The last drive in I ever went to was right around 1993. Not only did they get rid of the window mount speaker, everyone was told to use a particular AM station for the perfect sound. It allowed all the windows to close and get fogged up even faster.

Mom would make a batch of TollHouse cookies when we went to the drive in ! My brother and I got up on the roof of the station wagon with a blanket to watch the movie.

Brings back fun memories about drive-in movie theaters. Exactly as it was with my family when I was a kid. What she said was funny AND true👏😁.

She is funny, those were the days before hi tech individuated is all from each other. I remember going to the movies and my dad would take popcorn in a brown paper grocery bag under his jacket. When microwave popcorn came out we thought that going to the movies was the coolest thing ever, then we had our own bag...

I'll take you down vintage memory lane. Growing up in the service, we had only inexpensive habits. Once a month, the dirt track races and demo derby had a military appreciation night. It was one hell of a learning curve. Accidents always happened with cars rolling and colliding. The mic voice always made it clear that helmets and seatbelts prevented injuries. Nobody stopped to think they got above 15 mph in a small space. I'm talking in the mid 1970s where the drivers let you spray paint your initials on the car that eventually "died and buried" at a local junk yard. Somebody always had a full garage bag of popcorn, a few others brought enough root beer for a sugar coma and only the adults were still vertical when the shows were over. The group of military parents kept all the kids corralled on 1 bench.

Our city lost its one remaining drive-in theater a couple of months ago. (I took pictures.)
Now the sign is gone and the screen will soon follow.
    Sad.

My HS home was in a perfect spot. Not a football field away was a drive-in screen aimed at our back yard. It was like watching a movie on today's smart phone. We got classic silent movies. The desert high winds and animals leveled it to the ground over time. A shopping center grew around it. The town historical society built a granite monument with a "courtesy" telephone pole to avoid striking it.
