    I have owned mine for about a year. Stopped wearing it about 5 months ago when I almost lost it on a 60 mile trail ride on my XR600. The vibration shook a couple screws loose and it came apart. Luckily I noticed it before it was long gone. It has come in handy a few times. Mostly to tighten loose hardware. I do wish it was geared a little more to outdoor survival, and not so much office cubicle survival. I think it would be cool if there were optional tools that could be purchased, to customize each bracelet to its owner. A fire starter, a threaded water tight tube 1/4" in diameter to put fire starting fluid, a compass, ....Was also hoping they would make a square watch for it. The round one just looks out of place.

    A $60 price difference for the black one? No thanks Leatherman. Poor metal that bends/warps and does not stay sharp after one use. Better to wait till they don't sell well and the price drops.

    Unlike the standard Leatherman this is something you can actually take on a plane! Having worn a Leatherman Wave since it was first released every single day until a few years ago when I couldn't at work for a combination of reasons this bit of 'man jewelry' seems to be the ticket. Sure it's expensive but so was my Saddleback briefcase. Bottom line is it is on my wish list because I can wear it to my Second Amendment infringing job. And like the Leathermans before I'm certain it will get some use.

      +The Late Boy Scout I may further upset some and even spring for the watch version. I remember thinking the Leatherman Supertool was expensive until I bought one and used it regularly on the job. At the time that was climbing towers and saved me on a regular basis from climbing down hundreds/thousands of feet to retrieve a tool that could do the job. The incredible warranty is what has kept me addicted. Unfortunately I have noticed similar issues with some other Leathermans where the metal doesn't hold up but they replaced them no questions asked. Having purchased Leathermans for more than one family member who in turn lost them to the TSA is another thing that is painfully obvious. I don't want to buy the TSA any more of these. Great review and thanks for the prompt response.

      +USCOMBATDIVER Hi have you actually taken one onboard or are you just guessing? I suspect you would have this taken from you.(maybe by an over vigilant ) security staff- maybe not- It isn't a metal watch band. On another note, it looks really cool but there are many screws to come out and once this happens, one's "cool" survival wrist bracelet etc etc will be bits and pieces. I'm going to check them out anyways and maybe review too.

      Way worse in Australia. Firstly, they only just released in Australia. The shipping to Australia often doubles the price for leatherman's and the Australian dollar is shit right now further increasing the price. So $165 for you would be close to $350 for me xD

    I do not wear man jewelry.
    I was interested in this tool because it had Allen drivers on it, which is actually what you used to tighten your towel rack.... That was not a phillips... I am assuming you just did a voice over and made a misstatement(it happens), but any person that does any work on cars and such should know what a phillips head is VS an allen driver..... Makes me wonder a little...
    Having allen bits on my wrist would be great, because I do not wish to carry around a pouch of bits for my leatherman....
    You are probably the only person I have seen that thinks the SD card pick is a useful tool.
    Most people will not be pulling sim cards out on a regular basis. You put a sim card in your phone, you use the phone for 2 years, and then you get rid of the phone...
    Your point about why you need a softer, more stainless steel was smart! I hadn't thought about that! Sweat is really corrosive!
    I personally have had a leatherman in my pocket of one variety or another for 20 years. I used them at least 2 times a week, and most of the time, several times per day. I have twisted a bit or two, so if I can do that on regular leathermans, this won't last a year...
    I was interested in this, but after seeing some reviews, I am now convinced this is a bracelet for the Dandy's(google it)..
    Thanks for the thorough, and complete review all the same!

    I work at a retail establishment that sells Leatherman products. I saw this when it was released, and went bananas over it. between myself, and two other guys at my store, I've got three sold right off the bat. BUT, Leatherman decided that mid-sized locally owned retailers were not worth their cool new product, and have spent the last ten months or so distributing them solely through their giant accounts, like cabela's and REI. I have been told by our Leatherman rep that I probably won't get any until the first quarter of next year. I might not be able to order 500 units at a time, but I have stood behind their company for years, and I usually have at least one of every multitool that they make IN STOCK, and ON DISPLAY. My display looks better than the displays at both of the closest Cabela's and REI stores. I'm sorry to vent on your channel Scout, but this is a subject of great irritation to me. I think the tread is SICK, and I have offered them money to sell it for them, and they won't send me even one unit. Money talks, I guess

    • @TheLateBoyScout
      @TheLateBoyScout  9 років тому

      True, I've only seen it at some of those larger retailers as well. I suppose they have their reasons.

    • @guitardavepdx
      @guitardavepdx 9 років тому

      +The Late Boy Scout The reason why you only see it at larger retail stores is the fact the factory just can't keep up. It sells much faster than they can build them. The are working to improve all of tje above, hiring like crazy.

    • @benromney9279
      @benromney9279 9 років тому

      +guitardavepdx I don't have a problem with Leatherman selling their products to big stores. What I would like to see is them filling orders in the order that they were placed. That's all.

  • @crappystruth

    I see there's one in black that looks pretty darn cool for $220 vs. silver at $165. The black looks way better, but $220 worth of cool? Nope!! The other isn't worth $165 either. Especially since it bends (17-4 Stainless Steel according to company site). Choice of black or silver for $50-$80, maybe. I'd have to have some expendable money really burning a hole through my pocket before I'd blow-it on this. In the $50-$80 range that is. I'm surprised Leatherman would release a product that would have that level of performance failure. I expect it from the Chinese all day, but American made (IF it is U.S.A. made)......sheesh!!

  • @jacobarseneault8106
    @jacobarseneault8106 8 років тому

    I don't own the bracelet but I'm assuming the scribe tip is carbide. The screw drivers especially the flat head can't be made like that because of how brittle carbide is. It was a good idea nonetheless

  • @crankybloke
    @crankybloke 8 років тому +11

    So, in summing up: It is an impractical, limited functionality, ridiculously chunky, oversize, overpriced, heavy piece of "man" jewellery for those who feel inadequate and have more money than sense. This would sell well in the US where there are an abundance of "men" who need this to feel manly. Seems to be aimed at the US market, given that the hex drivers are in dinosaur measurements.
    Also gotta lol at the gimp calling the hex drivers philips head drivers.
    Hate to imagine you would get stung if you ever need to replace one of the "tools".

    over $160 for a new toy? i don't think so. i'm content to wait until it's either knocked-off by a "lesser" company, or Leatherman wises up and lowers the price themselves. no way i'm spending THAT much cake on a multitool i may need once or twice a week. even if it is TSA-friendly. and besides, i've already designed numerous TSA work-arounds anyway. and i can assure you none of them cost me over ten bucks.

    Then I saw the price, even if it's a no-name swiss made

    Looks like a good tool. I see it more like a backup tool for redundancy sake. Basically I'd carry and reach for my Surge first. So if i did get a Tread it wouldn't get much use other than as a bracelet. But in a pinch the Tread would be handy to have around.

    i stopped at 6:43,,, just to type this,,, if you buy a
    *Utility Metal Card Tool
    *Mini Multi Tool
    the first thing anyone should do, and i promote this idea...
    is to have
    *Sand Paper for Steel
    *Diamond Sharpening Rod
    *metal file
    because we all know that most parts on these tools are blunted or not sharp, its the manufacturer's insured intelligence that keeps the consumer safe when unpackaging these tools. Then , when you have these tools "In-Hand",you can sharpen parts as needed.
    I have a *mini-tool
    *Leatherman fuse
    *Victorinox Officer Suisse
    *Off Brand Multi tool
    *A small "John Wayne" (in case i want something smaller and lighter)
    All these of which I sharpened or"Filed" as needed.But ,I also would like to have this Tread Tool, just in case...

    I think it is cool. Useful I am sure. But the price is a little much and I think the only people who might buy it will be the people to show it off more than they would use it. And probably not know how to use most of the features. Still cool bracelet. Thanks for the video.

    These are ok for light use but tend to fall to bits with heavy wear, I got a similar multi tool off e.bay 8 yrs ago still using it, made in china, but at a third of the cost the quality was a lot better.

    I applaud you for actually testing it, but I honestly cannot see myself wearing this or using this. Seems way too gimmicky. I feel this is a fail from Leatherman. But...maybe someone, somewhere, will use it on the daily. I'm just not that person. Thanks for the review!

    Definitely love the MacGyver factor of it, but I'm not sure I'd use it enough to justify the purchase. I'd really only use the O2 key. Although if you buy this, it's more for cool factor rather than functionality. Kinda like you talked about during the intro. Great review buddy.

  • @Andy.H.H.

    Is this bracelet/tool cool? Yes. Is it expensive? Definitely. At 9:05 he says the phillips screwdriver bits on this can give you more torque than a lot of screwdrivers! Seriously? I would bet that a full size phillips screwdriver gives you more torque and is much faster to use. At 9:55 he starts talking about the allen heads, but he call them phillips. Never heard of a allen wrench tool call a phillips before. Cool tool? Yes. Worth the money? No. You can buy pretty good quality full size tools for the price of this and still have some cash left over. I understand the argument that this is man jewelry, like a watch, but many consider a watch a status symbol for a man. A Rolex is a perfect example. Generally, men don't wear bracelets as status symbols. Overall, I think it's a fail.

    that hook will snag with knit wear easily, also who spends that money for a bottle opener whe you can pop it with a lighter and then there is the fact that when using ex. the philips screwhead you will scratch the surface with the adjacent fitting

  • @ScorpionRegent

    $165? Not going to happen. For me a multi tool is something I have on me to conveniently do tasks. An awkward bracelet is not my idea of a tool I'm going to reach for to solve problems. Some one will buy it and I wish them happiness, but I don't know that person. Multi tools have helped me out through the years, but more than anything they have taught me, is when it comes down to doing the job right there is no substitute for the proper tool. I have jewelry and I have tools. For me the two are mutually exclusive.

    Glass jars are not only "not designed to shatter" they're designed NOT to shatter in a standing position, the bottom of glass jars are concave/convex (depending on pov) for a reason, you gave ample proof of that
    I don't think you didn't know this already, you don't strike me as someone who fell asleep during physics class ;)
    A good example of applied physics
    Students who think there's no point in paying attention in class because they believe there's no practical use or reason are just not thinking straight
    Unless they're under 15 (a "merciful" estimate imo)
    My 7/8th grade geography teacher used to say "you're here anyway, you might just as well learn something"
    Besides basic geography (I dropped geo. in 8th grade), I learned he was right

    "From a functional standpoint, no, come on..." That's where I bailed, because carrying a $165 half-pound of steel on my wrist as 'man jewelry' just doesn't figure in my life. But hey, there are feminine types that might need some 'manliness' on them.

    They could have easily made every bit on the links that press/glue in type so we can get better steel on them, at this price point especially since one of the major selling factors they point out is the belt cutter, why not just go the extra mile and charge us the extra $30-50.With this tool being above the $100 mark, most people buying this would hardly mind it I'm sure. As you said, hopefully with the next iteration of the tool we'll see some improvements.
