Same here. It's because Boldy is a special lyricist and rapper, he stands out. Benny is just a decent, good rapper but doesn't have anything that stands out compared to the hundreds of them
AVAA! I had the same thoughts and comparisons about this album. Seems like around past two years Conway, Gunn and Benny are trying to prove something to the broad audience. And, imho, trying hard to satisfy anybody is never a good intention for an artist, since they care about things they used to care about less, probably. so
Two years? And then you pray for me is wsg’s only real miss, Conways still spitting he just doesn’t write his lyrics down as much as he used to and Bennys album is barley commercial. Working with hit boy doesn’t mean he’s tryna make music for everyone, there’s no club anthems on there
@@romaretaylor9953 it wasn't my point. If you watched their interviews you can tell that they planned to show that they can rap not only over underground boom bap beats, that they want to go global and attract new audience by sticking to more mainstream sound (which doesn't mean they go pop) I'm not saying they started rapping worse because of popularity. I'm sure that someone has already corrected you on this, professor. But Tana Talk 4 did the 2 producer album before it's almost dry, with darringer and alc. Pusha didn't do it first
Benny needs to stop rapping about rapping and get more personal. He has what it takes to really stretch his writing. I feel like he says the same things on every song. And now this album feels redundant. The videos and beats are awesome but we need more substance. Also, Benny over-saturated the market with his lazy every week videos that sure kept his name in the conversation but showed no signs of growth.
What every week videos? It’s called promotion, Benny hasn’t dropped no loosies or anything since tt4, I feel what your saying about the storytelling tho but I think Jermanes graduation WAS kind of introspective. He can push it in the future but I don’t think this album is awful at all

Not to sound like a hater but Benny the butcher and pusha t are like two completely different levels of crack rap… Benny is practically still a new comer to the modern scene and pusha t is arguably the Greatest crack rapper ever to exist, also this album is definitely a step down and kinda exposes Benny for getting lazy as he’s getting comfortable, if he wants to actually go down a legend he can’t get remotely comfortable for another five to ten years depending on how many great albums he’s got left in him, AVAA
Back when Tana talk 3 came out niggas was saying he does that talk as good if not better than pusha. I think pusha is wittier with his wordplay but Bennys a better picture painter with his words

We’ve been calling Budden-Core “Street Rap” since the Lox and Mobb Deep. Sometimes I feel like these analysis’ lack historical knowledge deeper than surface level listening to the genre.
I accept your criticism in general, but in specific I don’t think my point came across. I am only trying to describe rappers RIGHT NOW. So, Mobb Deep doesn’t currently exist and would never be in this genre. I’m trying to figure out how to classify the older rappers with an older fan base that still spit street raps, even though they are no longer on the streets and are no longer listened to on the streets.
I meannnnn Benny Montana existed before Benny the Butcher, and without one understanding the past work of artists I think it’s possible to miss making connections in the present. I think this major album offering, that looks, and sounds like a major label offering. Just like Conway’s first release on Shady to keep it current. It’s not meant to preform or sound like anything Tana Talk series. Which I know you made it around to this fact eventually but it’s pretty straightforward to suss out. It’s same formula any street rapper from before him has used. It’s literally the same plan with a Blueprint 2 type energy, that was very similar to the last formulaic Major he dropped. I think calling it Budden core is limiting has Budden doesn’t champion these type of rappers often nor has he reached the artistic heights of them.
Hit boy and alc > timbo and Pharrell in hip hop specifically. Better album catalogues, hits and bangers. I also consider Pharrell and neptunes different. Neptunes > pharrell.
its not a new lane, its the same old lane at a different speed. and Jay Z wouldn't fit in that lane, he, like 50 cent, has managed to put himself in a space where he maintains his relevance to Hiphop (not music, the entire culture) nomatter how much they do or dont do, & when they speak it matters to all of Hiphop because they're laying the best blueprints for success, they're the leaders as far as growing in Hiphop, & they're geniuses who don't open their mouths for nothing. Even though they are middle aged (& not like these new rappers who weren't known until their late 30s) all of the young people pay attention to them because they do want to follow & eventually be like them.

Hey Professor Skye! I’m 21 and I grew up listening to Wu-Tang. The rap renaissance that Griselda helped push/spawn has allowed me to find some of my favorite artists to date. The main members of Griselda seem to be taking a more “mainstream” approach, and I don’t love it. The narrative is that it shows “growth”, but it seems to me like the quality of rapping has taken a decline and the production that made them stand out is being replaced by bland instrumentals that convey little emotion compared to their previous work.
