dude. I just found your youtube channel and I'm amazed! I'm learning to use a sewing machine and I'm very excited to try to make my own gear for cycling and bikepacking. Thank you so much for all the work you put into making this channel!
Good day to you! I am a grandpa rider on HONDA motorcycle from Japan. Enjoying camping ,touring and upload video. Your MYOG video is so nice! Awesome! Full supported ! Have a nice day my friend!
How could i overlook your fantastic channel for years?! Great videos, thank you!! I had a spontaneous thought (maybe it's even a challenge for you?) : the worlds litest and most minimalist backpack. What is the bare minimum? Does it even has to be a traditional pack, or is there another way, another construction for carrying many things comfy on the back? And: what would your absolute minimalist 3season gear list look like? How lite can you really go backpacking? 😁
Pardon, why the patagonia Houdini AND the patagonia Storm10? And also why the Patagonia capiline base layer AND the Patagonia thermal weight zip-neck (another base layer)? Wouldn't the Patagonia r1 be better than the second base layer? I'm really asking, bc I'm trying to decide on my mid layer for my current clothing setup. I so far use the capiline base layer shirt and a down puffy. I need something for in between these two layers Thanks!
The wind shirt is particularly nice to have above tree line in windy conditions because it reduces wind chill without overheating, unlike the rain jacket. Even though Patagonia calls the thermal weight zip-neck a base layer, I typically use it like a fleece - an active mid layer. I also have an R1 Air but I feel its way too warm for most conditions. If you are looking for lightweight mid layers I’d also look at decathlon, I think they have some nice options!
Thanks! Haven’t actually had it out in any cold temps yet, it is quite new. Lowest I’ve had it was 8C and it was warm enough. I also have the 150 and I think the rating on that was accurate, good down to 9-10
Worst thing about these poles is how they rattle. I find that it’s the top segment that makes the noise and that it goes away when it is fully extended. So I use like that, basically only extending the top part. The mod I did was to replace the handle.
Yo real talk I'm at 13lbs base weight right now. I'm only missing a good jacket(lost my 135$ marmot recently) and a Katadyn water filter. Other than that what do you think I'm 13.7lbs to be exact could lighten my sleeping bag tbh
13 lbs sounds like a pretty solid loadout! Easiest way to shed weight is of course to spend $ on the big three but other that I’d say clothes is an area where it’s very easy to overpack. Good luck
@zipworks Sorry! but three more questions if you don't mind! Why do you use a wind jacket, a rain jacket, AND an umbrella? And 2. Why do you list the weight of your shelter as 21oz when it says 12oz on their website? Is 9oz the weight of the half-inner? 3.Which inner do you use?
No problem! Yeah, carrying both an umbrella and a rain jacket is a bit much. I’m a huge fan of umbrellas - they are so easy to deploy when it starts to rain versus stopping to take your backpack off and put on a jacket. An umbrella also covers your pack and importantly doesn’t lead to overheating like a rain jacket. That said, unfortunately in really bad weather the umbrella just doesn’t cut it, hence the rain jacket too. Thats’s exactly right, 21oz includes the 9oz inner. I’m using the half inner 🏕
What a nice video, my friend! Great backpacking equipment review! Enjoyed watching, very useful info. Cheers from Russia, brother 😄, and welcome to my channel about bushcraft tips and hacks! Kind regards, Yuriy!
This was silky smooth
love the monotone scheme! 🖤

So soothing to watch!
ça fait plaisir de voir des français aussi chaud !!
I've seen dozens of these gear videos by now and I'm consistently surprised to see a pen and pad show up.
Gotta take gear notes 📝 😂
Great presentation! Clear, concise. Nice choice of music. My favourite item is the cognac container👍 Gotta bring some liquid love!
Very good selection of gear, exept some less nessesary equiment, like the umbrella, the pills, the patches, and the notebook.
Simple to understand, clean, and great choice of gear. 👍
Good day to you!

😁
Excellent setup and video.
Amazing video and nice concept. I'm obsessed with videos like this. Im sure channel will grow up. Keep going.
Thanks for doing this! And we know that you meant 9.9 lb base weight, not 9.9 oz. :)
*facepalm* :)
Sweet dream😂
Love this vid. It is literally Amazing !
How do you like the trekking poles?
Pardon, why the patagonia Houdini AND the patagonia Storm10?

@@zipworks thank you for such a well thought out reply!!!
Where is the link for the umbrella?
Cool video. I have the same quilt. I'm feeling cold at +3°, what is your experience with this quilt ?

Great video! (1:46 63g)
Thanks! That one slipped by somehow, nice catch! 👍
NIce gear buddy!!!
Do your hiking poles make rattling sound. Were you able to fix it?
Worst thing about these poles is how they rattle. I find that it’s the top segment that makes the noise and that it goes away when it is fully extended. So I use like that, basically only extending the top part. The mod I did was to replace the handle.
@@zipworks thanks for the pole tip. nicely done gear overview.
@@zipworks so you wouldn't advise them? they seem cool and really light!
@@francescoecobi I still recommend them despite the minor complaint that they can rattle a bit 👍
Great setup and nice MYOG! (Cognac is important)
Thanks 🙏 Love your HRP video 👌
Awesome gear 🥂
What modification did you do to the knife? Thanks!
I reshaped the handle to better fit my hand with a dremel. This made it lighter too #ultralight
@@zipworks awesome idea, I might give that a crack.
6.3g! that is one a light Katadyn befree ;) anyway great videos, I subbed
Cool video

Not even 5kg is very impresive in my book....
What did you do to modify the Nu25?
It’s a NU20, like the NU25 but without the red light. I replaced the strap with a lightweight elastic band that is custom fitted to my head 👍

Ahh the monochrome
you need to put some dirt on em.
Very true
why heattech?
Nice quality, good warmth-to-weight ratio in my opinion
BW 9.9 oz😅

Heavy packs are for men only I guess
This is just the base weight of the camping gear - obvioulsy I then add weight to meet the ’real man’ requirements. Machetes and what not.
@@zipworks i love this answer
I love it!! Machetes are an absolute must on the trail😆
@@zipworks lmao great answer!
