As a kid, I used to see this in borugulu batti when my grand mother used to send me to get jonnalu (jowar) puffed at those shops before Toli Ekadasi. I'm surprised at questions about the used salt. lol.. salt is cheap, don't cry! Moreover, I keep it aside in a jar and use it every time I want to dry-roast seeds and grains. I dry-roast peanuts in salt like this for even roasting compared to direct dry-roasting in a pan. And keep using it forever even if it becomes black like coal, no problem, you're not eating it. And again, salt is cheap, don't cry lol
