Rats live such dangerous lives, they’re one of the sweetest, most intelligent animals, hope this lil one stays lucky and doesn’t die a bad death 🥺 my cat (before he was banned from roaming at night) once brought in a VERY young baby rat, way too young to release (no way they’d survive) so I kept him and he lived a whole 5 years, a big sweetie who’s favourite foods were blueberries, apple and kale. Absolutely no difference in personality to the many domesticated/fancy rats I’ve owned - to those unfamiliar with pet rats, they’re basically palm sized dogs, like golden retriever’s specifically.
And in case anyone is freaked out by that, I obviously had him professionally checked out for infectious diseases etc and used protective gloves until that was confirmed. Being a baby meant it actually wasn’t that much difference in getting him comfortable with being handled than the babies of domesticated/fancy rats. Regardless I think he was one of the few ‘wild’ rats to get the chance to die of old age, 5 years is a REALLY long life, even for fancy pet rats.
