- Can you bypass the pre-amp in a DAC? Is the pre-amp in the DAC as good as my pre-amp? Does it have a good volume control? Just a few questions I get regular so it was about time to answer them together with some other DAC related questions I get.
Great video. Appreciate the work you put into it. Very informative.
Geezus Hans! You are the god of audio information without fanfare. Thank you for such concise videos. ❤
Appreciate you and the work you do.
Great as allways. Subscribed.
Very nice video explaining everything lucidly. I have a DAC which is non oversampling and uses a philips chip with a tube output stage and an analog volume control with a resistor/relay ladder - the AMR DP777. Even the spdif inputs appear to use a tube. It is a superb organic sounding DAC whose volume control beats a lot of very expensive standalone preamps. There are two analog inputs too which i use extensively and have two power anps connected directly to the DAC's outputs.
Thanks Hans 👍
Thank you so much for your continued work, diligence and thoroughness. I have come to regard your insight (and dry humour) as something reliable, something to guide my way amid the clamour of noise on the topic of hi-fi. Warm regards, Paul
Another great video!
Excellent explanation Hans👏
Excellent article
Simply the best-informed HiFi channel for all things digital.
What I can say?! 🎯💯👌
Great video Hans!
My respects to you Mr Hans.
Awesome!
Hi Hans,
Well done Hans
Wow.. Like always thx sir... I didn't know analogue go straight to opamp.. kewl.. Peace!
Thanks for this video. A clear explanation to someone that isn’t an EE. I would be interested on a follow up video expanding on your thoughts around source material, for example CD and streaming, and the sampling rates of DACs. The numbers listed for the source and the DAC can be confusing. for example 44.1kHz for a CD and 192kHz for a Hi-Res stream and 384kHz/32 bit for a DAC. What do the numbers really mean in your experience? How does it affect the stereo sound you hear? In addition, how do the connections/inputs you use (RCA/XLR/TOSlink) between the source and preamp impact the sound you hear? I have a high-end system and sometimes I can tell a difference after a lot of critical listening but manufacturers advertise that higher numbers mean better sound so I’m expecting it to sound better which impacts my perception. Looking forward to your response. Thanks
謝謝!
