They brought in other writers to finish up but it wasn't Cates vision. Same for The Hulk as he was writing that book at the same time as Thor.
Cates has some of best modern archs I’ve read, though I didn’t catch Cosmic GR. I need to upgrade from my TPBs to this “ThOmni”. Thanks for the review of a stellar run, Papa Mint! Hope that omni smells good! 😂
Same here, Never was a Thor fan but a co-worker of mine put me on to this run and i was hooked! Donny Cates writing is *Chef's Kiss* , combined with Nic Klein's amazing artwork.

Man, I got hyped up just seeing you flip through this. Love anything Galactus and Silver Surfer, and have been wanting to check out Thor. I’m gonna have to break my only Star Wars omnis rule for this lol.
NIce personal history, Gem! 💎🔨🌩📚Three great ways to start! My first realization that Donald Blake was a thing (who fights Hulk, who fights Thor in MCU, I digress) was from JMS's run! So I finally understood that reference when time came in MCU Thor! And introduced to Donny Cates via his Venom run, and now THIS! Anything related to post- War of the Realms we need to know about? Yeah, his arc burgeons over time! That group shot, I want a poster! Dude, I'm excited for this Omnibus, man! LIke one story! The blurb and art in the back makes me want to dive in right away! Somehow it's like they "remembered" how to sell Omnis! Because it feels like you can dive in headlong, no prior exact knowledge* needed! Just from the look alone! *insert MCU Ragnarok GIF of MCU Thor going, (does) it though?? (At least I'm hoping that's the case!)

Waiting for Cates to return , hopefully he bounces back. I don’t care for what Al Ewing has done with Venom, and I feel only Cates should be the one to add more substance to Knull. I loved this Thor run up until other writers took over and the new Venom stuff is like a repeat of what happened with Thor and Hulk and we’re supposed to just accept it as “what’s next” for these characters. Just my opinion, but things have gotten a little lame now and I feel we NEED Cates. Wishing him well and hope he returns with a bang.
If I didn't like Cates' Venom, Doctor Strange or Thanos (too fan fic for my taste, too many weird retcons and corny humor) - is there any chance I will like this? 😂 the art looks great and I like most Thor Ive read (even the older stuff, John Buscema's art on the Bronze Age stuff is incredible and there's some of my favorite Kirby art before that) Thanks for the overview, Gem
Everyone tries to sell Cates as the next great writer, but I’ve always felt he was overrated. Now that I have had some time away maybe I should give it a read.

I read a few issues way back with black winter story. Cates was on fire at the time. This omni looks great.

Should i read jason aarons thor before this or can i jump right into it?
You can, it will pay off starting this run. But you don’t really have to. You can piece it together while reading this run.

Cates was at a peak here and then started falling off….this was a great pick up after Jason Aaron but Aaron’s run was and is the best Thor run….
I think Cates was not able to finish his Thor run because of the car accident.
