@@jackpinebearcat1845 How thick of Piano hinge did you use ? Not sure how heavy duty the hinges need to be for the fold down beds. Great design. Thanks in advance.
The hinges are the thin gauge/standard ones from Home Depot. When the beds are folded down the hinges do not support any weight so do not have to be heavy duty. All weight is transmitted through the wood frame directly to the floor. When folded up they support some weight but not much.
Nice and simple build. You do lose some storage area below by totally covering the bottom section. You could have cubbies in there to store your tie down straps and other items.
Thanks. We haven't pursued "maximum storage". Figured we'd add storage as we need it but really haven't yet. We can spend 2 weeks on the road pretty comfortably.
The middle piece stacks on top of one of the sides when it is flipped up. We bought the foam pieces from thefoamfactory.com, buckles and straps from local sporting goods store, the canvas fabric from Amazon, zippers and basting tape from sailright.com. Sailright.com has a really good tutorial on making the cushion covers. We were able to make decent zippered covers, but there was a little bit of trial and error.
I did add a brace, basically a board with a notch in each end that locks the two legs together when they are down. I don't think it is really needed though. We slide totes underneath the bed and I thought maybe we'd knock a leg loose without it.
The bed is 55” x 82”. We ordered the cushions precut to size, in 3 pieces. Since they were custom cushions we could make any size we wanted and made the bed the full width of the trailer.
I just used regular construction screws into the plywood wall. The screws going into the wall are not load bearing, the weight goes down to the floor through the bed itself. The screws just hold it in place.
New Subscriber, getting ready to DIY a cargo trailer into a toy Hauler. This is the best fold up bed conversion on you tube. Great job !
High praise! Thanks, good luck with your build.

Nice. I was planning on using a futon in my 6 x 12 but I like your idea a lot better I do believe.
The KISS method 👍
I like how you recess the support stand
Agreed. The less complicated the better.

You’re bed is very similar to the bunk beds I made recently! Great minds think alike!!
They definitely are a good use of space.
Built one very similar thanks for education. Mine is heavy. Any thoughts on strutts?

Where do you store the middle piece of board ?Could you list where you bought the foam and bed materials please? Nice set up !

Do the fold down legs have a brace holding them in place ? or do they not need one. great job!

What are the dimensions of the frame when assembled? Looks great!
Oh, and did you cut the foam yourselves, or have it cut by foam factory?

Hi new subscriber to your Chanel!!! I’m desperate for your bed plans!!!
I don't have plans, I kind of made it up as I went. I could maybe put together a couple of sketches in a video if that helps...
What kind of screws do you use and where do you screw them to?
