There was a fan-hack called "Sonic Tetris" a few years ago, which was basically just Sonic 1 but with the special stages replaced with a version of Tetris B-type (clear 25 lines to earn a chaos emerald).
I know, you'll say: "It's fanon, it doesn’t count", but the official Sonic Twitter recently said bluntly: "Everything is canon", so I'd say it counts.

Puyo Puyo is largely a game about playing smarter, not just faster. And while it's obviously best to be able to play both smart and fast, the quick drop encourages braindead strats like frog stacking (just throwing all your pieces into the three right-most columns as fast as you can and hoping something good happens) at lower levels of play. And at higher levels of play, the benefits one gets from the quick drop is negligible at best.

@@DaneeBound I think maybe it should be default against Tetris? Just like how Tetris gets a gauge against Puyo. As a Puyo main, I've come up against far too many Tetris mains who love to spam T-spin doubles and deny me any chance to build. The only way to combat them is Devil Counter on the 3 right columns, and even then it's not guaranteed to work.
Granted, it's not the Tetris' players faults that they can use whatever strategy they want against a Puyo player, but Puyo's speedcap without quick drop makes it too difficult to catch up. This ends up leading to ranking boards looking more like exclusively Tetris mains the higher ya climb.
