For those talking about the gift shop.
I worked at a museum, and they rely pretty heavily on gift shop revenue. If they charged what they needed with the tickets, most people couldn't afford it.
And having merch with their name etc helps spread the word about the place. That's actually how I found out about this place years ago when someone had a shirt I believe it was.
Plus, little stuff helps kids remember the story through Association.
The whole point of the exhibits is to help people, piticularlly children, learn more. Learn what they felt going in the water and why it was impossible for them to live. How steep the deck was and why no one could stay on, etc. Children learn the best through hands-on experience, and some adults. Way better then just reading a plague that doesn't give you the depth of connection that seeing and feeling does. And little children can't read, but they can touch, see and feel.
It's been over 100 years. It is like any museum of history. Arguments could be made for or against any interactive exhibit or gift shop.

Jesus Christ, can you imagine a 9/11 museum where you get to experience what it would be like to jump from the tower to escape being burned to death in one of those fan rides and then it opens up to a gift shop where you get to buy miniature airplanes that hold red slime? And you get a card with a victim from 9/11 and at the end you get to see if they died or not?
Who comes up with this shit? This whole place is psychotic.
Edit: I don't have a problem with the museum. There are plenty of tragedy museums. And I don't have a problem with gift shops. But usually if you go to a gift shop for a tragedy museum, you don't see goofy toys. The 9/11 memorial doesn't have stuffed flaming planes. Tone is the issue. This museum should be less gimmicky and a little more respectful.

I hope I don’t sound disrespectful I just really like how the necklace looks. I can see why people feel some type of way about there being a shop in general because of how it looks but as long as there isn’t any disrespect to the people who experienced this, I would buy something there to always remember the Titanic and acknowledge those who did and didn’t survive. I couldn’t imagine how scared and hopeless they felt. All the children that were lost, how unbearable it would’ve been to say bye to family members not knowing if you’ll see them again. whilst i do think the gift shop is in poor taste and there are aspects of certain titanic museums that are in poor taste, the overall idea of a museum dedicated to a major event that changed the society and safety measures around ships is fine. the titanic happened over a hundred years ago at this point, it was such a massive ship, with such an interesting culture on board and that was luxury like most hasn’t experienced before. the way in which it sank and the senseless tragedy surrounding it all has interested ppl since it literally happened. a movie about it was put out only a month after the sinking. ppl have unfortunately been doing little money grabs for decades upon decades at this point. at least the bulk of the museums is meant to educate about the ship, the event and humanize the victims and overall be respectful. whereas on the flip side a literal survivor was forced to star in the movie about the titanic sinking just a month after it happened…talk about a cash grab and not being respectful…all survivors have since passed and whilst it’s important to respect the dead and respect the tragedy that took place, some of y’all need to understand that it happened over 100 years ago. some museums are a given and overall they aren’t disrespectful. again, the gift shop is another story but there’s many sombering and educational parts of the museum.
