Very good video. I've seen several about this incident and it was quite well documented. However, I don't think they were dragged out to the posts, they were matched out with the soldiers prior to their execution.

They were not commandos, they were ordinary soldiers put into a special operations group. They had no special training. This was not a commando mission in the traditional sense.

I've seen the videos of the executions a number of times in connection with The Battle of The Bulge. I've always been a bit curious who some of the Germans were that were shot. Thank you for the story.

I was stationed in Germany, one December all of the lieutenants took 5 days leave to walk/drive the Bulge. One of my peers was damn near pathological about finding the building where these fellas were executed. Not my cup of tea, but “all for one”. It was rather creepy.

Not ruthlessly executed. The Jewish victims of the death camps were ruthlessly executed. He was given a soldier’s death.

The Americans were really frightened of the German commando's, Bradley was hiding in his Luxemburg villa for most of the Ardennes offensive. Eisenhower ordered British General Montgomery to take command of US Armies for the duration of the battle. Bradley and many senior US Officers were furious at Eisenhower's decision to sideline Bradley, threatening to resign. However Eisenhower stuck to his decision, placating Bradley by promoting him for winning the battle he never actually took part in.

Montgomery was responsible for the Market Garden fiasco that got thousands of allied soldiers KIA. He was the worst commanding officer on the allied side. Even the Germans thought he was basically incompetent.

Not entirely accurate, Ike tasked Monty with the units North of the bulge salient for tactical purposes. Bradley wasn’t happy, but Ike said “those are my orders Brad.” and hung up.

@@NewbieNewfie No, Bradley was in his Luxemburg villa, he had done nothing since the German attack on the 16th despite early warnings from Walter Bedell Smith on the14 December. The 12th Army Group had no effective, command, which is why Ike put Monty in charge on the 20th for the duration of the battle. The US 1st and 9th Armies were placed under Monty's 21st Army Group.
The truth is that this was the first time 12th Army Group had been attacked in force, and they panicked. The rest was Eisenhower's botched attempt at saving face. Trying to get Monty fired for winning the battle, that wasn't going to fly.

Just for info, the bunker they were shot behind still exists, although the stakes have long gone.
It's chilling to think that the bullets which killed these - and others, too - are almost certainly still in the ground in the vicinity.

Even thought these are very interesting and well-done stories, the narrator's voice/accent is so annoying to me that I almost don't want to watch this channel.

Oh look, a zero content account complaining. How Karen-like. It's not that hard to understand unless one has the intelligence of a bag of rocks who has never lived anywhere else other than home.
