one, unsurprisingly. They are terrific though, aren't they?
Welcome to the First Church of Rock'n'roll! Seriously, this song, after more than 30 years, still gives me the chills. The whole southern church thing was not my personal experience but it just sweeps me away and what vibes this song gives! Never ceases to amaze me. Never really watched the video before, but good work in its own right.
Kings X is amazing and never talked about enough. I'm very glad to see them make an appearance on the channel - there is way more to be discovered from them.
You just got bit by the King's X bug. There's no way to pigeon hole them into any category because they change so much while still keeping their feel. The absolute most under rated band out there. They've been my favorite band since the late 80s.
Thank you for being one of the first reactors I’ve seen check out King’s X ... they are one of the bands that has influenced tons of other musicians. The rest of the “Gretchen Goes To Nebraska” LP is absolutely worth checking out, as is 1994’s “Dogman” and more recently, “Ogre Tones” and “XV.”
Kings X I have been listening to these guys since the early 80s. Ty Tabor is still very innovative and still recording. Dug has great vocals and the drummer is always tic tock rock. Thanks for posting this.
I love it! I've been a fan of king's x since the '80s. They're a very special group of guys and badass musicians. They always inspired me and I feel their music in my bones! Thank you for your video and Welcome to the club.
Excellent choice, Sir! Hugest sound ever for just 3 dudes. King's X is a band that has an interesting range of music, performed with the highest levels of musicianship--and continues to grow artistically, unafraid of pushing some boundaries. Early years had some lyrical focus on their spiritual struggles, which got the band incorrectly labeled as a 'Christian' band (a label they vehemently reject..) You'll have a hard time choosing the next tune (and then pacing yourself after that,) But, if I was going to give you 5 tunes to inadequately explore the range these guys offer through the years, while still leaving the better known tunes for you, I'd recommend: 'Shoes' (from "Dogman") 'Julie' (from "XV") "The World Around Me" (from the self-titled 4th album) "Bebop" (from 'Ogre Tones') "She's Gone Away" (from "Please Come Home, Mr. Bulbous") Enjoy!
These guys came out in the '80s, and were fusing things like metal, gospel, and progressive rock. Super influential on the later grunge scene of the 90s, but largely forgotten somehow. _Gretchen goes to Nebraska_ and _Dogman_ are my two favorite albums by them, and both are very different from each other. One thing that kind of hurt them is that people read into their songs and basically identified them as a "CHristian rock band," a label they themselves didn't even really like that much. Then, later, Dug (the bassisst and lead singer) came out as gay, and all those evangelicals who thought they were a Christian band got really mad.
More King's X please! How about "We Were Born to be Loved"? King's X has been my favorite band since I heard "Over My Head" on the radio show Metal Shop in 1989. Ty, Jerry and dUg have the most amazing band chemistry and sound. I'm looking forward to more.
first saw this video on mtv, or vh1, went and bought the only kings x album in the store, which was "out of the silent planet", listened to it thru many times before i realized "over my head" wasn't even on it, so i had to go get "Gretchen..." too. Both are still at the top of my fav records.
Have seen them in concert a lot of times and they always bring down the house. They really play to the crowd.....normally you can hear the crowd singing the songs word for word.
I'm a first 3 albums guy and this band are one of them. Set the grunge sound template with the drop d tuning and odd riff metres, the crosby stills and nash harmonies meets gospel preacher or lennon ( depending on whose lead voc) was unique in hard rock ( or anywhere in the late '80's, strictly ohhs and ahhs ) thats probably why they didnt catch on.
Enjoyed these guys very much. New to me but they were good. The very first few bars reminded me slightly of ZZ Top, but just for a sec. The lead singer, Doug, has a lot of charisma. 🔥
This was excellent. Thank you for doing a King’s X reaction. They were awesome. I have a request for a video reaction. It’s Band-Maid, and the song Manners. If you decide to do this, I thank you ahead of time :)
Kings X is one of my top 3 GOAT! So criminally underrated, sadly over-looked as they came about at the end of hair metal and the beginning of the Grunge movement...and still never fit comfortably in either. They are the direction metal should have taken. Kings X remain unique amongst metal bands. Cannot wait for the new album!!!!!

One of the greatest and most criminally underrated bands of all time. Everything they have ever done and continue to do is genius.
I read an article one time entitled " In a perfect world, King's X would be bigger than U2." Loved these guys from the moment I heard the song King way back in the 80s. They never got the respect or the attention they deserve. They are truly one of the greatest pure rock bands of all time.
#TruthBomb
Hard to believe Dug is 70. Great bassist & singer.
The guy is just astounding as a musician and a frontman. Then and now
King's X is a seriously solid band. They were always described as a "musicians band", meaning they were a group that other musicians would listen to.
KING'S X remains in my top 5 bands of all time. 1. Rush 2. Queensryche 3. Iron Maiden 4. King's X 5. The Police
You gotta play Summerland. You won't regret it.
You just got bit by the King's X bug. There's no way to pigeon hole them into any category because they change so much while still keeping their feel. The absolute most under rated band out there. They've been my favorite band since the late 80s.

Ty's Second Solo in this song kills me.
Yes! That and the bass counterpoint - a beautiful thing
Tys a great guitarist he does a lot of drop d tuning
Kings X
I have been listening to these guys since the early 80s. Ty Tabor is still very innovative and still recording. Dug has great vocals and the drummer is always tic tock rock. Thanks for posting this.

My fav song of all time. Period. I love his reaction. It was like "I'm stunned. I want to comment...but...I want to see what they'll do next..."
The Kings X wormhole is a deep one. Believe that.
kings x, what a band.
criminally underrated
Killer trio from Texas! Been loving these guys for 30 plus...please go down this beautiful rabbit hole.
All time favorite band,🥰
I see your musical taste is as refined as mine is. 😁👍
Excellent choice, Sir! Hugest sound ever for just 3 dudes.
King's X is a band that has an interesting range of music, performed with the highest levels of musicianship--and continues to grow artistically, unafraid of pushing some boundaries. Early years had some lyrical focus on their spiritual struggles, which got the band incorrectly labeled as a 'Christian' band (a label they vehemently reject..)
You'll have a hard time choosing the next tune (and then pacing yourself after that,) But, if I was going to give you 5 tunes to inadequately explore the range these guys offer through the years, while still leaving the better known tunes for you, I'd recommend:
'Shoes' (from "Dogman")
'Julie' (from "XV")
"The World Around Me" (from the self-titled 4th album)
"Bebop" (from 'Ogre Tones')
"She's Gone Away" (from "Please Come Home, Mr. Bulbous")
Enjoy!
The First Church of Rock N' Roll!
They're your favorite band's favorite band.
Told ya!! Bro, you have officially entered the rabbit hole. Welcome, and get comfy.

I loved these guys when growing up, and boy howdy did they stand the test of time, too. Thanks for this vid!
I'd recommend 'Its Love' for another reaction, just a fun song overall
when Black Sabbath says they don't want to follow them at a show that tells ya how good they were tight there.
Check the Sly and the Family Stone nod towards the end. King's X is some talented cats.
I'm a first 3 albums guy and this band are one of them. Oh my! Haven't heard these guys in years!! Thanks for the listen!
Nice!
This group does have an interesting story too!
This was excellent. Thank you for doing a King’s X reaction. They were awesome.
I have a request for a video reaction. It’s Band-Maid, and the song Manners. If you decide to do this, I thank you ahead of time :)
Ty Tabor is a guitar god btw, no one can touch him lol
Ty and Alex Lifeson are my two fav guitar players. BOTH underrated.
🔥
I saw them open for ZZ Top in ‘84, been a fan ever since. Ty Tabor is criminally underated.

Great creative video and sound. I'm going to have to research them more myself. Good choice!
Can't beat Kings x one of the best !!!
also check out KXM. Rescue me
This song was played at my mother's funeral. (Some people had a problem with that. They took the L.)
Superb band - really first rate and unfortunately - hardly anyone knows about them.
Musician's like myself are the ones that love them the most.
