    Beautiful cheap camping - under $30/night - near the Redwoods National & State Parks can be difficult to find. After boondocking 5 nights at Florence Keller County Park & Campground I can tell you this is an excellent place to affordably camp among the redwoods. There are plenty of amenities here too! Just be careful on the roads in, they're narrow with trees closely lining the road in spots making it difficult for large rigs to camp here.

    We are staying here right now. They raised the price to $20 a night. Beautiful area . Thanks for the campsite review.

    • @FateUnbound
      @FateUnbound  5 років тому

      That stinks about the price increase, but it is such a nice park despite not having any hookups. It sorta gives that "in the forest" feel without actually being in the forest. Enjoy!

    Yup, Northern California has lots of small sites in the mountains and on the coast. With large RV's your going to be vary limited in State and Federal park's. But we live in and love the redwood forest, So any effort you make is always truly worth it, is our opinion. Yes, amazing the redwood forest is with mountains, rivers, beaches and lots of wildlife. it's truly beautiful.
    Awesome video information, thank you for sharing!

    Another great campground review! Hubby and I tent-camped at Jedediah Smith back in the mid-90’s, and we’ve enjoyed reminiscing about that trip through your videos from the redwoods. Safe travels!

      We thought about camping at Jedediah Smith but the price is over double so we decided not to, maybe next time!

    Great alternative to Jedediah Smith! One of the reasons we went small with our trailer, was to have options such as this place - will add to our list! Loved the trashcans and the limit on loud generators. Panther Flat to the East of Jedediah Smith is also beautiful and right on the river. Thanks!

    We stayed at a KOA in Crescent City in 1984 first and last time in a private campground, it was ok (not our favorite way of camping) I think that’s Big Foot country 😂 I remember Big Foot statues around that area. Also there used to be a redwood cabin you could visit, the bark was alive so the cabin was growing

    • @FateUnbound
      @FateUnbound  6 років тому

      It is for sure Big Foot country there haha, big foot stuff EVERYWHERE! I have not even heard of the growing redwood cabin, we'll have to check it out the next time we're in the area!

    Another great review of a beautiful place. Years ago, we tent camped at Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park. It was amazing. Think it was a little south of Crescent City.

    • @FateUnbound
      @FateUnbound  6 років тому

      Yes, that State Park is a little south of Crescent City, but there's not signal there. We really did want to camp in a Redwoods State Park but with no signal, no sunshine, and the higher price we just couldn't do it this time haha

    I feel like we need to follow you guys around the country. You seem to have a real knack for finding the cheapest and free spots without sacrificing natural scenery. Don't know how you do it .... yes, I know all the apps and sites people use but I still don't have the kind of luck (?) you guys seem to have :-)

    • @FateUnbound
      @FateUnbound  6 років тому +1

      We basically rely heavily on the apps and websites to help us find our next spot, sometimes we wish we had gone somewhere else that maybe was more private or more secluded, but for the most part we've like all the places we've been haha, it takes a ton of practice haha

    • @TravelswithYoly
      @TravelswithYoly 6 років тому +1

      Freecampsites.net, Campendium, Allstays .... we use them all but seldom find an option close to us or along our route :-(

    • @FateUnbound
      @FateUnbound  6 років тому +1

      Those are the three we use too. Sometimes we have to stay upwards of 50 miles away from where we want to visit in order to find a site we really like

    • @TravelswithYoly
      @TravelswithYoly 6 років тому +1

      Unfortunately I'm one of those plan ahead people (trying to break the habit, honest). Depending on season and popularity of destinations I feel like I have to plan ahead (places like Banff & Jasper, Glacier & Yellowstone NPs) which forces you to keep a schedule without the freedom to venture far off the planned route.

    Wonderful review...you hit all the important information. Was wondering if you need any type of reservation or is it whatever is available when you come? Would be interested in how you guys make or don't make reservations.....heard it is becoming a big issue these days even before or after the summer stampede. Keep up the great work!

    • @FateUnbound
      @FateUnbound  6 років тому +1

      Good question, this is a first come first serve campground, but I've been informed by the parks department that they are looking to make the stay restriction longer and also allow reservations but I'm not sure when either of these will be implemented.

    It's not easy to just use solar, either because of cloudy weather or because you want to be in shade when it is hot. It's annoying that they don't make really quiet generators. I have a $250 inverter generator, only 700 watts, but it is fine for battery charging. The gripe is that it is fairly quiet, but not really quiet. I'm not sure if they could make a really quiet inverter generator. I've seen people on YT who had little sound insulated 'houses' to put over the generator. You have to keep them cool and provide fresh air for the motors. Maybe the people who run the parks could have little generator houses at each site.
    ua-cam.com/video/ZFl_sUUHL9g/v-deo.html
    If you Google something like 'generator sound enclosure' you get some ideas.
    Great information. A five day limit suggests some heavy usage. People want to boondock all the time but then they get into these very popular areas and it's hard to do. The next 2 months are the 'crush' time anyway.

    • @FateUnbound
      @FateUnbound  6 років тому +1

      We've never heard of a generator house, that's very interesting. If we used it often we may consider it, but as it stands we barely use it haha. We are worried about the availability of dry camping in some areas we're headed too, hopefully it's not too packed!
