Hey design champs! There is a run-down shed on my property that I am going to renovate into a tiny house over the next thirty days (hopefully). I'm going to put it on airbnb and see if we can get some guests! If you want to follow along with me on the journey i'm going to make a video about it everyday for the next 30 days! Today I finished making the outriggers for the roofing system and got ready to do the roof sheathing.

You should put a QR-Code inside the final building leading to this playlist so the guests can see how much went into their airbnb
Big brain Idea, then add "Please leave a tip" at the end of the last video
@@niallmaclennan7433 people leave tips at Airbnb?
@@YamadaDesigns Shy kids don't get sweats.
That’s be sick!!!
@@niallmaclennan7433 But do they get sweets?
Remember, comrades, if they refer to a gatorade by the flavor name and not the color, they're probably an undercover cop
Funny how I remember your profile logo 👍🏼😊
following this series is such a joy
This might be a little difficult to explain but I will do my best.
Get a long rope, tighten the G-Clamp on each board you want to put up, the clamp will act as a hook. Tie the rope around the "hook".
The other rope will now be at the other end, pull the rope down, using the whole house as a literal pulley system.
Now you might be wondering "the trusses poking out will stop the board from going up", just temporarily attach pieces of wood 90 degrees at the end, so the board won't get stuck under the truss as you raise it (if that makes sense).
BOOM.
Another approach might be to put the van closer to the building, put the boards on the van and pull them onto the house from the roof of the van.
I am checking flights to Lubbock to see how much a getaway would be to the air b&b… I am wondering how many of first year visits will be subscribers
With a house and a shed. A house and a shed. 🎶
Lol
I am still giggling about Zimri chanting "All The Walls! All The Walls!" then stopping to consider what the neighbours must think of him out there rebuilding his shed
I've never had any gatorade :( but maybe lemon would taste the best I think... good luck with the roof cuz that looks like it gonna be hard to pull up!
got surprised by the scorpion ! Good luck with the roof Zimri and be careful
ONLY other person I’ve seen who loves cucumber lime Gatorade. SOLIDARITY!
YOU ARE MY MOTIVATION!!! THANK YOU!!! 😉👍
PS: Nice music.
You're working night-shift today!!! ⚒️🌝
Mmm that switch up… Low key could’ve put the ply on the roof of the truck and dragged them up from there 😌🤘
What's the music? Share and no scorpions will be hurt

Should have probably put hurricane ties on the high side of the sloping roof rafters (BTW, I'm assuming you didn't add ties). Each tie should connect framing joints all the way to the floor plates (Side note: some specs say that using hurricane ties every other vertical support is sufficient rather than every vertical support). The high side of the angled roof is the most likely spot where constant high winds (which are really common in Lubbock) with plus 60-130 mph strong gusts (called a derecho or sometimes called a land or inland hurricane) can cause the roof to be ripped off ... especially if the wind direction is from the direction the angled side roof is facing. Once the roof goes, the walls quickly follow. The last extremely heavy wind storm that hit Lubbock was Dec. 2021 but was moderate compared to a derecho since the bulk of the hurricane-like winds went just west of Lubbock and hit New Mexico mostly. Center pitched roofs are less susceptible to high winds since the load from wind is equally dissipated over more of the roof.
It's crazy that you can just do this on a whim in the US, here in the UK it would require all sorts of planning permission and legal clearance
It's similar here in the US. There are building code regulations, licenses, permits, and fees that are required to build. Zimri just hasn't discussed them in these videos.
Also there was already a shed there. It could very well be that in Lubbock you don't need to ask for new permits if you redo the shed partially overlapping an old structure. (Just as an example)
@@collettlitchard7690 yeah, here in Norway you could for sure not do the electricity and plumbing if you weren’t a plumber unless you want it to have zero value.
For an accessory building you don't need a permit if it's up to 200 square feet in Lubbock. Must be certain codes you have to follow though
Shhhhhh, let’s not talk about building permits and codes. 😬
ALL THE WALLS (is the roof also a wall?!)
What is the outro song
Cucumber lime indeed! Also, a shade over each door or window will block the sun just as effectively as a longer roof overhand ;) As long as you don't make them out of glass.
Plot twist we’re scorpions now
Use the roof of the van
Zimri, I see in the comments people offering to help. That would change of course, the whole concept :-). But there’s no rule to say I can’t offer Timely advice from my couch. To get the plywood to the roof we always built temp sawhorse basically just two by fours jutting out of the framing. We nailed a few temp legs on and put a cross support so our plywood would have a stop and correct angle to lean against the rafters. We would load the horses and climb up on the roof and pull the sheets up from there. Also I would suggest rather than leaving the ceiling high, joist with some 2 x 6 just slap them against your rafters on one end and set them on the wall at the other. This will give you extra space for insulation and much needed space for electrical plumbing etc. you will save on drywall and mud the extra expense you will spend on the 2 x 6. I am amazed at how well you are doing.
Back the van up to the back of the house, slip board to roof of van, then roof of house
*Tennis ball!*
I just love this series Zimri and you deserve way more credit for it!
That scorpion signoff was such a twist, I am shooketh

You can do it! Are you going to be putting another external cladding over the existing one?
Yeah, I've got some lap siding to try to hang in there : ))

POSSUM but hey, another pony wall and a parapet and an outdoor staircase and you can still have a roof deck. Leave a means of drainage onto your sloped roof, and in nice weather, your little cottazhh has twice the space. Or, if you measure the atmosphere from the deck to the edge, a million and eleven times the space.
Add a veranda around the front and one side
POSSUM!!!
As others have mentioned . . . Move the sheets to the top of the van . . . And then to the roof. Move the van closer to the building before you star though. You don't want them falling off the van if you try to move it. Nice work so far sir!
the whole video i'm itching to fade your hair proper rofl :D
This synthwave background music is vibing.

How do you know how to build a house?!?!
He helped his brother renovate like 2 houses, then he got some more experience by renovating the main house he bought
He doesn’t really. There are some potentially serious and dangerous errors being made.
You could've use the roof of the car too I guess, to serve as a mid level table to pull the things up
bon appétit
wake up babe new shed vid just dropped
