I dont even think it was just that. I think he was just trying to comply. Cause after he came out with his hands up they told him to get on the ground and i think as he was trying to do that as they started tackling him. They couldnt wait a moment for him to listen and started forcefully making him do it. But i agree he was trying to get down safely but they just wanted him to fall face forward on the asphalt street.

This shit only happen in America man. It needs to be stopped. You pay so much tax for the city and this is how they use it. The police never held responsibility. Nothing changed. How the fuk they came up with 1 million dollars compensation? That makes no sense. A normal guy like me would bust his ass for 20-25 years to make that kind of money and he doesn't get to spend most of it.

      I agree completely.
Some people in the comment section are saying they would take that beating for the cash.
To me that's a very one dimensional way of looking at it. \
This was my comment to them:
Maybe, but think about it this way. When you say that, you are basically describing a situation in which you know it is coming.
This fellow is/was a phd student. Let's look at what his earning potential is. let's say he's going to earn 100K a year, for the next thirty years. That's 3 million dollars.
This situation, what happened that night, is much more than just a physical hardship. The worst part is what happens to the person mentally.
What if this person gets ptsd? Probably a good chance of that, wouldn't you say?
Would you want to trade that slice of mental health for 1.25 million dollars. To be affected like that for the rest of your life? Maybe you can't focus enough anymore, and you/he drops out of the phd program? Can't really function enough to earn a good wage?
So he just traded the 3 million he would have made, and the mental happiness, for 1.25 million, and a lifetime of mental anguish.
And guess what, he is no longer competent to handle that 1.25 million in a healthy manner, so it gets wasted inside of 5 years.

      John Smith
Let's consider some different outcomes to meet realistic expectations:
What if that dash cam had not existed? Sure, the likelihood of paranoia around police and PTSD could arise. However, what would destroy me the most would be the following: not finding justice in this ordeal, not having the court believe you that you were assaulted, and living the rest of your life with a criminal record. This WOULD have happened if that dash cam was not there.
Thanks to the dash cam, he proved his innocence. The likelihood of mental instability from this ordeal? Possibly. However, he received 1.25 million, and he's no longer falsely accused of crimes.
He most definitely underwent horrible circumstances, and he could have probably been better off not going through this event. In this case, however, he experienced it, and he found justice and compensation (for the most part); he's still young and has a long life ahead of him.
Overall, I believe not finding justice would have been far worse than a bit of mental trauma.

Joe/David, legal settlements are taxable if the basis of the award is punitive/emotional damages which it appears are the circumstances here between Lawrence and the City of Evanston. If the basis of the claims were physical injuries caused to Lawrence (even if those were interspersed with emotional and punitive damages), then that money is non-taxable.

tiff dont be that guy... the guy was not turning he had his hands up *clearly* and heard a cop say get on the ground and just as he was bringing his arms down to get on the ground he realized he was being rushed and *BRACED* himself for the impact. I see nothing of him turning whatsoever as you mentioned.

They were talking about how they can see how the police could have had a completely innocent reason for doing what they did. All they said was they can see the otherside of it even if they dont agree...Saying that there could be a lot of different reasons doesnt mean youre defending them. If you think that youre very slow. in the head bud. Also they stated that the fully agree with everyone else. What the police did was aggressive and wrong. Stop choosing to only hear what you want

@@mywillyfelloff1617 She literally pointed to a point in the video where it seemed like the Black man did something wrong and stated that he didn't comply and didn't get on the ground. Why do you think they spoke about what the police instructions were? You clearly missed that part. Everyone else except for Joe and Tiff were saying how terrible it was and never once defended the cops. You are mistaken.

This really is Dave Chappelle comedy style, which he adds truth to. Well, all know things changed during her call to the police when they asked her the description of the man and she basically said *"black,* between 5'7 and 6'10, seems like he has 136 guns on him, 6 knifes, 2 machetes, and he looks like he should be in jail. Hurry!!" And then all the police cars and officers show up. She must've exaggerated the hell out of it.
