I concur. Trying to find the good in a movie is more valuable than ripping into it for ripping's sake.
YES. This tone was so fun and a welcome subversion. Fully seconding that last sentence.
My girlfriend actually big-brained a really good theory about the shoe. Similarly to the alien, the monkey was raging out territorily about eye contact, which is often seen as aggression in the animal kingdom. The reason the shoe standing up is important, is that the boy was staring at the shoe, instead of making eye contact with the monkey, which is why he didn't die, similarly to how they don't look at the alien in order for it to not attack them.
That’s not what E;R or anyone’s problem with the shoe is about though - how tf is the shoe standing is our question

A level headed review of a Peele movie that doesn't just give it unearned praise because muh black director with Gem dictated diversity themes? E;R is the hero we need.
Calm down, sperg
This is such a stupid comment. The reason that the movie has gotten so much praise has almost nothing to do with the fact that he's black, and more that he's creating unique stories to tell for entertainment that the majority of people find great pleasure in. It makes sense that his films have themes about diversity though since he comes from a place where that's part of his everyday life but saying that people give the films unearned praise because of his race is dumb.

I always felt that Peele has a talent for horror, but is held back by bad writing and misplaced humor. His strengths though are his general ideas, cinematography and musical score. It seems like he's starting to fine tune his craft.
It seems like fine tuning but he got it dead on in get out and it seems to be getting worse imo
@@benzo546 understandable. Personally I think Get Out was overrated. It's not a bad movie, but I felt like his ideas are better than the final results. Like the idea of rich people body snatching and wearing other humans as clothing is creepy as hell. Us was definitely a step down, but Nope is a step back in the right direction. I think he needs better screenwriters. Also, I can't forgive him for what he did to Candyman, but that's just a personal grievance.

The last air bender? Nah, Peele would definitely choose the Legend of Whorra as his go to remake. The question is though, would it be better than the original?
Peele’s remake of Legend of Whorra would either be slightly worst than Legend of Whorra, or it would be equally as terrible as Legend of Whorra, but it wouldn’t be a huge improvement over that series.
Yes, easily.
I can’t hear that “yes all white people” clip without hearing one of my favorite bits of yours, the “all white people are firebenders”. Never change E;R, never change!
I swear this has to be a record number of uploads in one year for E;R
My problem with Peele's movies is in at least 2 of them so far (never seen Us), he always has his characters like "By the way, I'm black". Like, the first trailer for Nope just had to start off with "we're the first black horse owners."
And honestly, Get Out is pretty overrated. Everyone calls it the best horror movie ever, but it is really just a decent dark comedy at best. The whole plot of the movie is just "White people are weird... and racist." If it didn't have a kind of interesting directing style, it would have nothing going for it.
Correct. Get Out was just OK.
Get out was just a bland version of skeleton key.
If I recall correctly, Us didn't do that, the main characters were just black and Peele didn't attempt to intertwine it into the story at all
@@friendofp.24 uh, the entire story is based around the concept of race and how black people feel excluded or different from the rest of america.
It inherently has to have them as black for the point to get across because without the family being black, you just get a story about societal alienation instead.
@@mikoi7472 From Peele's perspective its how black people CAN feel excluded or different. Which is why the family needs to be black, its a personal story for him I suppose. I need to say that because you can say this about pretty much any race. It just comes off as far more effective for blacks, because race politics.
The creature doesn't always spit up blood. It only did it when the fake horse was stuck in its throat. Jupe looking at the shoe instead of the chimp is the only reason he survived. That's the literal reason for the horses.
I enjoyed that Nope's metaphorical message was more to do with the Hollywood system and it's maltreatment of people and animals and the thin veil between entertainment and abuse. It not being, "White people bad," was a nice change of pace. Plus I liked the alien thing, it being fairly aggressive and showing up in broad daylight was a cool surprise.
thanks for your opinion. i may check it out.
@@SilverNomadTV I highly recommend it, people are being overly critical lately but this movie in particular is worth it just to experience in the theater. I promise you, you will enjoy it!

Considering they way I understood Get Out was “white liberals that idealize black people so much that they basically want to be black” as opposed to just “white people bad”, this doesn’t really surprise me.
It would honestly be hilarious if they made the fire nation all white, because that means the most technologically advanced and powerful nation in their avatar universe are whites, and leading into Whorra, whites would be necessary for most every form of technological advancement within their avatar universe.
Honestly, when the Shamalan movie came out I thought they were going to make them white. That would have been much more justifiable instead of what they actually did with the water tribe.

The last 3rd of trying to catch the alien on camera was very well done. Especially how the alien transforms into a insane abstract monster. It adds a layer of surreal “wtf” to give the movie more of a twist by the end, throwing something unexpected after you think you fully understand the creature.
It was also genuinely exciting. I can't think of a movie that made me as excited as the last act of Nope since I saw Episode 3 on opening day (I was 9, cut me some slack)
YOOO! Glad to see that you're still kicking it! The video didn't disappoint the great expectations you've raised after the high quality content you routinely manage to make!
Huh neat. I agree, it really was Peele's best movie. It was his first movie I watched because the subject matter wasn't unbearably annoying.
Oh wow! A black man who’s dealt with systematic racism his entire life wants to talk about systematic racism in HIS projects? So annoying!
In all seriousness, if you really can’t stand to hear about racism that much then why the hell are you even watching movies about racism? Are you braindead? Just say you’re racist and go bruh💀
I wonder if his movies are a cry for help for how he's treated in hollywood.
Then again, nobody's forcing him to be the dancing monkey for the nosey bosses.
I heard the shoe in the monkey scene was establishing the "don't look in the eyes of the creature" rule. Ricky didn't look at the monkey's eyes once throughout the whole incident because he was distracted with the perfectly coincidently placement of the shoe. The part where the monkey was approaching him the table cloth was in the way of their line of sight. Basically he was saved by miracles. That moment did get him to think he was able to over come anything. Like him thinking he can over come the alien and tame it.
That's actually smart, just maybe not explained properly with the visuals.
That's nice, its still pretty dumb but at least someone is trying to make sense of it.
good catch?
At risk of sounding pretentious, this is why films need themes. It does a nice job of setting up the parallels from the get go ensuring that the imagery will linger the longest out of any part of the movie. Its a shame imo the emphasis is mainly focused on the poor cg for the animal tho, pretty unfortunate.
The fact that you had to look this up separately in order for it to make sense just makes the scene even more stupid.
Years from now people will look back at Peeles movies wondering why anyone likes them.
That's assuming things get better. If shit gets worse they might see him as a pioneer of black cinema or some shit

But knowing peele it's more of his agenda than that, which makes me dislike his movies because I'm tired of Hollywood pulling this junk already.

Exactly. If he just wanted to make movies with mostly black people that's fine. I'm sure blacks have wanted that for a while. I just hate when its like "it's about racism bro did you know racism is bad racism is bad this movie is about racism". Grow up.
I loved Peele in Key and Peele, but Candyman filled me with rage that has yet to fully subside because I hate racism and he uses antiracism as a cover for his racism. So I appreciate the possibility for redemption. Even if it's only in the form of reprioritizing good filmmaking.
Seems ya behind the times. You can't just hate racism. You have to be actively anti-racist, which means the more racist you are the better. The only way to fight fire is with fire, I guess.
What the hell did Candyman do that was secretly racist? Also, he was barley involved in that movie, just produced it.
@@Mrreebo Peele co-wrote the script. The Candyman only kills white people. All these white people are portrayed as either racists, bad, unsympathetic or uncaring, so it's justified that they die a horrible death, I guess. Of course the first policemen to enter the scene is a white dude that just starts to shoot at the poor black man. The original film from 1992 has very subtle racial undertones, while the original Candyman was gruesome to everyone equally. Nowadays, Candyman is literally a BLM activist.
Holy shit, I’d deleted every memory of mundane Matt and now you’ve brought them back
It's always nice to catch an E;R video out in the wild, I had feared that we overfished him, so I'm glad my fears were misplaced. As for modern audiences, I agree wholeheartedly that they have gotten dumber over the last decade or so, well that and people expectations are at the bottom of the ocean. So, when I see people such as yourself saying (some) good things these films', especially since they are mostly made by woke ideologues, I'm not really that surprised. It's just a shame the Overton Window has shifted to insanity to such a degree.
I don’t think audiences have gotten dumber, I think the market has gotten bugger and appealing to more people means stripping back much more depth from movies. Smaller movies can still be intelligent, but larger movies almost never are.
Everything Everywhere All at Once is one of my favorite movies of the decade, and it only hit 100 million in box office. PIG, starting Nick Cage only hit 4 million. Total. Good movies can exist, but they’ll never hit the audience of like, a disney film. Even extremely whatever movies like Raya hit 130 million

2:39 bruh that's straight up a fatality, i didn't know horses could do that.
Me either, and I've been riding for years! Good thing she shifted to the side or else she would have been crushed.
@@viron6734 i don't know, i would say she broke some bones after that fall... If not the spine. (Even if she shifted to the side).
@@CameraPunk5049 She fell on her hips so left leg definitely had some damage and maybe if she fell on her butt she got away clean, also the grass could make it a little bit softer.
They can do that but not without risk, sometimes they break their own necks or backs if they go up and backward. It’s the single most dangerous behavior a horse can exhibit both for horse and rider.
I like how when the horse flips back she throws her hand out like she's bull riding. Then she tries to catch herself with it.
I really liked Steven Yuen in this movie. He was fun as a douche that really overestimated how capable he was. I just liked this movie was more than Us and Get out. Good review. Cheers.
That “Ay Tone” moment made this even better.
It must suck to only have one good story in you, but it's the first one you tell, then you just have to keep going.
9:05 I wish most of these black Americans would spend just one day *JUST ONE DAY* in Africa like the rest of us black people do and then later dare speak about how "racist and oppressive" America or any other western country is. This stupid obsession they have with victimhood and race is just a symptom of being born into a land and culture where they have more privilege and opportunities to succeed and live comfortably compared to anyone else on earth yet they simply refuse to either due to laziness or incompetence.

Good to see ya back! And damn, a positive review? It's good to see ya having fun, even tho I love watching you ripping dumb stuff to shreds XD
Very surprised this movie did not highlight the long history of African horse culture dating back to when they were kings.
Watching before it gets taken down like a true E;R fan
Jordan Peele is a man with good ideas and nothing more. He cares more about certain novelties of his story but doesn't bother to explain the stuff around it that doesn't make sense. I'm infuriated how people buy into his schtick and handwave away certain nonsensical elements of his storytelling as though it was artfully left for the viewers to figure out; when really it's just bad writing.
It's frustrating to watch his films. A few amendments and adjustments here and there would 'complete' his films. Frustrating because I genuinely enjoy watching them but I can't ignore certain inconsistencies - and I'm a guy that is usually willing to suspend his disbelief.
0:45 lmao at the mauler visual to "objective" 😂

I agree with that chimp scene. Honestly, after the stuff I've read up on and watched about 'pet' chimpanzees going berserk and brutally injuring their owners (let alone what they're actually like in the wild *shudders* ) already kinda put me on edge with those animals, so that opening scene with the chimp having killed a bunch of actors on a cutesy happy-looking sitcom set was a really haunting visual...but they ruined it by returning to it again and extending it.
Also, great review. It's nice to know that you don't just arbitrarily praise or rant at Jordan Peele movies, but judge them fairly.
(also, I shouldn't have laughed so much at that Melonlord bit....but that fucking killed me.)
Loved the Vaush cameo
I’ll give Glenn some slack, chimpanzees are the only animal that scare me.
I totally understand.
I don't like BLM either.
So nice to see new E;R pop up in my "recommended" and "recently updated" rows on the XBONE UA-cams. Please, for some more, kind sir.

It only spit blood in that one scene because it was a kind of intimidation tactic. Angel and Em were in the house, and OJ explained earlier that Jean Jacket's territorial, so it was likely trying to intimidate them since it couldn't eat them without sucking up the house too. This animal is an unknown entity and the whole point of the movie is that the characters are guessing at its motives and the reasons why it does what it does, so that's my theory but I think it makes the most sense. Besides, it's not like a mouth can only do one thing. We can spit, barf, yell, etc. Maybe Jean Jacket can choose whether to spit up just coins and keys and that, or blood.

I liked seeing E;R enjoy something! I'm so used to him ripping films to shreds that I got caught off guard when this ended up becoming a positive review of Nope. I do agree that its leagues better than Get Out, though it still has some issues.
I wonder why you were surprised he liked it?
@@cianbroderick4145 because of his review of the previous Peele films, I had a feeling that he thought Peele was a bad director but even I was impressed by this movie
It just being Jordan Peele, I gave it a HARD pass. And I will continue to, anything made by Jordan Peele.
Jordan Peele is a good director but aight, it's the Taika Waititi effect I guess of one bad movie and pretending like he's always been a bad director lmao.
If you can watch dumb shit like Michael Bay and be fine you can be fine with this, the movies aren't even bad.

With the release of Glass Onion, I believe the time is ripe for a critique of Knives Out.
Anyone else glad Keegan Michael Key has stayed as the true and humble comedy actor for the most part? I like Jordan Peele, but I don't think everything he does is gold like the Twitter folks do.
Get Out and Black Panther were fine films, good even. But let's be real, their extraordinary success and the manner in which they've been lauded wasn't a result of them setting a new standard in film making, creativity, acting, or literally anything like that.
