This is my “Master Class” for OBS Studio. I’ve spent basically all of 2017 researching, scripting, revising, shooting, and producing this course, and I’m quite proud of what it’s become. This should be a fantastic all-in-one reference guide with the software, with just minimal updates required for new features.
This course will primarily focus on the Windows version of OBS Studio. I have some minor points that reference differences with macOS and Linux setup, but I cannot currently go in-depth with those versions at this time.
Also, this video is available in a full 4K UHD 60 frames per second format. This will give you not only the best visual quality, but the best clarity for viewing text and settings menus.

This took me forever to figure out in OBS, turns out I just needed to switch the output settings menu from Simple to Advanced mode, could not find the audio record options for the life of me. I've learned a lot from your videos and started a podcast using OBS, thanks dude!

I followed the instructions exactly but when I pull the .mp4 into audacity there is no pop up menu and both recording sources are on the same audio track. please help😫

exactly, he says "it will show up the pop up box", yet it doesn't show on his video. Not that's helpful!

after I tried installing the plugin, Audacity keeps telling me it doesn't support mp4s.

I had the same problem and I even clicked the right download. In this video,
EposVox clicked the zip download option "ffmpeg-win-2.2.2.zip", witch the site also recommends.
So I did that and extracted it. I then tried installing it but I kept getting a DOS window popping up for a second then distempering again. It wasn't installed at all.
So I deleted the zip folder and everything I extracted from it. Then went back to the download site and downloaded the "ffmpeg-win-2.2.2.exe" instead and instaled that.
Now it works as it should. Hope this helps others.

I'm SO CONFUSED as to why programs such as premiere pro and cubase don't support this though. like... surely I can just drag and drop an mp4 into one of these industry standard programs and it'd work. Jeeezz!!

for some reason the installer for FFMPEG Plugin only brings up a DOS window for like two seconds and then nothing, I have now idea what I'm doing wrong.
Try downloading the ffmpeg-win-2.2.2.exe option.

Curious if anyone knows what (if any) free or non-subscription video software correctly supports multitrack audio. The work around is nice, but I'd love to use a video editor that just works.

The one thing that is always failed to mention or not stressed enough, is that Windows Media Player can only playback track one. You will only be able to hear all the tracks once you import to an editing software (Premier), or specific software that can play all tracks at once. VLC can playback all the tracks (or so I'm told) but Windows Media Player cannot. If you are setting up multiple track recording, do not use Windows Media Player to test the recorded audio.
I was able to extract the audio as this video describes using Audacity. But I wondered if anyone knows how to setup Resolve to import a single MP4 with multiple audio tracks into the timeline like EposVox does at 2:38 of this video. You can see at this timestamp Resolve pulls in 4 Audio tracks and then he adds two more from the audacity extraction
SO I tried following this video for what I needed and its not seeming to work, so i am not sure if this is the right place. I have a video that I did on OBS and accidentally had 2 of the same audio sources on. Now it sounds double. I tried using these programs to fix it and it doesnt seem to be working. Is this the right video?
If you recorded duplicate audio to the same track, there’s no magic fix for that
My video eiditor can pick it up.
BTW. Are there any other benefits to using both apps together.
So I was doing a podcast, should I just mess with filters in OBS alone or would using audacity as well have a benefit.
What's your video editor? Premiere pro won't do it (wtf?!) and nor with cubase (a digital audio workstation)

Hi! Great tutorial, but i tried with an flv video (converting to mp4 with obs) and audacity only captures an stereo input, no multiple tracks. ¿any help? :(
FLV doesn't support multiple audio tracks, so they don't exist on the recording. The OBS UI warns you of this and I cover it in my "why choose mkv" episode in the playlist.
the plugin isn't working anymore
I've got of this down and when I import to Premiere Pro / Audacity the multiple audio tracks show...but if I want to stream I have to check all 6 audio tracks for all of my inputs (Mic, Desktop Audio, and PS4 Audio), which then puts everything into one file so I can't record properly. So I can't have it both ways...is there a way to have my stream have audio go through one audio channel, but while recording keep the separate 1, 2, and 3 audio tracks in the mp4 file?

I do have a question which I hope you have a moment to answer. I put my voice tracks into audacity, which I had to relearn from you. :) Anyhow, when I exported I had 3 wav options. @@EposVox Hello. Thank you for the response. I tried to take a screen shot but since it is on a drop down menu for the export and I have to choose it would most like require more than one screen shot. My options are
wav microsoft signed 16-bit pcm
wav microsoft 24-bit pcm,
wav microsoft 32-bit float pcm.
I don't know anything about these. If I remember correctly it used to be just a wav file. It's been almost a year since the last time I was able to work on this. I'm having to relearn too. I updated audacity through their site yesterday so I figured it added those options or something during the update. Really not sure what is going on or which to use.

I can't download the stupid ffmpeg file from the site, I keep getting a 403 HTTP error no matter the browser, antivirus being off and/or the extensions turned off. I can't find another download, either

hi sir,i am not a streamer but i would like to ask about my zoom meeting recording using my OBS. unfortunately, when i replay the video file, theres no audio coming from the laptop/zoom but instead from the mic of my earphones plugged into my laptop during the meeting. i am not speaking at that time as we are all muted the whole time. is there a way to retrieve that audio or should i let it go? that meeting was so important i didn’t take down notes most of the time because i thought the recording was okay. thanks for your reply
Neat trick that sadly works for all my video files EXCEPT the ones I get from OBS.^^ There it still asks for the library even though it's there. Any helpful ideas would be appreciated.
If i have movie with two tracks (english and Indonesian) can i use audacity to seperate the english track so when i open the video it plays in English

If you don't need Audacity for audio editing as well, you can use VirtualDub to extract audio tracks instead.
^ or VLC. There's quite a few options

Wait. This can't be THAT hard.
ElGato recording software (which is VERY limited by all accounts) has a default option of "export video file and commentary file separately". Are you saying that if we use OBS, which is supposed to be vastly superior, we need to do that whole thingamajig? OBS doesn't allow to record (AND save) in-game video/sound and mic as separate tracks/files?
Even more, what am I missing? If you record commentary, the final mp4 will have your commentary already... eh... "embedded" in it, right? So it will be ONE mp4 file with: video, game sound AND commentary. Sure, by doing this you can import commentary as separate file to edit it. But the main mp4 ALSO has the commentary?
What am I missing? :S
