Okay first of all, autistic people are known for having a special interest. It could be anything like anime, video games, sports, music, ANYTHING. So saying all autistic people are attracted to manga is stupid, and just painting us all with the same brush. We are all somewhere different on the spectrum, which is why it's called AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER.
Second of all, anyone can like manga, ANYONE. It wasn't made specifically for autistic people but for anyone to enjoy.
Lastly, this is making me feel targeted. Autistic people are so misunderstood and you're influencing this on the media so everyone's gonna believe this and more of us will be targeted. People really suffer from this, so stop using us in your titles for entertainment purposes. We have feelings too. This actually makes a lot of sense. One of the things that many autistic people (not all) struggle with is reading the emotions of other people accurately. With viewing a live-action movie, it is much more difficult for them to analyze subtle body movements, facial expressions, and many of those other emotional cues that neurotypical people understand immediately. In anime and manga many of the expressions are over-the-top and easily recognizable. There are some exceptions of course, but in a medium that is drawn, expressions are a lot clearer to recognize. I'm glad this medium exists and that it can help people feel a sense of community!

I feel the same with animated shows. Obviously I wouldn't say that facial expressions or emotions are hard to read, it actually depends more on the quality of the screenplay and of course the actor's performance. Blade runner 2049 is one of my favorite movies ever, and one of my favorite scenes is the famous "You're a good Joe" scene. Ryan Gosling expresses so much emotion with a simple blank and defeated stare, it's truly one of the most beautiful face-focused performances I've ever seen in a movie. In fact, anime can sometimes be a bit hard to watch since the expressions can be a bit TOO exaggerated sometimes, but I feel like that's more of a cultural thing than anything else. I do prefer how eastern storytelling focuses more on character dynamics and the emotional fallout of major events rather than just doing the same old "The world's ending and we gotta save it!" storyline that every modern blockbuster reuses. I get it, it's profitable, and the movie industry is, at the end of a day, a business. But I just appreciate the diamonds in the rough, the few movies that try to make stories with more unconventional plot progression that put a bigger focus on characters.

As a person on the Autism Spectrum myself, I am sick to death of people using the word "Autism" as an insult. Many people with Autism can have amazing hidden talents and/or fascinating interests once you get to know them. Autism is NOT a disability. It's a superpower. Autistic people deserve equal amounts of love and respect that non-Autistic people get.
