For The Warp is a sci-fi roguelite deckbuilder that is heavily reminiscent of both FTL and Slay the Spire. Check it out!

About this game:
A roguelike deckbuilding game in space! Explore randomly generated systems, enemies and strange encounters. Build your deck, survive and reach For The Warp gate!
Just in case people are wondering why the first Boss took so long, it is simply because NL decided to skip every enemy from the first area (or rather he was not aware that the red squares were encounters), so he of course did not add any additional cards into his deck and was fighting with only the base deck.
Speedrun strat.
Yeah I was gonna say this... he basically played Slay the Spire, and somehow ignored every combat so he went to the first boss with the default deck of basic strikes/defends XD of course it would be painful.
Classic Egg move
What a noob
Ah I was about to say this game is ridiculously slow. Now it makes perfect sense, but also you should have lost. Too easy to have beat a boss like this. Maybe because of tutorial?
His unabashed use of "pyre health" makes this video 10/10
Can't wait to see what this game's "gorge collector" will look like.
Local man goes homeless after purchasing whole steam store of roguelite deckbuilders
Taking out payday loans to buy more roguelite deckbuilders
It is form my job. Mooooooom!!!
Justified by thems sweet tax deductions
INSANE streamer wastes family savings on DECKBUILDERS.
it's called overhead sweetheart
NL: Rogue-lite deckbuilder
Steam: Stonks
this works both ways
@@nevast0016 It's the rare mutual stonks.
Fun to watch wouldn’t mind seeing more!
*gains 5 energy* NL: I am going to use 3 energy and discard *Dies* NL: there was nothing I could do dood
To be fair it wouldn't have saved him regardless.
Rolf Soldaat he did it more than once
@@rolfsoldaat It actually does save him I think! if the ten percent adds 1 damage minimum to his attacks, which I think it does
That moment when NL nails reading the Roman numerals, but self-doubt creeps in
oof I felt that
Did he just say FTL meets Slay The Spire... I don't even need to watch just take my money and give me this game :O
Seems like a slugfest tbh.
@@TheNemkris tbf im blaming half of that on NL
@@VertFirstQuestion It was all NL's blame, actually. He chose to skip over every encounter, all of which would have given him cards lol
@@budspudsy436 I was watching him just click past them like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NL THE FIRST ENCOUNTER IS THE EASIEST NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
4:48 Frankly I like the idea of a giant Northernlion head with a spaceship attached, flying around, shouting memes, spreading the Canadian accent across the globe. Good times man.
Absolutely POGGED out of my mind watching NL play this, hopefully he does more episodes
This man can't keep getting away with it... consistently putting out pogged NL tries one after the other. The dinosaurs would be losing their shit over this
narrator voice: he can keep getting away with it
I got my hands on a really jank Alpha of this game a while back, and even that was pogged as heck. If you had a free time slot, I'd ask for a series.
You’ve gotta stop showing us all these pogged-up games. I’m financially destitute here.
Just "borrow" it and pay later...
@@phuuc8075 Yarrrr!
I did the math there at the end and right berfore the last turn, NL you discarded your hand! I think that strike you didn't use would have been enough to kill the boss. He was at 64, so -33, -8, -8, -8, -6, -6 is just enough to kill! I enjoyed the video a lot, but the ending had me malding just a slight bit. I liked this one a lot regardless, great video!
does NL wipe his memory banks on how to manage a hand with discard effects every time he boots up a new roguelike?
I know, it physically hurt Everytime he used last resort even tho he had the energy to heal as well... Welp that's first looks I gues
I've pointed this out before, but he's one of a certain brain type that can't easily make connections between the same mechanic working in two different contexts. He needs to build from the ground up in the new context. This is also why he can do something fine but the moment a second mechanic is thrown in that changes the way the first one interacts, he'll keep doing the same mistake over and over trying to figure out why it stopped working. One of my friends is very similar in the way they think.
there seems to be no discard pile, correct? so every hand always has the same chance to give you the one strong card u need? (while not inflating the deck)
Thats actually great because it makes tutor cards way more valuable for synergy
nah, draw pile in the left bottom corner, dicard pile in the top right
@@borisabramkin9025 Nope, there is no discard pile in this game
@@Foyfluff correct, the card pile in the top right doesn't grow larger or smaller as you cycle cards. I wonder whether perhaps it's the enemy's deck? Did I miss something in the video where it's explained?
Just the kind of game I was looking for. Hope it's good.
Would love to see a series on this game please!
"Taking off a little pyre health." Oh no, he's probably dreaming about Monster Train now
I heard that reference to "Shoes" from 2006!
Would watch happily watch a series of you playing this game
>2 flashing dots on the map
NL: naaah must be nothing lemme just go to next floor
Just as expected from the guy who played 60000 hours of isaac
I really don't know how Egg can play so many deckbuilders and still end turns with unspent energy and useful cards, or play cards that discard some/all of his hand when he could play other cards first. Well, the distraction of chatting, I suppose, but I am surprised this hasn't become muscle memory yet.
I see Egg still loves living on the edge...having 5 energy and a heal+shield card in hand that costs 1 but instead instantly plays last resort sacrificing his whole hand and wasting 2 energy ;-;
13:50 Am I dumb or did scrapping a card say $22 but only cost him $2 ? I'm assuming alpha bug.
I like that this felt more like a first episode of a series than a Northernlion Tries, with the way NL is talking through his strategy
I really hope you give this a shot this is super cool nl.
Can I just say how frickin' sweet it is to be a complete sucker for deckbuilders AND follow NL's channel? Sure, it can get hella expensive, but ... this game got bought!
Look man, I'm sitting here trying to get good at Monster Train and then you show me this? I can only play so many rougelite deck builders.
11:26 "should've learned to read". Careful, NL is learning from his mistakes
15:10 Nvm, he didn't learn a thing, false alarm.
For those who wondered. Nl could have won by playing Plasma burst before last report as it discard your hand and NL thought that he only have 3 "energy" but he actually have 5 due to the boost up.
Man, would love more of this
The art style of this game is sick
Don't particularly like the idea that you just get 5 random cards from your deck each turn rather than cycling through (At least that looks like how it worked) but seems a pretty cool game!
This game looks fun, I'd watch a series
I hope to see more of this!
Ok so he missed 2 plasma shots on the last boss because of discards when he didn't need to. I would have liked to see that run go further
All hail Egg and his magical roguelite-deckbuilder-detection abilities!
I would love to see a short series on this game
NL you can't just say FTL meets StS. Our brains can't handle that level of pog
This would be great as a short series
"I do wish the battles were a little bit faster." It was only so slow because he was skipping every enemy encounter inadvertently.
This looks really cool. Both in regards to gameplay and design.
"A Standard Frig it"
D:
Love FTL and just bought this game now on Steam, thanks for the Vid :)
Slay the Spire & FTL: You can copy but don't make it obvious.
FTW: Say no more fam.
It's a roguelite
It's a deckbuilder
It's a guaranteeeeed Northernlion Tries babyy
18:36 Swapped them. C is 100, L is 50. I know these two cuz of a Trivia Bowl question from 1988...
“Let’s get some fuel” I wonder how many got that reference!
Those boss fights were hyped up!
Cut myself into pieces!
I'll play my Last Resort!
NL is ready for the roman numeral speed reading nationals
Looks like we got a new series, let's goooooo
This seems super cool, great vid.
FTL meets STS...and my wallet shrieks in terror.
I'm gonna have to check this out!
I have to say. Starting a game by buying cards without knowing a single game mechanic probably isn't the best introduction to the game
it only took 2 minutes into the video to wishlist this on steam lol it looks so good!!
More of this!
This is really cool!
Deckbuilder?
Time for my daily POG injection
NL I’ve spent nearly all day trying to find a clip of you killing Easy Pete .
I think I’d like to see more of this game if that’s feesable.
this is quite relaxing. maybe good game to fall asleep to :')
yup fell asleep
Now this is my jam.
If only this game was a bit more fleshed out, could be a great series.
NL we have all gathered here today to say we are concerned and we want to help. We think you have a problem with rogue-like deck builders and this is an intervention before things get to out of hand.
LOL, the game looks fun and thanks NL.
c is 100 l is 50 you were right before you doubted yourself, I know 50 rarely gets used but yeah, and m is 1k I think there's more high numbers which'll never get used in our lifetimes too.
Hey NL, love to see you playing another deck builder! I'm hoping you've seen Tainted Grail and might be checking it out?
Smells like HERESY in here!
His new camera placement is refreshing and annoying at the same time, that's the magic of the egg.
Deck is POGGED
12:40 did I just hear a Shoes reference >.>
After monster train the capitalist version of monster train that our man played not long ago, these slay the spire versions feels just, basic ... Fun none the less, but lacks some units
Series when?
I'm POGGING up for the algorithm.
Take a shot for every Pyre Health In the video
Part of me was hoping this was a 40k game that I missed. oh well.
Fun looking game.
This is interesting
POG!
Make a series pleaseeeee i miss fpl
Guess they don't teach Roman Numerals in Canadian schools then.
I live in America and they don't teach them here either. I learned because of video games. :P
Thanks NL, one more for pile
Just wanted to let you know, NL, you lost that fight because the boss had 12 health left. Two of your basic attacks do 12 damage. You discarded two of your basic attacks right before and during the last turn because you played you hand out of order LMAO
he didn't lose in the tutorial, he had to give us SOMETHING
C is 100, L is 50
First Resort FTW
isn't FTL already FTL meets slay the spire? they did take the pathing from FTL
Potential replacement for Monster Train?
L=50 C=100 M=1000
There's a simple Roman numeral lesson for you.
oh my god fuel
All your pogs are belong to me.
NL this is a cool game... just need to fight more trash encounters between bosses ;)
I had thunk C was 100 while L was 50
Wow NL knows shoes, weird
Commenting for the algo. Game was fairly pog.
Seeing how the very first battle took him down to half health, I'd guess that buying a "heal 1hp per turn" thing in the store is game-breakingly powerful in this game?
(also, hilarious that the game gives him a starting deck flooded with shield+5 cards when he can only have 10 total)
No he didn’t enter a single fight
He skipped all of the combat amd went straight for the boss.
This looks neat, but I feel like any game comparing itself to FTL is bound to look worse than it is. That game is just such pure goodness.
What's a Pan Human? I'm just imagining a legion of chef's waiting for you! xD
Having the cards not function like a deck seems terrible. No discard pile literally means you can just get 5 shields up every turn in a likely lottery each turn. Haven't seen how often you can cull cards as you do in these deckbuilder roguelikes, but this system you can literally buy a card and never see and use it since the random nature.
