I travelled on PS RYDE many times in the 60’s ( yes I’m getting on a bit ) when I used to commute to the Island. It was really impressive to looking into the engine room. I also visited her when she became a disco/night club. Such a shame to see such a historic vessel lost.
nice one Jim, I used to work on the PS Waverley back in the 1980s I was party of a salvage party aboard the PS Ryde (she was already detriorating at that point) and a few items were retrieved from her for Waverley including her capstan which is used to this day aboard Waverley, so a piece of Ryde at still sails on today.
Is it possible to cross the mud to get up close? I would love to try and get onboard to see what is still there, though I obviously wouldn't take anything, or damage the ship any further.
It's been a couple of years since I last went but when I did the ship was surrounded in salt marsh. Did give it a go but my feet sank into it so would definitely say not to. Also the structural integrity of the ship is very bad - especially after the bridge superstructure collapsed a few years ago. My advice would be to admire from a distance👍
A really informative video. It's such a shame to see the wreck deteriorate so much. Thanks for posting it.
Thanks! It really is a shame that a ship with so much history could end up like this
