Kausarnag or Vishnu Pad? || Crown Jewel of Alpine Lakes, Kashmir

- Kousarnag, known as the crown jewel of Alpine Lakes, is the second largest high-altitude lake in the Valley with an area of 110 Hectares. Literally ‘Kausar Nag’ means a spring which gifts life in Islamic literature and Hindus call it ‘Vishnu Pad’, meaning, ‘Foot of Lord Vishnu’. Nestled in the lap of Pir Panjal Range, this beautiful lake is located at an altitude of around 3500m ASL with around 2.75 kms in length and 700m at the widest point. Surrounded by the mighty peaks of the Pir Panjal by east and west, this high-altitude enchanting lake, apparently has no visible water outlet. The Ice bergs remain floating in the lake for the whole summer on Its magical sapphire blue water. The beaten track starting from Gurwattan and passes through different scenic meadows and pastures leading to this pristine lake, gives spectacular views of nature on the way. The trek is almost moderate up to Mahinag, but the trail ahead ascending to the top is a bit challenging. This is the safest and most convenient route known to the people passionate in trekking. While there are several other known tracks approaching to this destination, but they are extremely dangerous and better to avoid them. Horses and potters can be easily hired on reasonable rates by the trekkers visiting Kounsernag.
Best season to visit the lake is June to September.

You can trek without anyone's assistance in an alpine style. If not, you can hire a pony/porter near Gurwatan Aharbal and carry your own tent for night camping.
Or, you can book your slot online with any Adventure Tour Operators if available.

@@uzairr_wanii agar ish audience ko increase karna hai toh Hindi toh use karni padegi dost. Hume kya chahiye ya Hume kya pasand hai kewal ish cheez se channel grow nhi hota. Audience ko kya chahiye aur unko kya pasand hai ye dekhna aur karna padta hai. Jo log Kashmir mein rahte hain unko toh wahan ki beauty ka patta hai. Channel ke through aap bahar ke logo ko batao ki Kashmir kitna sundar hai taki Kashmir ka tourism badhe aur local logo ki income bhi badhe. Agar hum apne mein he kho jayenge aur dusro ke liye kuch bhi nhi krenge toh hamara insan hone ka koi matlab nhi rah jayega.

Ab aap agar ye bologe ki Hindi he kyu English bhi toh ho sakti hai toh mere se jayada aapko patta hoga ki India mein sabse jayada samjhi jane wali language Hindi he hai.

@KashmirBackpackerr Gangabal is smaller than kousarnag, i think. Gangabal is 2.7km and kousarnag is 3km.
Kousarnag is about 80 hectares smaller than Gangbal.
Plus, kausarnag is only 2 kms in length approximately.
@KashmirBackpackerr Fortunately, I have visited both. But have considered kousarnag larger than gangabal. Thanks and continue the goodwork.
