I got this when it came out, and still have my original disc, guidebook (which I got before the game), and mousepad. I cant tell you how many hours i poured into this game and replaying it, but being on Tatooine as Qui-Gon is probably one of my favorite experiences in a Star Wars game due to the many choices the developers allowed. 1999 was a fantastic time to be a Star Wars fan, it felt like there were endless possibilities in a vast galaxy. It was a wonderful introduction to the Prequel world through the media the surrounded the actual movies. They are some of my best memories and I'll always cherish them.
@Twillek1019_ Only Ratchet and Clank and Spiderman are first party games from what you listed. First party means they were developed directly by Sony for the PS5.
5:26 as a kid i always used to throw a flash grenade at the decoys (which includes the real Queen) just as the cutscene triggers with Qui Gon. The ending cutscene would trigger normaly with the ship flying out of the hangar, but this time leaving the handmaiden corpses behind 😂 ooops! (It also works with Anakin on encounter in the desert! Leave his corpse in the sand as QuiGon flies off with his new T-14 😅 Cheers Watto!)
Once the rancor and Qui Gon killed each other at the exact same time. Triggering both a game over title screen and post victory dialogue. I also once remember a droid tripping over the lightsaber of Obi Wan's dead corpse and it died 😂. He literally killed somebody after the game over screen.
Fun fact: Captain Panaka in brazilian portuguese can be roughly translated to "Captain Idiot". Star Wars is infamous for having a very concerning number of names that means funny/inconvenient things in brazilian portuguese.
@@liamcullen3035 The most infamous one is probably Count Dooku, in portuguese, "do" is an preposition which usually means "from" or "belongs to" and the word "cu" is slang for ass, so he's the "Count Of the Ass". The official translation changed his name to Count Dookan. Another one is the Planet Utapau where Obi-wan fights General Grievous in Episode 3, there's the Pau City located in the Pau Sinkhole, "pau" is another slang, but for dick, so Obi-wan fought Grievous in "Dick City" inside the "Dick Sinkhole".

8:49, not sure it occurs on the PS version, but on PC, if you jump on stage... you may have a surprise... a violent one. Loved the game as a kid. Looking back, it was quite unique that you could influence the game through a choice of dialogues. The violence though... also unique for a game, especially a one for the wider public.
Back then we had a few moments of devs pushing things past the censors, dismemberment in Jedi Outcast/Academy was rare enough to pass the rating boards (you could cheat it to max tho it ruins all balance since now running into enemies exploded them), and in Force Unleashed 2 they _blatantly lied_ and claimed Stormtroopers were all totally robots, so we got the last proper Star Wars game with libs flying around.
...to be honest... I really liked the game. I played it with my dad when I was a kid. ...was a bit bummed out that you didn't get to take part in the race, but it was still a good fun. Also, cheesing the final battle with Darth Maul by shooting rockets at him instead of pushing him into a hole was the moment when I became a gaming munchkin, heh.

NO WAY. I LOVE this game! It might actually be the first ever game I ever played in my entire life. Utterly iconic, was thinking about it yesterday actually. Glad to see it's getting new life. :) Although I am adamant that they should keep the PS1 pixel graphics, as opposed to the smooth PC version.
Still my favorite SW game to this day. Wish Ep 2 & 3 (heck, even 4,5 & 6) got games in this style with refined controls and a manual camera, and vehicles. Out of all the games, the laser deflection in it feels the best to me.
There is a level in this game when you land on tatooine and you have to run around Mos Eisley and solve everyone’s problems. It was my favorite level in any game ever cause it really felt like you were a Jedi and this was your day to day life . God I miss being a kid
I played this game on PC as a kid with a logitech rumblepad. I think I remember it more because of the weird gamepad, I never got past the Obi-Wan bit in the city at the beginning. 10/10
I played this on PC back in the day and I remember little 7 year old me feeling sorry for PlayStation players when I saw how crap the graphics were in comparison. I also remember beating Darth Maul by hiding in the corner of the laser shield gate and relentlessly firing on him as he failed to block 1 in 3 shots. Legendary game
I hate the attitude of the headlines you showed. It's a heavily flawed game, but it did more than enough interesting things to deserve preservation. Game preservation isn't given enough respect.
Good to see this classic come to modern consoles, I guess it was head of its time. Now if we can just get a port of og battlefront 2 and KOTOR 2 w restored content mod, that would be amazing
Honestly, KOTOR 2 is real good on PC now, what we need is a good remaster of the first game, they have different devs so might be rights holder conflict (the Obsidian one got updated, Bioware first Knights did not).
I like how they couldn’t get Natalie Portman to voice the Queen so instead they got the woman who does Catwoman in the Arkham games. Seeing this, I keep thinking Padme isn’t falling behind but actually intentionally wandering off to loot the place before her escort notices
one thing i loved about movie licensed games like this one is that show what you haven't seen on camera, like wandering about the federation ship or the gungan city, in the movie it cuts from entering the gungan city to being with the boss nass
A Battlefront 2 classic port was planned, but it was going to be the PSP version, which is objectively the WORST version as it's missing so much stuff including several maps, capital ship interiors, several game modes, and the entire 501st campaign (which was replaced by a challenge mode).
@@-CrimsoN-hot take but I’d be ok with that because the PS2 version is inferior to the Xbox port, so having a slightly different version on modern hardware would be really cool
@@varsityreviews707 It would have been the PSP version. Not the PS2 version. The PS2 version wouldn't have been so bad since about the only thing you'd lose are AI heroes (which are also absent on the PC version, but can be restored with mods). The PSP version was entirely different and easily the worst version since you'd be losing actual maps and content in the form of game modes plus the entire 501st campaign.

This is a pleasant surprise! I used to play this game in the house of a friend, so, my experience was basically playing the best parts of the game and wishing for one day to own it. Well, my time has come!.
I had fond memories playing this game. It certainly has a certain charm to its flawed design. Glad to know we can play it again. Maybe wishful thinking, but would be awesome if they remaster this or remake this.
This game is unironically brilliant, especially the two Tatooine levels. What the f*ck is wrong with journalists who stil try to pretend that the PT and everything related to them is bad. TPM on PS1/PC f*cking mogs anything released in the last few years. Modern gaming sucks. The level of soul put into TPM on PS1 is unreal, PC version is even better.
TPM game is rushed, broken, unfinished mess that has you stuck in walls and lightsabers looking like triangles. There are MANY good Episode 1 games, from racing ones to obscure Gungan planet ecosystem simulator, but Phantom Menace is genuinely poorly made. Just because we enjoy it _despite_ how broken it is doesn't change the fact it was Mass Effect Andromeda of the time.
@@KasumiRINA Awful take. I've never had a game breaking glitch or become stuck on walls. The amount of soul put into the TPM game is amazing. What's broken about it? The lightsaber combat is second to none, still no Star Wars game has come up with a more satisfying deflection combat system. I've played a lot of the Phantom Menace's games and Lego Star Wars is the only one that rivals it really. The only issues with the TPM game is no podrace, and the last two levels of Theed Palace are rushed unfortunately. But everything up until then is absolutely not rushed. Every time I replay it I discover new secret areas or little hidden things. I don't understand how people can dislike this game. It had so much effort put into it. And in terms of level design and sense of exploration, few games surpass it.
I used to go over to my friends house, and we'd play this for hours. I never had a console, so it was my only chance to play. LOVED IT. Its still fun to this day! HAppy we got a PS5 port. Even though it would have been nice if we got a remaster instead. But regardless, happy to play this game again!
I finally got to try Dreamcast version after playing GBA and PS1 Jedi Power Battles and BIO it is unfinished... New character Ki Adi Mundi reuses other people's animations for combos, has purple lightsaber that he should swap with Mace Windu's blue, and they cut a bunch of stuff on first level to make it less frustrating, but now computers don't destroy, glass doesn't break, and it is generally feels unpolished. Still it has graphics leaps above PlayStation and extra modes. We need a modern port on all systems, Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles will do well in modern climate where people love to stream difficult games. It needs achievements too!
Years later did I finally discover Grey DeLisle (who voiced Princess Azula in ATLA) did Padme's voice in this game. Feels odd to hear Azula crying for help in this game lol. I think she also voiced the Gungan kids in this game
@@Rschr101Considering Rey barely clears the bar for bare minimum definition of a character in the first place, every other character in every other story is by default. How a multi-billion dollar company thought it was a good idea to buy Star Wars and then make a trilogy with no writing team and no plan, I'll certainly never know.
Fun game, although I remember it being a bit glitchy. I remember fighting in Jabba's pit and the Game Over screen came up one time saying Padme had died, and I was just thinking "What the hell did she get into??" Also you can completely bypass that fight when rescuing the Hammerhead Mother's son. You just need to open the cage and make a break for it. She still gave me the reward, the son just wasn't standing there. I guess she's fine with him fending for himself.
Oh yes, now I remember those random Queen has died messages. I wonder if something is actually going down offscreen, or whether it's just a consequence of some weird code logic?
i remember playing this game when i was like 8 years old, i had no idea what star wars was.. i wasn't even into the game, i thought it was weird.. now in my 30's, im the biggest fan you could ever be..the graphics slap.
At 1:10 my internet was having issues leading to the zoomed in frame of obi-wan’s health being stuck on screen for like 3 mins and I legit thought it was a joke about how slowly he takes damage or something lolll only found out afterwards when rewinding that this pause wasn’t a part of the actual video lol
The blaster deflection was surprisingly well done in this, alot of people moan it's janky but it's because only the end half of your blade deflects, you have to move side to side timely, trust I've taken out droid tanks before
Well I think people prefer pc port or somewhat a "Nightdive studios remaster" able to play in OG or Modern remaster with optional standards or enhance changes in the menu settings, as that would be nice.
It's insane selling emulated PS1 games with basically no emu config options as a "modern remaster" instead of doing proper ports of _existing_ PC versions... Didn't KONAMI just do the same with MGS?
I love this game and have a save on every memory card right at the start of the Mos Espa level. I must have played that level at least 100 times over, challenging myself in various ways to see how much of the town I could take out while still completing the level. It's the most fun I've had in any video game.
I thought I was the only one that loved this game everyone preferred the similar star wars games on the 64. This game was so much joy and so much pain. I miss that prequel star wars hype the old and new gen both could at least enjoy or find a way to enjoy it (the phantom edit) but star wars now is just collectively hated on ahah
This game is amazing, but as a kid I never beat it. My only critiques are that they never realized how impossibly difficult it would be for kids back then. Even now having beaten it, it is overwhelmingly difficult without the rewind feature. These are the worst parts even considering constantly dying: 1) The super punishing Oto-Gunga timed platforms with the awful camera controls 2) Having to find the 2 Force-push switches while being hounded by the tank in the final part of Escape from Theed (Even after finding the switch just off screen you can't push it without being in a specific spot and even then sometimes it glitches and doesn't work; this was as far as I was able to get as a kid) 3) Realizing you have to find that tiny corner of the bar in Mos Espa Arena to get the Juri juice for watto's worker (his dialogue never even appeared for me to hint that i should get a drink) Honerable mention: following the pod racer part stealer and the obi wan platforms to fight Maul
I remember being able to kill the whales in the Gungan level. They would swim close to the glass, and I realise my lightsabre could clip through. What's incredible is that they actually have HP. When they die, I think they just freeze in place.
I loved this game as a kid. When I discovered the cheats it made it a whole new game as well. When you murder everyone in in the podracing level thermal detonators eventually just start flying out of nowhere to try to kill you but when you can't die they just murder everyone else
There's something very charming about old school PC games, they're what I consider to be "pure". They were all about giving you the best experience for your money and weren't shamelessly greedy like so many game companies today. I remember my parents buying me this game at Costco because I was so obsessed with Star Wars since I had watched and recorded the trilogy from a TNT marathon around that time and I kept watching them over and over. Time flies by too quickly. If you still have your parents, don't forget to hug them.
I loved this game when it released despite its flaws. It really was ahead of its time. I loved how you could complete the missions in various and sometimes hilarious ways. It was a glimpse of the later far far superior Knights of the Old Republic.
Have fond memories of this game. Remember stepping in poop and everyone on Tattoine commenting on it lol. As a kid didn't matter if the game was good or not, just had to be Star Wars. Great video man!
The games industry is so frustrating with how close they come to greatness but make stupid decisions such as porting the PS1 rather than PC version, adding trophies, or just generally improving other aspects of the game such as letting you play as Darth Maul.
Last Maul battle is really a pain . You have 0 medic pack for Obi so if you dont have 75 % HP before the boss you fail. Mainly because his lighting got an amazing homing . Dont forget the 2 hide medipack in the wall when you figth maul
When I first saw this announcement I didn't believe it. I immediately booted up my PS and low and behold there it was. I LOVED playing this game back in the day. I remember getting stuck on Otoh Gunga for ages. I slaughtered all the silly Gungans and got stuck when you had to press the not so obvious four buttons in that room. Such a hard but fun game. They really fleshed out the game with more than the film. Also are you playing with some invincible cheat or something? Your health is consistently low, how do you get it?
Downloaded this a few days ago. I'm 36 and had the original at launch. Want to know how much I played it? Approximately 25 years later I not only remembered the master cheat code by heart, but that SOB still works lol!
Still wish they would've ported the PC version so it looked better. I still play the PC Phantom Menace every couple years. This was my first game that required a 3D accelerator. Ah, memories...
Anyone else remember "Jedi Power Battles"? It had co-op and a handful of the Ep. Jedi to pick from. Great game that seems largely unknown now.

Haha, that’s pretty funny! 😂 What are some of the other names?
@@WewVanVic Oh my god, that's incredibly funny! Thankyou for sharing this!
Reading those name translations, I am convinced that the people who came up with those names knew what they were doing.🤣

It did happen on PS. I fondly remember being killed when I played as a child…
I recall being killed on PS, but I forget how. Does one of the performers bust out a machine gun basically?
@@PirateoftheTouYube If I remember correctly, the wookie uses his guitar to shoot at you. Not sure though.
...to be honest...
Episode 1 Racer and Racer Revenge are both on PSN as well and they have trophy support. So there you got all your racing needs met!
@@RogueDragon05 haha, to be honest I already 100% completed the PS4 version of Racer, but it's nice to know about racer revenge being there too! Thanks!
@@Hodyna Yea Super Star Wars, Jedi Starfighter, Bounty Hunter are also on PSN, Demolition too but no trophies for that one. Can't wait for the Dark Forces Remaster coming out in March. Glad your enjoying.

i still have this game on ps1, case is a bit knackered but i do remember enjoying this one alot 🤙
Every time I see this game, I think of a particular quote from Team Four Star's playthrough: "Door's open, let's go!"
Oh man I can still hear it 😂
I hope the PC version gets a digital release one day. It's a little bit of a pain to get running on a modern PC.
If yes i hope it be on Gog because steam is less trustworthy in actually make the old games work
@@rynobehnke8289 Gog use to rerelease old star wars games every May the 4th. They haven't done it in the last 2 years. Hope they go back to doing that. I would really like Phantom Menace and Battle for Naboo to get digital releases since their installers are 16-bit. 16-bit installers don't work on modern 64-bit systems so you have to do workarounds to install them.

Wow. A whole system just to play this mediocre game? You must have tons of disposable income.
@@user-vi4xy1jw7e Steam Deck blows every modern console out of the water, PS5, Xbox, Switch, can't compete with Steam Deck. I played this game on PC.
It was really quite fun back in the day, and also some quite interesting and weird cheat codes too.
I hope they've been ported along too, more people need to BEHOLD THE NECK SPIKE
I hate when ports remove cheats and stuff. It seems to be super common nowadays though. No fun allowed anymore
@@TREVORVADER All of the PS1 games that had cheats back in the day still have them on the PS5, if the PS1 game has trophy support the cheats disable the trophies
Hello fellow slig lover
Still my favorite SW game to this day. Wish Ep 2 & 3 (heck, even 4,5 & 6) got games in this style with refined controls and a manual camera, and vehicles. Out of all the games, the laser deflection in it feels the best to me.
I can't hate this game, played it for hours upon hours as a kid. Looking back it's kind of insane some of they stuff they let you get away with
There is a level in this game when you land on tatooine and you have to run around Mos Eisley and solve everyone’s problems.
I played this game many many years ago. Still have the box and cd at home. Absolute classic.
That rewind function that they have added is an absolute (literate) life saver!
I'm impressed by how deep it was, and that it had dialogue options.
Had this in ‘99! This game was way ahead of its time!
It would be so nice to have a Remaster released on all consoles.
And not tied to a stupid service like gamepass or PS plus premuim. 🙄
@coreymckee4844 You can buy it on ps5. I don't know about xbox
7:49 that is an actual SW character, species called a Chevin. One notably called Ephant Mon.
It’s still amazing you can kill literally every character and basically soft lock the game, it’s fantastic
Love this game. The Garden of Theed mission is a really fun challenge. And wheeling and dealing on Tatooine is really cool.
I hate the attitude of the headlines you showed. It's a heavily flawed game, but it did more than enough interesting things to deserve preservation. Game preservation isn't given enough respect.
One of the best SW games ever made with it's non linear, semi open world Action platformer. Wish the ep 2 and 3 games were like this.
@@KasumiRINAWell, yeah, but what we need is to give the TSLRCM for KotOR II to also become multiplatform.
og battlefront 2 on PS5 would make my year.
i dont get what Star Wars is doing with their games Xbox has both Battlefront 1 and 2, Ep1 Podracing and the Starfighter games and we get... this?
@@paralleloctagon7062 same but since I don’t have a ps5 id love a port of the game on ps4. Would make my 2024
I like how they couldn’t get Natalie Portman to voice the Queen so instead they got the woman who does Catwoman in the Arkham games. Seeing this, I keep thinking Padme isn’t falling behind but actually intentionally wandering off to loot the place before her escort notices
This is an insane game to port
And they can’t even fix the bugs? Like cmon PlayStation.. it’s an old game.
I'm not hurt! The laser blast just grazed my shoulder!
Man played the PC version back in the day. Forgot how deep the gameplay was. Definitely played that one beginning to end more than I'd like to admit 😅
one thing i loved about movie licensed games like this one is that show what you haven't seen on camera, like wandering about the federation ship or the gungan city, in the movie it cuts from entering the gungan city to being with the boss nass
Still questioning why Kotor, Kotor 2, star wars battlefront 2003 and battlefront 2 2005 are still not on the Ps5.
Same if we can get those classics back on modern consoles, that would be awesome. It’s a mystery why they haven’t been ported already
Meatbags just prefer more little Anakin action and escorting 12 year old Keira Knightley cosplaying as teenage Natalie through droids.

This is crazy!! Literally my favorite childhood game (high school) on PC. Wanted to pick up the PS1 again just to revisit this and now it's on PS5!
Gungan Murder Simulator HD!
I used to go over to my friends house, and we'd play this for hours. I never had a console, so it was my only chance to play. LOVED IT. Its still fun to this day! HAppy we got a PS5 port. Even though it would have been nice if we got a remaster instead. But regardless, happy to play this game again!
Should have done power battles instead
Another great nostalgic one
Should have done Kotor like they did on switch

@@Rschr101 obviously, for me i only hated jar jar when i was like 7, now i think he's honestly okay. but that grogu thing? yeah that can die in a fire
I remember fighting in Jabba's pit and the Game Over screen came up one time saying Padme had died, and I was just thinking "What the hell did she get into??"
Also you can completely bypass that fight when rescuing the Hammerhead Mother's son.
Port of The Clone Wars, Rogue Squadron, Force Unleashed, Battlefront ? No port of Phantom Menace...

So much nostalgia for this classic game.
i still have this game for the ps1
I absolutely loved that game growing up, played the Demo on PS1 and was lucky enough to be able to play it on PC aswell
The original devs still gave the source code on their PCs
The blaster deflection was surprisingly well done in this, alot of people moan it's janky but it's because only the end half of your blade deflects, you have to move side to side timely, trust I've taken out droid tanks before
Well I think people prefer pc port
or somewhat a "Nightdive studios remaster"
able to play in OG or Modern remaster with optional standards or enhance changes
in the menu settings,
as that would be nice.
It's insane selling emulated PS1 games with basically no emu config options as a "modern remaster" instead of doing proper ports of _existing_ PC versions... Didn't KONAMI just do the same with MGS?
You made my day. this was my first Star Wars game. I played it in school and loved it.
I really like how old Star War games are making a resurgence
Thank you for this video! I had no idea that one of my favorite ps1 games of all time was out on ps5! THANK YOU!
We need a Remake of this game.
Man I still have all the market characters voices stuck in my head. DEWBACK STEEW.
This game is amazing, but as a kid I never beat it. My only critiques are that they never realized how impossibly difficult it would be for kids back then. Even now having beaten it, it is overwhelmingly difficult without the rewind feature. These are the worst parts even considering constantly dying:
1) The super punishing Oto-Gunga timed platforms with the awful camera controls
2) Having to find the 2 Force-push switches while being hounded by the tank in the final part of Escape from Theed (Even after finding the switch just off screen you can't push it without being in a specific spot and even then sometimes it glitches and doesn't work; this was as far as I was able to get as a kid)
3) Realizing you have to find that tiny corner of the bar in Mos Espa Arena to get the Juri juice for watto's worker (his dialogue never even appeared for me to hint that i should get a drink)
Honerable mention: following the pod racer part stealer and the obi wan platforms to fight Maul
I wish they would remake star wars 3 revenge of the sith from ps 2..
yesssss
I played this game for hours as a kid. I'm glad someone else "enjoyed" the game like I did growing up.
They need to port Jedi Power Battles, and the rogue squadron games
“I WILL NOT BE TALKED TO LIKE THAT” 😂😂😂 Oh my god.. I just stumbled on this channel by accident!! Instant fan..
I had this on Windows back in the day - I wish they would have ported THAT one - it looked significantly better
It's a shame they didn't go for the PC-version as the graphics were slightly better than the Ps-1.
and PC you can customize the controls
The controls need fixing the most. Jesus Christ it’s unplayable. No camera control. It really deserved a proper remaster. ☹️
To this day I have no idea how I beat this game as a kid
