I question the Wii U Microphone. Edited by Dominic Mattero and Scott Wozniak Main Channel: @ScottTheWoz Twitter: / scottthewoz Facebook: / scottthewoz Instagram: / scottthewoz
I know way too much about Just Dance so I'm gonna clarify: Just Dance 2016 DOES support the microphone on most consoles (Wii and Wii U use their respective official microphones, Xbox uses the Kinect mic). The same applies for 2014, though I'm not sure if that one was developed with the Wii U microphone in mind; I know it at least works on the other consoles. ...And after 2017 they realized no one cared about the feature and ditched it. F.
A lot of Rock Band 4 players use these mics because they're fairly easy to find cheap and reliable. Theres a very real chance more Wii U Microphones have been used with PS4s and Xboxes than Wii Us. The "not compatible with Wii" message on the box is likely because a lot of Wii games looked for the hardware ID of the Logitech mic specifically, I know Rock Band and Guitar Hero did on Wii
Yep I have three copies of Sing Party because our Rock Band group was getting too big, so we needed to switch to doing harmonies for vocalists. It was the recommended Mic to get so bought a pair for $10 each. Small issue on the PS5 these Mic's unlike the RB official one want to be treated as a headset, rather then just a mic input, so I had to turn off some auto switching in the PS settings, but it works great. The Mic's are actually far better then the RB1 Mic... to the point that no one wanted to use the RB one anymore... so bought a third one.
I still use the WiiU microphone as the JP Switch store has a karaoke program (not a game like Singstar etc, but a recreation of the Box karaoke you can go to in Japan and you pay for anywhere from a single day to 6 months of use). There's a pretty decent English selection, though I'm a weeb who uses it to sing anime themes and 80s/90s J-pop
It's also the only 8th gen version of the game since there's no PS4 or Xbox One versions for some reason, but there's a Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii version.
Joysound mentioned, sploon brain activated. Joysound had a unique version of Calamari Inkantation played with midi instruments and would display the actual lyrics to the song. However, the lyrics were split up into a lot more words in the English release, probably because it's harder to read long words of gibberish. Either way, I can only find one video of it on youtube of someone recording their TV, and I haven't found any footage ripped from the game
If I'm not mistaken, Just Dance 2014, Just Dance 2016 and Just Dance 2018 also supports the Wii U microphone, but it's not advertised on the box. Great video!
I definitely feel like Nintendo sold the microphone separately expecting grandparents or other family members would see funny peripheral with that “Wii” word the kid keeps talking about. I have this perspective because that’s exactly what my grandfather did for me. When I was younger he bought me the wii classic controller for my birthday, and I didn’t even know what it was or what it was supposed to be used for. I just knew that it was for the wii and that it plugged into the wii remote. With hindsight I realized that he definitely had no clue what it was either, just that it said “wii” on it when he went to the store.
Something to note, I believe one more game supported the Wii U Microphone; Guitar Hero Live The game launched with only Guitar gameplay but got singing in an update.
I got this cheap and use it to play Guitar Hero Definitive Edition on my PC. It's the stupidest WiiU accessory, taking into consideration that only Guitar Hero Live released on it, no Rock Band titles, no other Karaoke gimmick games that needed a dedicated mic. 10/10.
I don't know about America, but in Europe, we had Sing Party, published in 2013 by Nintendo as a Wii U exclusivity. It was sold with a Wii U microphone.
@@ventilo334 I mean, aside from the game that came with it, no other games actually made use of any USB microphones as the main gameplay mechanic. Even in GH Live it was just an optional karaoke-like thing and didn't affect much. But it's hilarious that they still sold it separately.
This is possible evidence that the original central gimmick of the Wii U was going to be mandatory microphone use in games before they decided to replace it with the gamepad for some reason
Hmm. You mean as in, the microphone wasn't originally built in to the GamePad? Side note while I'm writing. The Wii U is 100% the best way to officially play DS games.
it's amazing how scott can complain for 10 minutes about how pointless an accessory is and ask "who is this even FOR" when he appears to have three of them
My Guitar Hero microphone for my Wii got so much use. And it's useful to have multiple for the harmonies system starting with The Beatles: Rock Band (probably my favourite or second favourite game of all time).
Wait... did the Japan exclusive Joysound game on Wii U not support the Wii U Microphone? Oh, wait... nevermind... Scott corrected me when talking about the wireless variant.
Japan loves Karaoke to a crazy extent. I understand why this exists. It is a multifunction Karaoke machine. And those are already expensive when they do nothing else.
Many microphones are not "universally compatible." I know the guitar hero microphone is ONLY compatible with guitar hero (I know because I tried using it as a computer mic and it wouldn't recognize), but then the rock band microphone is "a standard logitech usb microphone" because that's what I've been using for almost 10 years as my voice over and podcast microphone. I even have a quazi professional stand for it.
Sing Party was a hit game though! And not only that, the microphone was also compatible with the other hit, billion copies sold FSG game: Guitar Hero Live
Mr Scott Woz, you have 272 videos as of now on Scott’s Stash. If you can get 9 minutes off the Wii U microphone you can get 20 minutes out of the L button. Make the 300th video of Scott’s Stash about the L button or I will take all copies of Gex you own.
I imagine they made this just to futureproof the system for when Guitar Hero and Rock Band come along. Shame the only game from either franchise that released on Wii U was the Guitar Hero reboot that didn't have microphone support and killed the franchise.
Love your vids Scott, but ‘these USB microphones are most likely insanely cheap’ and ‘why did Nintendo release such an unnecessary microphone?” Seems to answer your question.
The Voice on wii u uses the microphone and the old Wii library had a lot of games that support it. So theres that... how do I know. We played all those games you mentioned, the voice the game and old wii games on my Wii U with the microphones. 😂
I’ll always love Scott saying how completely pointless something is and how nobody should ever own one while…. Holding the one he purchased lmao.
And then revealing he owns multiple
@@crazynaut223 "Why would anyone buy this when I could buy it instead?!"
Collectoritis is quite the debilitating disease
He even purchased the overseas wireless variant!
I always wondered how he could afford all this stuff before he was popular
If Scott keeps gradually reviewing smaller stuff, this might lead us to an official L Button video.
Smallest Accessories
I predict this will be one of his videos this year.
and after that, maybe even an L Button video!
"L Botton"
Someday my group of freedom fighters will bring back the L Button
L botton
The real reason Nintendo made the Wii U microphone was because Scott would buy it

Scott is really doing his best to keep us entertained before the Wii U vid, I have major respect for that .
I wish I went to school with scott because his presentations were probably amazing
"World War 2 was a depressing, unnecessary follow-up to one of the greatest wars of all time."
Idk I somehow doubt he was as interested in school as the Wii u microphone lol
suggesting school fosters creativity XD

Scott’s the type of guy to make a 9 minute video on a Wii U microphone
Scott's the type of guy to make a 20 minute video on a Wii Classic Controller
Disrespectful to the final 14 seconds
Scott’s ability to talk about singular objects for 10+ minutes continues to impress me.

3 in 1 day, thats more than the amount of nintendo directs in 1 year.
I think there will be more too
Is this the third Scott’s Stash video today? Truly a blessing
I can listen to Scott talk about the most mundane objects for hours, I'm discovering.
Yea, he has a really chill way with words. He’s my go to when I need something in the background at work.
Like for example the L button
6:39 ESRB has declared Just Dance 2015 to contain words; keep your seven year olds away from Just Dance 2015

It's also the only 8th gen version of the game since there's no PS4 or Xbox One versions for some reason, but there's a Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii version.

Speaking of joysound, they also had a few rhythm heaven tracks that sound like midi as well.
I had a USB microphone for Rock Band on the Wii. I still use that mic to this day
If I'm not mistaken, Just Dance 2014, Just Dance 2016 and Just Dance 2018 also supports the Wii U microphone, but it's not advertised on the box. Great video!
I love these deep dives into odd Nintendo stuff!
Not enough to go out and buy any of this stuff but I'm close!

The videos Scott uploads here, the more I realize these are ALL from the trading cards back from December
He had 50+ videos, according to his Charity Bonanza announcement video, so we haven't scratched the surface of what's coming.
I get Ashens vibes everytime I watch Scott's mini retrospectives
3 uploads in 1 day? Scott is spoiling us
Gonna be honest here, I kind of was expecting a sample of how the microphone sounds.
The video froze after he said “you can turn it on” and I genuinely thought the 3 minute pause was intentional
Shoutouts to Scott for finally figuring out how to upload hourly content.

I didn't know anyone who owned Boogie so I always assumed its microphone plugged into the Wiimote.
Scott: "it's just karaoke"
The entirety of Japan: " how... dare you"
My waking hours are haunted by the realisation that the Wii U microphone has probably been used as a murder weapon at least once.

The Beatles Rock Band is incredible, I can’t believe that Harmonix released it as their THIRD Rock Band game. Talk about going in big!!
On this episode of Nintendo is dumb for selling all these things I bought willingly.

Hyping up for the actual big Wii U video tomorrow, so fucking excited for that
The way Scott kept saying "boogie" at the start made it sound like a slur
Everybody always recommends the Wii U mic for use on other consoles for rock band because of the durability and ok sound quality.
Now THAT was a rant!
Rock Band & co. measured pitch, so you could just hum your way through every song if you had the vocal range for it.
Should have made a microphone mold that you plug your wiimote into like the guitars
