So, what a storm in a teacup this game is. The target of a massive downvote campaign, mostly by folks who seem triggered that a species in the game that looks female has always identified as being She/they, and that somehow this is *checks notes*, a direct attack on western culture or some other nonsense. If you are here to have a whine about that and act like a big baby because the meanie game designers used a pronoun, you can take yourself back to daycare like the toddler you clearly are. If you want to talk about the actual game, I'm here for that, because as a game, it's not great and definitely has a lot of things you can be critical about. It's just a pity that the conversation around the game is largely not happening at the adult level. And if this comment triggers you as well, don't reply, go have a cup of tea or coffee and ask yourself why you are getting upset at something as trivial as a pronoun. Because there are no answers to that question that say anything good about your character as a human being. For me, i'd recommend it as a solo game only. I just don't think there's enough happening here for a group. And i'd treat it like a "breach and clear" style swat/special forces puzzle game. There's also some weird decisions, like having the small map book board, and then character sheets the same size, turning the game needlessly into a table hog. Which works if you are playing it co-op, but actively impacts solo play. Squad based combat games are my jam, but this one was just a bit on the light side for me.
Once again, if you think this is a nasty comment but you think review bombing a game over pronouns is a-ok, you should really check yourself, because that is so very infantile.I'm sick of that discourse, if you want to talk about the actual game and actual real things about it. Fire away. Otherwise, you will be fired into space.
@@LuxisAlukard It isn't. The Asari literally say they are "they, she" in the first game. It's really easy to find the cutscene where Liara explains it. I was playing the Legendary edition a few months back and triggered the scene. It's not sublte and has always been part of the game. The revisionism is from folks claiming that the Asari were never treated as They/She. Either way, even if it was a revision. A mass downvoting campaign over that is so very childish. As is comparing it to a dystopia.
@@LuxisAlukard Direct quote from the game: "Liara: I am not exactly a woman lieutenant, my species only has one gender." From the Asari Codex from the game: "Asari can live for over 1,000 years, passing through three stages of life. In the Maiden stage, they wander restlessly, seeking new knowledge and experience. When the Matron stage begins, they "meld" with interesting partners to produce their offspring. This ends when they reach the Matriarch stage, where they assume the roles of leaders and councilors." We can see the constant use of "they" not "she" in fact there are several lines of side dialogue and Codex entries that reinforce that fact that Asari only really use she/her when talking to other species to make conversation simpler for that species. Liara has always been a she/they. Yet you seem interested in overwriting the lore, changing the history as we know it. And I have read too many dystopian books to think that is a good thing...
@@LuxisAlukard UA-cam doesn't like people posting links in comments these days and often your comment won't even post. But I'm not spending my time looking for videos over something so banal. I also highly doubt other people would even feel the need to post such a video because most people are adults who don't have something so silly as pronouns living rent free in their childish heads.
I find myself continuously looking forward to hearing your "woooo... best thing about this game is!" that has become iconic for me. Keep up the great work, this format is by far my preferred on YT.
I feel like a Mass Effect game should have been on a more macro scale, something like ISS Vanguard. Dealing with the council, going to the Citadel, negotiating, captaining the Normandy, roleplaying, making decisions. A tactical squad based shooter, while that certainly happens in ME, doesn’t capture the scope of the world for me. It’s a shame, as I love that series, but this is a pass for me.
I've actually been excited to get this for a bit. I love the trilogy of games and its one of my favorite sci-fi universes outside of Star Wars and Halo. Planning on picking this up this weekend as I've got a coupon at my local game store. Seems exactly up my ally, something light and silly and not overly complex or exhausting to play...and I get to add ANOTHER Tali sculpture to my ever increasing collection of Tali themed things HELP ME! Great review as always.
I'm a massive Mass Effect fan, but the game just turned out to be too light for me. I'm bored in co-op, and it's a pain to run solo (and still too light for my tastes even then) Neat dice system though, and lots of cool callbacks to the video game.
The whole damn thing just felt a little phoned in, typos and all. It's like the board game equivalent of those old Uwe Boll movies based on established video game properties.
Thank you for always having subtitles in your videos! Truly top notch! Would you happen to have any recommendation for a short, rules light game? Hope you have a nice day!
Scout is one we've been playing a lot lately. (I only do the full subtitles for the short videos sadly, the long ones its just too much work for me to do myself, because its all done manually)
I haven't tried Scout, but we have had a lot of fun with Sea Salt and Paper recently, which is also a very compact card game with great art and a fun flow to it ✌️
I ordered scout and Sea, salt and Paper in the same overseas order, only to have them cancel the Sea, salt and Paper order as it ended up being out of stock. Same friend recommended both to me
This looks very similar to mandalorian adventures (as you noted at the end). I just started mandalorian and have only done like 2 missions but to me mass effect just seems like it is more clunky for no real reason. Of the two, which one would have better mechanics? Great review as always, I love this format!
Was excited at first for this then watched a playthrough and immediately dropped it from my wishlist. Just doesn't look very engaging or thematic to me. I'm not a big sci-fi fan in generall, but I've played Mass Effect 1 (enjoyed it) and started 2 but didn't get very far before getting distracted with something else. The plan was to play all 3 but not sure that will ever happen.
@@darrenbelcher6121 That speaks to the real problem with this game. It's sloppy throughout. Arenaline Rush, Transciever, She/They instead of She/Her or She/Them, to match the He/Him presented on other characters. The errors are all stuff that stares you right in the face. The game seemed adequate (not good, but certainly a game); the production was simply not up to snuff for the cost.

Sea Salt and paper is on BGA. it's pretty fun. Prefer scout myself
The maps should have been a lot bigger and the mini's should have been half the size.
There's only a few minis, its not too bad. But the maps could have been bigger for sure

Dislike the grey plastic. Sensitivities and action, sci fi gore fest (from what I vaguely remember of the video games) does seem a bit of a mismatch.
she they? we really live in the end times lol
